Was asked by an elderly lady if i would do a small job at her home, yes i said not a problem, well as i approached the gate to her place i was meet by an angry dog which came over the gate at me, i fended the dog off with my hand and pushed it back across the gate but by then this mutt had his teeth well an truly embedded in a few of my fingers.
I was lucky i had a 15 inch cresent in my right hand because i dont think this f$&=#2n mutt would have let go if i hadnt dealt it a real hard blow to its left ear.
Dont you just love doing people favours and end up bleeding and in some pain because people put up with dangerous dogs. I am wondering what recourse or action would others take in this instance.

If I was you I would have called for the old lady to control the dog and then take it from there. She may need that dog when some little dhit decide to screw her over

I was looking at a job for an old lady, I had met her staffy X dog, given it a pat and was talking to her when it grabbed me on the side of my thigh and shook me like crazy. Luckily I was wearing chainsaw pants so the teeth didnt penetrate, but the pressure ripped the skin pretty good.

I figured it was probably the old ladys favourite thing in the whole world and it bit me while on her property in the back yard where people normally wouldnt be. If she was younger or it wasnt in the dogs turf I would have called dog control.

dogs are dogs, they are allowed to have a go at strangers entering their property. Otherwise they wouldn't be very good guard dogs would they ?

Really, its the ladies fault she should have warned you first and should have a fence that stops the animal from assaulting people outside the property.

I agree with this, blaming the dog is the easy way... it's in their nature... what would stop her getting another if her current one was put down... then it starts all over again... and only the animals are loosing out... she should have warned of the dog, and contained it somewhere in the house for the duration of the visit...

Yep and Yep.

By the sounds of it you showed fear/aggression and by pushing the dog away that is one of the most threatning things you can do to a dog.

Once again, Human(s) at fault.

That is shit man.
If you have a dog that isn't friendly then you need a fence that is able to contain it. She should thank you for not smacking it any harder.
People who tie up, fence in, and warn about dogs are fine - but it pisses me off when they don't think about other people. I had a dog have a go at me once so i kicked it in the head and then got abused my the owners. I showed them the teeth marks in my thigh and they couldnt give a shit. GRRRRRR indeed!

and then gone for the old lady.

If people trained their dogs properly, the dogs wouldnt do this!
Its bullshit that you can be liable to attack when on someones property with the person there by you. If people don't, can't or won't have control of there dogs at all times, they shouldn't have one - and that goes for those little yappy bundles of shit as well!
It merely shows that the dog is in control - that, or the owner is tacitly allowing it to attack youby not having it under control!

I think the question here is - did the dog attack once you were inside the property or (as I read it) it was able to come OVER the gate and attack you off the property in a public street. If it was the latter then it could do the same to anyone who strays too close and needs to be reported to dog control. Or the next victim could be badly hurt.

Ya have just gotta love Dover's approach to life's little problems. (You crack me up Dover!)
There's just not enough green bling available to reward his clear concise and practical utterances.
How refreshing it would be if Helen Clark swapped places with Dover!
Dogs and little old ladies showing "respect" would be a good start! Cheers, John.(lol)

amazes me that people are allowed to have a dog without a prior training course in how to handle it .

then again - it amazes me that people are allowed to have a CHILD without .....

I agree that the owner should have control of the dog at all times but I didn't get the impression the lady was walking him through the gate.

he said 'I approached the gate' not 'we ...'

I also getting the feeling that the dog was a visitor too hence the inadequate fence and digsaw not expecting it in his neighbours property. The animal should have been tied up.

Definitely, I'm teaching Satan to be a right savage little bastard.

Not that he needs much teaching, he's a natural born killer.

And he's smart too. He growled at Crazy Steve and then pissed in his helmet.

Get the old lady put down....now that she's got the taste she'll only do it again.
We can't have unrestrained old ladies leaping fences at every stranger going past....or have I mis-read this thread?
