Well, that was fun. Coming home ... cold, dark and windy as fuck (for those not living in Welly and therefore not knowing the shite day we've had) ... coming up to the airport and it's time to go a bit faster. So I twist me wrist a bit, expecting the trumpet to make a pleasant noise and launch me down the road in the old "god's lacrosse stick" fashion and something entirely unexpected happened.
The engine went, kinda "wwwwwHIMMMM!!!" and the rear wheel decided to try and join me by my right shoulder. Not good. The throttle came off, wheel reattached, and of course swung over to the other side. Thoughts were: "Good, I didn't high side" followed by "oh, hang on" as we enter a potential tank slap, horrible positive feedback loop everything goes to custard situation for a couple of bike lengths and I begin to think I might be meeting the tarmac after all.
Two or three wiggles later and it's all over. I'm upright and going in a straight line. No idea what I did or didn't do, but it was obviously right. Thirty seconds down the road and the adrenaline is finally getting its act together and making the remainder of my ride home even more difficult than it would have been anyway.
A sphincter loosening moment, but at least I'm still alive. Oh, and respect to Triumph's suspension which was obviously involved in not smearing me across one of Wellington's more dangerous pieces of tarmac although I'm starting to suspect my rear tyre is teh fucked.
Perhaps I'll take it just a bit more delicately from now on, eh?

... but for once we had a nice Sunday yesterday. On Friday I thought this crap was going to hit Sunday so we had a reprieve until we went back to work. I still take it easy and take the train.

Yep scary moments alright. Throttle and wet surfaces don't match too well.
I'm sure those Pilot Powers did all they could. They are an awesome wet weather tyre for a sport tyre. I'd say a lesson that's been well learnt.
Take it easy out there, I'd pity anybody riding in tonights weather.

THere's a couple of posts tonight about riding in this 'weather'. I don't give a flying f*ck who calls me a pussy or what but I aint gonna ride in the shit that we've had today! Especially after picking the second (bi)cyclist this evening. One got hit outside work on friday morning (broken leg & abrasions) and another tonight headed in the other direction (he seemed not too bad). I'd hate to get scraped up off the road...

I don't know shit about tyres, but they seem alright to me. However the rear at least looks to have had a 'spirited' life prior to my grandmother-esque cornering. Problem is, of course, that when I get a replacement I'm going to have chicken strips for Africa.
Oh well.
But, yes, lesson learned. Bloody glad I didn't do it while cornering or we'd be having a very different conversation....

"Loosening"???? I would of expected it to be a tightening moment! Finding your sphincter high and tight enough to locate it under your ribcage might be a phrase to consider for next time...?:nya:
Glad you made it nice and safe!

Glad to hear you're upright and picking out ASCII on the old keyboard then your teeth out of the tarmac! Sounds like a pretty hair-raising experience - especially with the weather you're getting at the moment ( I used to be a Wellingtonian, lived on Courtney Pl. and Grandma was in the Hutt ).
Nuffink like a bit of adrenaline to get your blood pumping huh?

Yep was real wet, I got soaked working, even my lab didnt want to get out of the cab of my truck. Took the bike for a quick spin (well the back did a bit of spinning) and then dried out infront of the fire.
You wouldnt want to bet money on the forecast guys!

And yet it was deceptively nice this morning. Someone's got a bit of a sick sense of humour!
Rode home in the wind as well. It was "interesting"...patted myself on the back for getting home to Eastbourne in one piece!

was windy up here last night....blowing and raining. as it closer to end of my shift, i seriously thought about leaving her, but then she woulda been at the mercy of the weather and whoever was walking around. got home no worries....wind was behind me which was good...blow riding into it! and everyone kept their following distances too....had at least 7 car lengths between me and the car in front, and about that between me and the car following, which was great.
today, its lovely and sunny but cold and as anything...be interesting to see what tonight brings.
