"I ain't gonna do nothing that might cost me votes"

So, if y'all don't want more speed limits and nasty shit, make a noise. Noise = lost votes to a polly.

I like the line:

"There has been an increasing level of compliance with the drink driving laws.

For example in 1997 1.7 percent of drivers were detected with alcohol levels above 80mg/100ml but this fell to 0.5 percent by 2004. So, a very few people indeed are now driving over the limit."

So to rephrase - the Govt would like a pat on the back for allowing 1 in every 200 cars to be in the hands of a drunk driver... 1 in 200???? Hells bells... I'm lucky to be alive!

More of the same. Unless people start talking about quotas again.
And don't ask us to spend money on it either, saving gay, handicapped, indigenous whales doesn't come cheap y'know.

but taking into account the population increase how many drink drivers have actually been removed from the roads?

Local bodies are going to set speed limits in their areas. The provisions in the Land Transport Act 1998 allows them to this and considering the poor voting turn out in local body elections they will be able to do wht they like. So the Government say not my fault.

Considering the state of play between the two main parties Labour is not going to upset the 'up and coming' new voters by raising the driver age. That's one that they have no lost control over.

Drink levels will come down. That's a positive.

Communmity support for lowing speed levels will be trumpeted as 'we have consulted the community and this is what they want.'

Expect heavier penalties to compensate for loss of revinue as the Government's road safety targets are achieved or close to it.

And further erosian of police confidence will be the result.

Good one Duny.

FFS - Dunny could lose 6000 votes and still get in!

Harry the Dunny sounding quite sensible????
He must have been having an off moment! This has to be the first possibility of any sensibility coming from him. Ever.
