Blind spot

Turned right out of Puhoi rd yesterday afternoon headed right to waiwera.doing about 80-90 k's max (I had not been at pub)
Right hand bend at bottom of hill, i was following my mate in the righthand wheel line of cars in front, i was about 2 car lengths behind mate.
get half way around corner and a gentleman of Asian descent comes toward us at least a metre over the double yellow no pass lines, he is looking and talking i think to passenger.
He miss's mate by about 300mm and i think to myself Fuck that was close craig.
Then my turn, i somehow stood the wee strom more vertical as i felt my elbow hit the car, the c##t broke my front indicator and i had white paint on the nob on the end of my handlebars.
somehow stayed on the bike ,
i think maybe the wheel arch of the car hit my indicator.
Keep looking at the wee strom and cannot work out how the tank or my leg missed the prick.
Any way i am alive which is nice, awake from 4am- 6am this morning with what if's running thru my brain.
Now wondering if left wheel line is not a better option to follow in behind cages.
Good way to get the heart pumping i tell you.

You are very lucky, keep riding safe mate.

Probably not... its called tunnel vision... only see a direct line in front of you...dont turn the head to look sideways... the head never moves nor do the eyes... hence it called tunnel vision.

Crickey mate that was close!! I had an asian do something similar to me once too where they were parked on the side of the road and as I was about to ride on past they decided it was a good time to do a U turn and the prick clipped my leg (no damage to that luckily as there was already a 420mm long rod and 3 bolts holding it together from another asian that hit me) and broke my rear indicator off

I'm going to buy a Vee Strom for my next bike, once my GSX-R is all worn out. Looks like the best of two worlds type of bike.

Shit, you are one lucky bastard! Getting your indicator broken was bad enough but I am impressed you stayed on the bike and didn't suffer the same fate - ie, broken bits.

Buy a Lotto ticket while your luck's still good!

Maybe in situations like this, but generally I'd say no. The other day I noticed someone doing that and thought to myself, I never even saw that bike until well after the car he was following passed me (opposite side of road). :dodge: If I had been waiting for that car to pass before pulling into a driveway or road on other side of the road, I probabaly would have collected said biker.
So glad to hear you had a lucky escape though, good sturdy bike and rider by the sounds.

The "plick" would not have any idea... just like his driving... absolutely no idea!!!

Going around a right hand bend it sometimes is. A bike at lean takes up a fair amount of room and riding in the right hand wheel track can put you quite close to the centre line. On the straights, no.

Regardless, glad you're ok mate. Good skills both in avoidance but also keeping on the bike once he nudged you.

Times like this I try to put faith in Karma to sort out the son of a bitch.

Ahh honoulable asian gentleman purchase dlivers ricense for $400 from crooked instructor.

Hopefully he will repeat his masterful acts of driving another day when its an 18 wheeler in the oncoming lane, and gene pool will be improved.

If you've got white paint on your bike then at least he caused some damage to his cage - small consolation I know but better than nothing.

Funny how the Asian community comes in for so much stick about driving over here - I get cut up regularly and find the ratios more as follows:

White 35-45 years old Holden Driver c60%
White 35-45 years old Falcon Driver c30%
Asian 20-30 years old - Once
Maori 20-30 years old Once (and I was on the deck after that one)
Pacific Island 20-40 c4%

When I see really dumbarsed driving the driver invariably has white hair and white skin.

Well done on keeping the rubber side down - I'd have been sliding along the tarmac on my arse in your position.
