View Full Version : Lost it? Saved it?

Some recent off-season practice from S.Korea.

This CBR1000RR rider gets a little over-enthusiastic with the throttle.

I'll post the whole sequence in due course, but have a look at the first couple of pictures:

Did he save it? Or did he throw it away?

because im optimistic im going to say he saved it

sAsLEX

From his hand position it looks like he is still on the throttle but not too much so he saves it with a big old school 500 GP style drift out of the corner......

Losses it. Just cause the other two said he would save it

i think he makes it, all he has to do gas it a little more with the steering third of the frame direction, providing he has the power to do so.

Unless hes trying to pull off another fluke, could be a bin.

Optimistically he's OK so far, so I'm saying hes home and hosed and in control. (just) :shit: John.

Some interesting conjecture here. I've seen some mighty big highsides starting like this. I've also seen some amazing saves...

The next photo in the sequence might make you change your mind ~but bear in mind... there are 2 more photos yet to come.

I saw a guy on an R1 do the freakiest thing in a parking lot:
He'd gas it up going straight, then (I think) dab the back brake hard to get the back loose, then with inside knee down slide it sideways before picking it up off the gas again. :shit:
I have no idea how he did it but it looked a bit like the GSXR pic~ :scooter:

Warr
17th August 2006, 00:12
I would have said he was going to save it till Pic #3 but not looking good now.
I would have saved it of course!!!! Would have got on the rear brake and hoped that the rear didnt come round any further.
Pic #3 says he was short of grunt or chickened out, to keep the rear spinning.
I'd have been too chicken to wind it on so only way I know to save it would be apply LOTS of rear brake

But then I dont ride something with grunt enough to spin up the rear so who knows :)

I've been thinking its a sure candidate for a lose unless some flukey trickery pokery by the rider happens.

And I have $0.05 says that it does and he gets to wipe pooh out of his un-scuffed leathers in pit lane.

After seeing that clip again I'd say the man with Yellow Leathers has used up ALL the luck the Motorcycling gods had available.
So I'm still going to say our Red Leather man has lost it.

Seems that there are a lot of optimistic KBers out there (although my comments aren't giving much away! :devil2: )

By now you're all bored of the 1000RR high-side :whocares:
So, it's time to post the aftermath...

Yes, this rider LOST IT.

I think if he'd gassed it from the start he might have spun it all the way out the corner exit, but he's obviously gotten off the throttle, tyre gripped, and bike bucked him off.

Rossi would have saved it, no doubt.

First pic looked like the front was starting to slide - thought at this point he'd lost it. Second pic the front was gripping, the back was sliding - now he's saved it. Third pic, he's off the gas, and off the bike, and its going over - lost it for sure. Fourth pic - the bikes come back and he's nearly back on it - its a nailbiter, but it's looking like a heroic save could be on the cards. Fifth pic - all over, confirmed "lost it".

Good sequence of shots, cheers for sharing that.

Was the rear spinning or did it grip?! I am guessing that your 250? would not of been powerful enough to maintain the loss of traction and regripped throwing you

next photo would an interesting one, he looks like hes about to face plant the ground. and maybe forced splits too. shame tho i thought he would save it, open right up and keep that spin going, front wheel pointing in right direction.

19th August 2006, 00:52
I've always wondered... has anyone ever got their leg stuck in the back wheel doing this? :bye:

Kyle
19th August 2006, 01:05
Ive seen a guy get his leg caught in someone elses bike, he was lucky it was only a 50cc mayhem race. pretended to kick out at a faster bike as it went past and foot got jamed between wheel and shock, old double shock bike. It worked tho, he took both bikes down for serveral laps while they unbolted the shock.

Yeah thats basically what happened, both tyres were sliding then my front griped and I was sweet then my rear suddenly griped and pulled me over but I was still full on throtle and was still grinding my peg with all my weight of the bike.

who cares if your bike is gutless it dont matter if your on half or full throttle the rear is still going to grip again, and the grinding the peg was probally not helping the rear loosing traction in the first place

Thats how I lost traction... I was grinding my peg and then the rear started to slide big time along with the front. I think I may have gone off the edge of the tyre I keep doing that but more on the hair pin and stuff and it was sweet.

ONLY way to slide that rear is by power sliding or on the rear brake.
Rossi knows how to do the former and yea lets guess he saves it BUT would have been better for Mr Red Leathers to get on the rear brake and do some quick praying. That would be my aim :)

or maybe stop grinding his peg and change his style/bike/stup so he aint dragging shit through the bends would be safer easier.

There aint any way I can get off the bike more, Vtec said my arse was a couple of mm off the ground. It just means I have to go slower...

But warr I never touched the back brake and my 250cc powersliding at 140 I cant see that being the case.

Increase your clearance by moving the pegs up and back allowing the bike to lean further without touching down...........

That seems pretty unlikely.

I think you need to hang off the bike more, if you are using up the whole tire, it would likely result in a lowside if you went off the edge of it.

I doubt you'd be able to get your bum a couple of mm off the ground.

Umm, yeah, he was the "hangiest" of all the riders that I've seen so far. He is cornering that ZXR at it's limits.

Also, you can powerslide a 250 at 140 if you are leant right over, and using all the traction for cornering, and then put 35Hp through the rear wheel, I'm pretty sure I've done it at Puke over the hill with my pegs on the ground at 150k/hr. And Texmo was definitely cornering harder than me during those races that we had at VMCC round 3.

His butt was very close to the ground. It's possible that his shoulders could be moved further over, but he might lose some control on the bike, and he's already cornering fast enough, just needs to work on lines and braking points, and maybe leave a little more room for error, as that track has quite a few holes and bumps and things that will throw you if you are right on the limit. I definitely admire his confidence though.

Have you seen the pics of him leaning?

TygerTung
23rd August 2006, 23:02
Oh yeah thats some pretty mean hangage, havn't seen those photo's before!

Dunno what you'd do about that, perhaps not go around corners so fast?

What im doing about it is getting rid of my 250 when its all fixed up which is costing me more than a couple of grand... Then im gonna get a 600. more lean angles and better tyres.

its funny how the photo makes it look so much lean. If you had a look at the front of the bike, you would see how banked the turn is, and also the 'real' lean.

The bike is on the banking leaned, but the knee and ass is on the part of the track where it has flattened ou again.

Still impressive photos!

24th August 2006, 18:36
You're a cheeky sod sometimes RG :innocent: . Yes the corner is positively cambered, but you can see how close the bike is to the ground, his knee is touching the fairings and the ground at the same time. Which means because of the camber, he must be nearly horizontal, that's how you corner fast on a positive camber corner. Props to Texmo for having the meanest ever shot on a ZXR250... I just wish I could get some of me mid corner, although it's not quite as spectacular.

Cheers for the offer bro! But moving again is a bitch! Will definetly come crash there during weekends, if cool if we go out.
