At last, finally, the entire world, nay the universe, may just be about to recognize KB's Ixion and immortalize one of our own by awarding him the status of 'planet' (as oppossed to being considered a cold old rock (with an 'r')) .

So now we'll have ten planets to our little system?

Wonder how they will re-write that, My Very Excelent Mother Just Baked Nine Pizzas memory device...

My Mnemonic was "Mrs Vujcic Enjoys Mutilating Junior Students Using Naughty Practices."

We could make that work if we went with "Ixion": "Mrs Vujcic Enjoys Mutilating Junior Students Using Naughty Practices Indecently."

I'm sure our esteemed Mr Ixion would not object to being the "Indecently" part of the mnemonic...

Interesting wee story there....!

This was the thing that stood out for me the most..."He is significant in many respects, but is chiefly known as the first human to shed kindred blood"

:shit:

Doesn't relate to motorcycling and let's hope not to our own Ixion either! However......"Because this was a crime new to the human race, nobody could purify Ixion and he wandered an exile"......hmmmm:sherlock:

Ah, the everlasting soap-opera of the Greek Dieties. They were always up to something - that Zeus, eh? What was he thinking, bringing a red-blooded human into the presence of Hera? Inventive in punishments, tho'...

No doubt planet Ixion will crash into something and blow it up. As the moon is made of cheese Ix will be C4.

Arrrggghh. Don't remind me of that bloody cloud . Though the nom-de-web is chiefly a humble genuflection in honour of my reverend and illustrious namesake The Rev Canon Basil Davis, whose nom-de-plume I have pinched with as little justifcation as I have ability to meet the standards he set.

Does no-one remember the original Ixion, whose erudition, scholarship, and Christian bonhomie were exceeded only by his love of motorcycles. That is he, and his Norton in my avatar picture.

You've gotta be kidding! The mnemonic is going to rival the "Wreck of the Hesperus" in length - I certainly hope they make it rhyme so I can gave a go at remembering it.

Perhaps put it to music with a catchy tune so that everyone can memorise it (and then, you've still got to remember which planet corresponds to which letter...)

**Chortle**

That tune gets old really fast with just "Twinkle Twinkle", "Baa, Baa Black Sheep", the alphabet and Mozart's variations on it without a 61-planet mnemonic as well.

I think he would be flattered and amused Sir! Your posts are worthy and it is indeed sad that the current generation are not aware of the great man and his contribution. Think you love motorcycles? Research this man who did it not for the glory but for the love...
