Hey everyone

ive got a bit of a problem....

I ride a RG150, as as you might have read from the other threads im not a slow rider....

I need a bigger bike, but heres the problem, ive only been riding 6 months therefore cant get a bike bigger than 250 on the road

These are the options i have........

1) Keep the RG150 as a road bike and Race bike....

2) Keep the RG150 as a road bike and get a 400 for F3 racing...

3) Sell the RG150 get a RGV250 and a F3 race bike.....

or 4) Get a RGV250 for the road and keep the RG150 as a race bike....

Ofcourse im still in the saving money process but need to know what too look for

Cheers for the help, and can you please comment on personal experience etc :niceone:

It all depends on how much cha ching ya got. 150cc class are great and very competitive I am told. It should be way cheaper than F3 as well.

You might want to look into racing your RG150 unless you can afford to race in F3.

From what I can gather from you, I don't think you'll be leaving the road bike riding scean anytime soon so a 2 smoke 250 for the road might just be perfect to enhance your skills.

IMO I'd keep the mighty RG for racing and get a RGV250 road bike :niceone:

I think MR is on to it. Mind you those RGV250's are pretty kick-ass for their engine size. You'd probably end up racing that too:msn-wink:

Dude ya diddn't suggest the clearest option.
Get a 150 race bike--there are a shit load of advantages
I-you can use the road bike to run in ya race engine.
half worn race tyres can see new life on the road bike.
If you need the parts in a hurry to keep either machine going theyre available.

What he said, get another RG150 and race it, this way you can accidently slip on the road fairings onto the track bike for a very quick blat around town, plus having an easy supply of spare parts if you need them in a hurry

Yeah it is an option and ive already got spare fairing and parts for it.... but i need the extra power on the road.....

Well what about race tuning the bike, and having 2 set's of fairings? best of both worlds

I senced that and thats why I sujested the RGV250. After you ride the RGV250 on the road. Your skill level will be boosted up for going back to the RG150 for the track.

You cant race tune a RG150 for the SS150 class as its street stock..... My Rg150 is set up for racing..... yea MR thats what im thinking RGV for the road to get the power.... but with the way im riding after 2-4 months i will want a bigger bike :( but im sure the RGV will keep me happy for a while :niceone:

Any other thoughts????

Oh and forgot...... can you please give me reasons for your choice on the poll :niceone:

Hey dude, dont get another two smoker (yeah, your alias will be a little bit misleading). When I upgraded from my 150 I considered an RGV, as they are fun with the powerband and all (like the RG), but went for a 400 and I'm VERY pleased I did. With the 4-banger being so much smoother I found that I improved my riding style no end, and I got my knee scraping far more than I predict I would on an RGV. In the end though it all comes down to the $$$$$. Good luck anyways...

Yeah i would love a 400 hundred, but im only on my learners (soon to be restricted) (and yes i know it doesnt look like ive only been riding for only 6 months) Not worried about knee scraping as i can do it anywhere i like..... im more after the power.......

That RGV looks good, but if i buy it i will have to sell my RG..... And i just bought a TT900GP for the RG which cost me $240  but at least i know it will stick like shit to a blanket....... mite make me a bit faster too hehehe.....

Hmmmm looks like ill have too keep waiting and looking......

Yeah yeah - blah blah - I'm so fast. Who the fuck cares.

I used to scrape the pegs on my CB200 everywhere too and then complain about people not seeing me - pulling out etc. What a little tosser I was.

Go get a race bike and race on the track.

Keep in mind that improving your bike handling skills and improving your survival skills are two different things. You need BOTH before you get a bigger road bike.

I'm not totally down on you dude - but you have got a major crash coming up on you - most likely involving a teenager texting behing the wheel, a hoody in a legacy and dodering 70 year old trying to remember wether the pedal on the right is the brake pedal.

true, yeah well best to stick for the RG for a while then and get a race bike. If your only six months into your stint, I am sure will be able to find yet more speed in the twisties on the RG

Bad advise! :sneaky2:

That is because you haven't seen him ride (even if it's just for 6mo). TS is pretty close to or is on the bike's limit as it is. Telling him to find more speed on the road is just not a very good idea.

