I have just had the inside gossip on these two events.
There are BIG plans afoot people, but they will need volunteers and some support.
A meeting is being held at the top pub in Greytown on Monday 21 August at 7.30pm, to discuss the ideas and work out what will be required to make it happen.
I am hoping to go along. Place your interest here and we can car pool there from Wgtn/Hutt if you're keen.
Time to step up people. :Punk:

Bugger - gunna be outta town damit....
I'd like to help 'cos I like the idea. I'd be keener if there was a classic section / class or even a bike show or something to attract others. I'd even promote it in the Classic club...

There are plenty of classes - an old Trumpy was there last year.
This meeting will be to discuss more than just the sprints and hillclimb though..........I'm guessing there wil be something for EVERYONE if this event kicks off.

Okay - got a bit more info.
The pub is called .......The Top Pub.
The meeting is more about higher level organisational matters at this stage -
* music and loudspeakers (sound systems)
* MC to announce riders names, bikes, times form last year etc (sounds like Linda ??)
* screenprinting (entry forms and certificates)
* sponsorship and prizes
* video and photos
* probably much more which I haven't thought of
They would like to have names and details of persons willing to marshall and timekeep.
But, it looks predominantly about money and ensuring the events are well run, encouraging lots of partcipants and spectators while not running at a loss. (or too much of a loss).
Dave Anderson Motorcycles has been approached, as will several shops in the Hutt and Wgtn.
They are currently devising a checklist of issues to address but if you think you or your company can help out in any way with the above or other things ?...then please feel free to come along.

Tonight's meeting is at the Greytown Hotel, not The Top Pub.
Greytown Hotel is the last pub on the right as you leave Greytown, after the Green Man Pub.

Don't know if this is too late to be suggested but I reakon they should try and get the media there. Perhaps that boy racer show (Import X I think).
It would be great to raise the profile of motorcycling.

Righto - the meeting was very positive, and the organisers appeared very surprised and pleased at the turnout.
Welly and Wairarapa hardcore represented alright.
Poos, Rossi Gal, Pex Adams, Unlce B, Darkman, Mikey, BusaJim and partner, myself and Mrs Deano attended - usually they get about 7 people in total, so they were very impressed.
Thanks guys and gals for your time and effort in making it there.
Sorry Mikey, alas there was no free beer, but almost a free meal when I forgot to pay....
Issues discussed were MNZ criteria - such as the need for every entrant to have a 'day licence' to participate (unless you already have an MNZ licence). Unfortunately this will escalate the entry fee but it is still likely to be under $50.
Protective riding gear will be clarified with the MNZ rules, but hopefully will not be too onerous. (same as previous years by the looks)
Sponsorship by way of prizes is anticipated, and various suppliers of motorcycle equipment and others are being approached - offers are welcome. Many thanks to those who have already agreed - you know who you are :first:
A flyer has been drafted and should be out by the end of the week. This will be found at local bike shops. A new revised (and sexy...so I'm told:shutup: ) website may be in the making, with entry form and disclaimer attached.
Anyway - I don't want to steal all the organisers' thunder, so I'll leave it at that for now.
The organisers' should be logging on in here any day now and will post a full report on what is happening.
This should be bloody good !!

Maybe, maybe not. I'm not entering as I will either be marshalling or on a camera. The price has increased by almost $15 due to the need for a day licence, so that may put a few off. If there are too many entries I guess they will cap it. MIGHT PAY TO PRE ENTER BEFORE THE DAY !! Which raises another issue if it is rained off and postponed - cheers...another thing to discuss at the next meeting.

Calling all Welly riders and further afield....
The organisers are a non-profit organisation and to keep these unique Wellington events going we need to support them.
So, turn up to either watch our own Welly riders going for gold or have a go yourself and keep these events alive.
As Deano said, the organisers were very surprised at the level of support shown at the meeting.
Now we need to back that up with numbers on the day.

I don't wish to pre-empt, but looks like $43 for sub 400cc entries and $50 above 400cc. All entrants may receive a certificate with their top speed and standing 1/4 time. Plus potential for prizes...
Generally speaking, if you can afford a 600cc + bike, you can afford another $7.
AND, hopefully, the Red Bull girls will be there...

Now you're thinking...couple of years back on a KBer back we'd stopped in Carterton for lunch. As we were all getting set to get on the bikes and head off...this Red Bull mini stopped and out jumped a couple of red bull skanks, anyway...we obviously unmounted the steeds and obliged as they climbed on a couple of bikes and had photos taken!!!
How about Tui girls too, if the ad is anything to go by they'll be hot!!!

Thanks Deano for kicking this off and going to their meeting. I was in Palmytown yesterday, so it was all too much to get back to Wgtn then Greytown.
Anyways I'm doing my best to talk the event up and get people to enter.
A lunch time silly buggers session might have been a worthwhile suggestion if they want to encourage the locals to come watch.

Now lets pray to the rain/wind gods.
I'm a starter for the standing 1/4's.
Happy to Marshall at the hillclimb this year.
I'll also be the first to admit that I'm too chicken to see how fast my bike will go. I begin to freak out after 270 (Bike/nerves getting wobbly).
Don't trust my leathers will do much for me over that speed either. Will See.

Possibly will be the last week in Feb - definitely looking at other events to see it won't clash. It may coincide with the Martinborough Fair or cycle race, so everyone will have to leave early to avoid traffic, or if travelling by bike, keep it fairly sensible getting through the traffic.

Seriously man can you edit/delete that post! Too much information. It's not just the hills that have eyes around here, as they say. No need to shit in our own sandpit. And some may find that even irresponsible. If I take part in the sprints, as an act of social responsibull-ness I intend to limit my speed to the government recommended 100kph. Just for once it wouldn't hurt the rest of you to try it. :done:

Fair enuff, reference to speed removed. I'll leave the other info as there will always be people who will explore their bikes capabilities. If they feel they must, they might as well do it in a safe (relatively) place and it is the safest place I know of.
If there is a tax agent at the end of the straight and they do not see them, thats the risk they take.
If the tax agent has time to sit there all day on the off chance that is! I've not been there for at least 10 years and I know things change, but I never ever saw tax agents on that road ever or anywhere else of state highway 2 in the rapa. It's not like they don't know what goes on, on the back roads, they are not silly.
For the record straight line speed bores me. But I do need to practice those starts, hence I'll prob be at the sprints.
I've read your post like 5 times now and for all the world it looks like your saying you will be going 100 kph at the sprints. I hope your joking, you will be eating into other peoples run times doing that
MD
23rd August 2006, 21:14
No Sugilite it's the reference to the holyland of speed location that worries me, not the reference to speeding.
Good point though. I can build in the allowable tolerance of 11kph to my 100kph runs. Might still better a few peoples times  :woohoo: :chase:   :blip: :doobey: :slap: (don't you just love these little guys)
