Thought I'd better get used to the Kiwi biker scene before i arrive. moving from the UK in december and bringing my sv1000 with me. Can any of you guys advise me if i am going to have trouble with my very cool and loud remus cans. Whats the score with black (very dark) or mirrored visors on helmets? spent a few months in NZ so far and can't wait to get on the open road.:yes:

Welcome and come on over! Sorry, can't really help with either question, but there are those on here, (cops), who no doubt will enlighten you. Their becoming more concerned about noisy vehicles here now,so I would probably ease the throttle in built up areas.

Visors seem to be free as to what tints you have, though.

I believe there is actually a law regarding the use of tinted visors at night, I know one of the CHCH crew got caught out...but during the day its fine.

Gudday Miles! Glad to have you on board in kiwiland and riding too! Yeah, the tinted visor is a no-go at night but apart from that no restriction on tints. As for the loud cans, I know nothing!

got an sv 1000 with scorpion race cans on not had a problem mot wise as yet but there are restrictions coming apparently,a way around the noise issue is to get some silencer baffles that fit into the ends of your pipes for mot time,tinted visors are ok except for night tome when you probably wouldn't be using one anyway,good luck on the move ,you will love riding your bike here re-lack of traffic and less speed cams than UK,where are you moving too?

It's open territory over here, after-market pipes and darken visors. You'll have the lasses drooling over the remus sound. You will have to make an appearence on one of our ATNR (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=33348) nights, good way to introduce yourself and meet fellow KBers.

You shouldn't have a problem with the visor issue. Common sense applies, but there has been mention of cops out from the donut shop and wanting to get their "quota" up by being creative with rules. Search old posts, it happened in Christchurch IIRC.
I'm guessing your bike will be fine, but we have the same problems with boy racers with baked bean cans welded to their exhaust pipes to make a 1200cc cage sound like a V8...
If you are moving to Browns Bay, that is a nice pleasant spot!

You're gonna love it over here - it's like riding in Scotland without the constant rain - open twisty roads, very few cars (especially if you get to the South Island) and compared to the UK the cops really don't stop you for anything - kiwis think it's bad but then most of them haven't spent much time on the UK roads.

Hope you don't like motorways coz they've only got about 150km of motorway in the whole country.

As far as V Twins are concerned I think there may be a law against keeping 'em quiet. They're supposed to sound loud.

lol i think those baked bean cans are called cobys, and i seen that they also cut off the exhuast which make the cars farken loud as, oh yeah welcome to the site miles hope you enjoy here on kb and nz:yes:
