My olds just got back from a day out at Paeroa, bringing with them some not so good news :( They got passed by a group of bikers up the miranda coast road and not too much further on saw the last guy and his bike spiral into the air. Afaik he was riding with three others, one a service manager at Holeshot. Seems the guy just failed to take a bend and went straight ahead, off the road and into a farm fence. Tore the fence out of the ground, threw the poor chap off and dropped him a ten metres into the paddock. Ambulence was called and he was carted off to hospital. From their diagnosis it may be just a couple of broken ribs, but still a reminder for all you out there to STAY ATTENTIVE... Take care out there :ride:

Sounds like it could have been shawn's crash. See the 250's ride here (http://kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=3236&page=5&pp=15) for further info.

Sound like he's ok though, thankfully. Must of spun your folks right out though seeing as their son's ride.

Nah... I wouldnt have thought so. Just made them a bit reflective more than anything - the guy seemed like he just forgot to turn:Oops: and kept riding straight ahead off the edge of the road - something that happens if you aint alert unfortunately. What with them both having ridden bikes together for nigh on 30 years, and me dad for maybe 45, I think they are fully aware of the risks that come with the territory. If they aren't, they certainly dont show it.

On the other hand, on a few occasions I have 'missed' the road. One was where an exterior spotlight at the back of a service station tricked me into thinking that there was an oncoming car/motorbike down the road, although when I got closer I realised that there was no road, the road veered sharply to the left, and I still can't remember how I managed to get around it.

A long time ago, two other guys and myself were touring around the south island, the three of us were somewhere around Invercargill looking for someone aunty. We decided to head back to the main road because we couldn't find the backroad that we were supposed to be looking for. Heading back to the main road (SH1) we didn't see the stop sign (convieniently covered by a bush) and what we thought was the continuation of the road in the distance was some farmers track. We came over a slight rise in the road to find SH1 very close, and us all doing 110 - 130k. The three of us with our brakes locked up gliding across NZ's main highway must have been some sight. There weren't any cars on the road but the three of us stood a much greater chance of hitting each other.
