Hi.

My bike is in hibernation for the moment and I don't want to waste a new battery. What is the best way to keep your battery alive in the long term...

I know it should be charged every now and then...

What should I be looking for when buying a charger... and what is the best tactics for using it?

Thanks.

Try a Dick Smith Solar Charger as a battery needs to be charged the same way as it is discharged. Non use = slow recharge.

Go to K Mart in Porirua and buy yourself a Projecta On-Board 1600ma electronic charger for $59.95, screw it to the garage wall, fit the cable connections to your battery and plug it in. When you want to ride unplug it and off you go. I have all 5 bikes in our garage on them. Cheaper to buy at K mart than the same thing at Repco for $89.95.

Here it is here http://www.projecta.com.au//catalogue/list/asset_id/15/cid/3/parent/0/t/catalogue/title/AC250B comes with the permanent connection cable and for charging other batteries you just plug in the cable with the spring clips on the end.

Hi, I took your advice on the charger and bought one from K-mart...

It's a brilliant charger and precisely what I wanted.

I really recommend this for anyone who has a few bikes and only two hands to ride one bike at a time!!!

The quick plug-in makes it really easy to use and is quick to install...

Thanks for the brilliant advice!!!
