View Full Version : A question about cans/mufflers again - Anywhere with recordings?

I need a new can/muffler for the CBR600 and I'm having trouble finding information/audio on what all the different models/makes sound like!

I know this question has been asked before but I've not had any luck finding useful info about this on the forum.

What I'd like is to find a few more websites with recorded sounds of the different models available.

Scorpian have quite a good little setup but they don't have the 600 F2

Sure I can describe what I'm after, but I'll never know what it's really like until it's actually on the bike... by then it's too late if i don't like it.

Any suggestions please?

Just get a pipe that delivers a good power increase and is not an all out race pipe. You'll get used to the sound, or get earplugs ;)

This is very true :) Something that isn't loud over the entire rev range is all good. I'd rather the neighbours not dislike me as a result of idling the bike for a minute at 6am :p

You may have to move otherwise ;)

I've got a Micron Alpha on my Z750. It's really quiet at idle, not much louder than stock. It screams at higher RPM.

Ive got a neptune pipe on my 87 cbr600 and it sounds really cool without being too loud... Came with the bike but my 87 cbr now sounds better than my mates 2001 cbr 600... Pity about the rest of the bike that i have though... Stupid piece of shite. Hanging out to upgrade (maybe at the end of the year) Oh yeah and Neptune also has a website... http://www.neptunemufflers.co.nz/gallery.htm

There are a few good suggestions here... Does anyone have audio recordings?

GR81, you'll have to wait till the bike is out of the shop to measure things up, but not a problem otherwise. :)

Is there an NZ shop site with pictures and pricings for these mufflers?

EDIT: apparently Neptune don't do exhausts for the F2's any more. :(

Dude, you're a legend... perfect. Where can I get one, and how much do they cost, are the next questions :p

Son of a bitch! :crybaby:

Arrow no longer make a muffler for the CBR600F2. They make one for the F3 but that's it... and Eurobike don't think they're compatible fittings as it would have listed the same model muffler for both the F2 & F3 if that were the case. They were bloody helpful on the phone...

Scorpian make one, and it's possible to get one in with an 8-14 week lead time... but after hearing the Arrow... GR81!!! I'll swap you my pack rack for your muffler?!

Who would have an old Arrow system around these days???

ya dreamin! hehe ;)

i cant see why you couldnt get an F3 can and get someone to make up a fitting to use on the F2

Okay, the good buggers at Cycletreads are looking in to it for me.

The Scorpian muffler (HA52) fits F2-F3. The Arrow muffler fits 1999-2000. Isn't the F3 covered by that 99-00 range? If so, then the Arrow muffler might fit the earlier bike...

GR81, is the muffler a slip-on or a bolt-on? I never paid much attention to my one.

EDIT: I'm guessing it could cost quite a bit to get the thing modded...

This is a link to a number of sound tests that were recorded on an '04 R6, it may be of some use. (http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_0410_pipe_clips/)