IMO he needs to race it on the track and get a bigger road bike so that he doesn't have to push it so hard for the road.

Fuckit I hate how he is saying that :Pokey:
BUT I do agree with the sentiment.
TS you have more natural talent inyour little finger than Ive got in my whole body. (no you CANT borrow mella yella)
I would hate you to be a statistic. If you are serious about a racing career
Id get my arse out on the track where it belongs if I were you.
Ride a bit more sedately on the road and leave the 11\10ths stuff for the track. I by the way dont nessasarily mean the body bag stuff -more the guys I've raced with who have no road licences.
No licence i think wuld mean no job
Aww fuggit i sound like an old man

Do a season of racing on your RG 150 by the time you have finished you'll be spoilt for choice. I think if you got an RGV 250 for the road you only get board with it and want something bigger after 6 mounths anyway. But after a season of relatively cheap racing on bike you already own you can mare an informed decision on wether you are a racer or a road rider (with a full license by then) or maybe both.

Cheers for the advice Bandito :niceone: thats what i was thinking along the lines of..... if i get an RGV now i will be bored with it too soon......

As for survival skill, yes i work on those too....... I ride with KK and he has some of the best survival skills i have seen..... My dad is also a cop, and was trained to drive and ride by the MOT so he has taught me a thing or two and still is...... I have also been driving for many years done defensive driving courses etc....

I do not always push it too the limits on the road, because otherwise i would be quickly finding myself in a body bag....i generally ride at about 8/10's and 9/10's of what the bike is capable of........

I cant find anymore speed in the twisties on the RG due to my pegs scraping (an RG has to be pushed alot harder than a CB200 sorry)

And as MR has said, my time i have been on the bike doesnt relate too my skill level......

Im not being a big heaaded egotistic bastard thinking "yeah im the shit and so fast"

Im thinking more along the financial sides and racing career :niceone:

But once again i thank you all for your inputs :niceone:

Well im going to race the RG instead of getting a F3 bike...... But i still dont know what to do about a road bike.....

If you want to save the RG150 for the track, go buy a cheap GN or FXR or another boring little commuter type to get around on, set up the RG and go for it in the 150 class. Do your restricted and full tests the first day you can, and treat the intervening time as character-building, or something...

Then you can buy a nice 600 or similar for not much more than a fast 250 would cost you now.

I booked my restricted on the EXACT first day i could, and now im sitting it on the 22nd of June.......

I dont want a boring commuter tho.... ive got a cage for that..... I need a blatter that has no worries sitting at 100kmh for ages on end (the RG doesnt like it in huge amounts)

Not worried about a 600 for at least 12-18 months....

Get a CB250RS or a MZ.... they dont mind being at 100. I rode the MZ very happily to whangamata, no worries....

Edit: I've heard those FXRs are good stunt bikes
Edit 2: Of course, anything that could sit happily at 100 would be capable of 150 at least..... :Pokey: :Pokey:

hey TS maybee a crash damaged 250 4 stroke. Ive seen a lot of em in my time and most of these lil pocket rockets only have cosmetic damage.
You would get it cheap and I'd be happy to show ya how to turn it into a road legal streetfighter.
Then you would have a road/stunt bike and a race bike

Ride or race you rg the bloody thing is goin to blow up
and when it does - there not worth rebuilding
mine did a bottom end bearing after some hard thrashing and some good servicing for 2 years.
rebuild was over $1.8K
so i say either ride it till it dies (cos they are such cool bikes) - or sell it (not reccommended)

Geez, this came up from the dead lol, i better update it.....

As you can see in my Avatar, that is me racing my RG150..... I now have a ZXR400L which is being turned into a F3 Race bike..... My K5 GSX-R600 will be here either next week or the week after....

Decided on no to the RGV, because of maintainance and the fact that i highsided one a couple of weeks ago....

My RG150 is MINT at the mo, hasnt seized, have rebuilt it at about 29000kms.... and now has braided brake lines.... should be good for another 15000kms.....

So in the end i have got 3 bikes now
