Fukin cereal boy is "against" the titty parade which his council have given a permit for.

Why?

Becaue it's promoting a, legal, industry that he doesn't feel is appropriate. What a load of self serving wank!

How can you deny one industry a permit because of personal opinion? Isn't that an abuse of power?

Well as I've said before, that's the only reason that local governments are there: so that they can put their fucking nose in everything, bark really loud and feel all important about themselves...

I saw him (Hubbard) on the news. What a fucken idiot!! I had some respect for him prior to this (not having to live in Auckland) but what little I had is gone now. I don't care who is parading for what reason. The council's of this country need to understand that they are not in the beehive. They are there to serve their local communities. To do this they have set of bylaws. If their representitives operate, as in this case, by those rules then the council hasn't got a leg to stand on. It's no wonder that Auckland can't seem to get it's shit together.
Total hypocracy!

Ummmm...I thought his objection was about allowing the main street of Auckland to be closed for the promotion of a commercial venture? That seems a reasonable concern to me.

Are you people suggesting that he has a ulterior agenda?
Whatever could it be?

Lou Girardin

He's your typical prig who's risen beyond his level of competence. But if he's bad, the people who voted for him are worse.
He's even a ridiculous thing to look at, he's got a mouth like a cats arse. A sure sign of lack of humour.

Compare the attitude of the council toward this parade (which I personally think is a bit tacky and juvenile), with it's predecessors attitude to the Hero Parade (which I personally think was very tacky and very juvenile).

You may be right to some extent idb but the message I got from Dick's diatribe was that he was opposed to it because it was promoting the porn industry, not because it was promoting commerce.

They closed the bridge for the Hikoi/Maoris no questions asked basically, and to what cost to us?

All these people want is a little police presence to stop people harassing them and being run over.

OK - I'm starting a business... want to have a parade to promote it, and would appreciate the council closing off Queen Street for me to do it...

I understand Dick Hubbard has morals that differ to mine. I'll respect his, and I expect he'll respect mine... but closing the street off for the commercial gain of an individual or oragnisation is a bit much isn't it?

Stupid bloody councils don't even live there and think they blow arse.
One up here is just as fucking bad - they ask for submissions on a new plan and then announce that they are gonna go ahead with the idea before submissions have even closed!!!!

Well said. If it were a one off maybe it'd be a differnt story, But every year? Missing out on one day of retail is a big deal with rent prices etc.

But hang on, won't there be MORE customers on queen street on the day of the parade?

Are they closing Queen st though?!?!

Where did this come from?

From what the guy said on the news and what has happened in the past years they do a drive by, affecting each part of Q st for very little time.

Will there be naked chicks involved?

The fact of the matter is that they have followed proper procedure and little Dick is getting uppity cos it's promoting porn.

If you were to apply to the council and be granted permission to have a parade to promote your business then do you think Dick would do dick? unless there were titties involved?

the commercial promotion thing has its merits, hubbard isn't going to oppose the parade legislatively, but he comes across as such an idiot. like chris carter with morals.

a parallel could be drawn with the home show having a parade of transporter trucks with prefabs on the back - would it happen? probably not. if it did would people go and watch? probably not. will people go and watch girls get their tits out? duuh.....

I have a democratic right to watch Titties on Parade, any full blooded male that is not behind me is queer, or a politician or both......

If Hubbard wants to make a personal appeal, how about he stand in front of the parade with a placard or something, he has a right to protest, also has the right to have the shit kicked out of him too!

I use to respect Dick Hubbard, however after seeing that little performance on the news his first name is very fitting. With people like him in Council I can fully understand why so many popular events are red taped (Speedway) or rejected facelessly (V8's).

I expect I'd have to go through all manner of getting permissions/permits etc based on the inconvenience it causes to traffic flows.

Yes - there will be more people on Queen St, and that in turn will have some spin off business for some, and restrict business for others. Why shoudl those "others" be disadvantged?

Why can't the parade be somewhere like the domain where a lot of people can get better viewing... surely it's a more appropriate facility all round.

And yes Dover - imy imaginary business has plenty of titties on show... some are even in action...! (again - that's for the imagination to play with)

It's culture thing guys. Some cultures the woman walk aroung topless in their society.

In our culture they don't. The woman cover up. So in that context all Hubbard is doing is upholding our culture values.

Personally I can understand his position.
Some folks firmly believe that if their teenage boy will ever see a glimpse of naked skin, he'll die from overmasturbation (and some certainly will). Some folks believe that if their flat-chested teenage daughters will see half-naked models, they will die of pure envy (quite understandable).

I happen to work for an international company. In every branch there is a tradition - once a year company sponsored picnic for the employees and their families. Except NZ branch that is. One of our folks vetoed the tradition because he is afraid that his kids will see grown up dudes drinking beer. I kid you not. Some people can be really upset if their kids will see something they deem wrong. And personally, there are things (http://www.bushywood.com/gossip_images/gay_parade.jpg) that I'd prefer to keep my kids' eyes away from.

Having said that I would like to say that I join the opposition to the parade and advocate its cancellation. Why? Because due to my work schedule I won't be able to attend  Just kidding!

They didn't need a permit to do it, what they needed a permit for was to get the publicity and they sure are getting that now.

Every show needs a circus and some clowns.

Where to get the best bang for your bucks?

Why the largest local circus you can find of course! (Thinks, apply for a permit!)

Enter the Auckland City Council with it's enormous supply of readymade "clowns" and you have the perfect promotion deal you can find.

Without "Dick" and his circus this would have been a non event!

The sad thing is that Dick and his clowns really think they count for something important.

Well done, the porn man, a stroke of genius, in my book! :done: John.

Must admit seems a bit hypocritical. Didn't the Auck council give some money to the Hero Parade? So it's all right for the streets to be closed for the Hero Parade but boobs on bikes that's a no no. No wonder no one knows the difference between right and wrong anymore. Maybe Auckland needs a 'Flasher' Parade. Where better than to place an advertising slogan. McDick or Burger Dick..........your way.

Cultures can change, if enough people want topless chicks wandering around they should be allowed to!

I'm sure it has something to do with democratic process.... A concept most if not all politicians fail to grasp.

Hypothesis,

Hubbard payed for a hooker who works for the porn man. Porn man says haha blackmail: now you have to revoke the approval (that he got from some one else that shagged the hooker) so that it makes heaps of publicity for me! Then we'll ride anyway and get shitloads of people to pay to see my porn.

Muhhaaaahahahahaha.

Obviously this is an imagined scenario and I'm not suggesting it happened at all...... :innocent:

So presumably you don't mind if your mother walks around topless or your sister if you have one, or your girlfriend or wife while other men ogle, wolf whistle, and make sniggering comments about their boobs or lack of them or whatever.

Hubbards concerns as I understand, is the closure of Queen St for a commercial expo. What I find interesting is that a council officer has given 'her' permission and Hubbard wants to overturn that decision. That has nothing to do with the democratic process but due process of law.

So in that reguards you need to 'bone' up on the democratic process yourself before critisizing others for not doing so.

Skyryder
