hey guys,
good turn out for the "small" bikes even though the few of us on 250's and two smoke on the 150 were out numbered. Im thinking 27th of June (week before BBQ). Also might be a good idea, someone mentioned splitting into groups of different rider ability. Tell me if your interested (please dont hijack the thread, keep it easy for me ffs) and i'll post more info at a later date.
SO
WHOS KEEN?
Might aswell tell me bike size, and your experience (be honest now) just to help with organising.

I had a great ride on Sunday. At first I felt a bit guilty about gatecrashing a small bike ride but then I rationalized it by telling myself that my 400 is really a lot closer to a 250 than to a 600, and it still turned out to be one of the smaller bikes there! And despite what was originally planned, actual speeds also turned out to be a bit higher than perhaps some people might have been comfortable with. I still feel that there is a need for a "small bike ride" to cater more specifically for less experienced riders, and those who would like to admire the scenery for a change, but I don't want to exclude others, so I would support the suggestion of splitting into groups. Better still would be to plan a route that has the whole group riding together at moderate (i.e. legal) speeds for part of the way, then splitting into faster and slower sub-groups, perhaps with the faster group taking a longer road, then meeting up again e.g. for lunch at a predetermined time. I'm quite happy taking the 400 out with a slower group from time to time.

Ride sounds good, but whats this about a BBQ?. Been out of the loop for a couple of weeks.
Ability is average, would be good to meet some more KB'ers and get on the bike at the same time, after all, it is what we all have in common.

I will probably be keen, If you tell us where to and when.
I'll take tail end charlie, not that keen on mid group riding (my idea of a safe pass and a 250's idea of a safe pass are often worlds apart.) and not fast enough for the front.

The seperation is for the pace and not the size of bikes. If you are really quick, you will ofcourse be welcomed in the fast group.

ALRIGHT!!!
Im back now :P
Im keen to have a slower ride up to waiwera/orewa and stopping for lunch up there then coming back the same way. So again, probably beach road, east coast road, north to orewa, lunch, south to silverdale, east coast road, beach road. By slower i mean, not much over 130 on the straights, i did have my bike up around 140-160 last time but i was by myself cause some were to fast, and others were just a bit slower than me.
Just a nice easyride with me then. Meet around 10:30 at Holeshot in Barry's Pt, leave by 11. Return around 1-12, alwasy the option of the great motorway if you need to make up time <_<
If your keen see you there, TS this might be a bit slow for you, but it's always fun watching you!!!

Hey Dave, maybe we can discuss our route options at Autobahn on Sat morning? I'm not too fussed about travelling any more than 5kms along SH1 either! :disapint:
In the words of Big Dog, "That sounds like a Plan "

The ride from Autobahn Sat. Morn sounds like a bit of me, mind if I tag along?? Tag (as in follow) is possibly the key word here - I did 22 about 2 weekends ago and there's a few shaded, off camber, wet downhill corners in there at this time of year even on a fine, clear day that I am quite wary of, i'd be interested to see some of your guys approaches to them.
hahahaha hopeful the road be dry, i haven't had a good blast up the kamais in ages in the dry everytime i do it its been wet/damp
Now approx. 15 hours out and the question is "what is the weather really going to do tomorrow"? Forecast says cloudy - but they've been wrong before!
Here's hoping for :sunny: :ride: :sunny:

Sorry guys, I just feel a bit too miserable. I have had the cold for a while and its not getting much better. Plus I ran into a concrete power pole on the MTB today so my knee is a bit sore. I won't be able to make it tomorrow but I'll see if I feel any better on Sunday.

Not much to say really... I had a lot in my mind that was bothering me quite a bit. Going down the normal down hill route filled with obsticals, I missread my speed for a turn, went wide, locked up the brakes, understeered and headed straight for the powerpole, hit my knee first then shoulder then came to an instant stop. I lost feeling on my leg so I hopped about on the good leg thinking I must have busted a knee cap for sure but nope. I was all ok after about 1 hour. I just can't do any wheelies for a while now but that's all.
Just to remind everyone that this was on a Mountain bike! I should probably stay off the gsxr for the weekend too...

Glad the lapse in concerntration happened on your mountain bike and not the gixxer.
Did sound slightly amusing though (coming from someone who among other things once rode his bike into the back of a parked car). :killingme
Heal quick and you'll be back on one wheel in no time. Hope the "a lot in my mind that was bothering me" is all sorted to. Bad stresses suck.
