Aprilia exhaust

Hey, has anyone modified the standard cans on a 2004 or newer RSV 1000.
I would like to give my bike that nice deep rumble that a big v twin should have, but dont have the rediculous funds required to replace both cans with after market. And the standard cans are very nice looking units anyway, just too restricted.
If no one here has done it, do you know of anyone that would be caipable and you would recomend.

Supposedly cant be done. I negotiated having it done as part of my purchase price, however when the dealer came to do it they pulled it apart and decided against it. They called the distributer (Eric Wood MC in Chch), who apparently said that they had tried it and it was a lot of stuffing around that resulted in a louder, but poorly running bike.

I used a lot of supposedly's and apparently's in there as I no longer trust a word this dealer says, so dont take the above as gospel unless someone else backs it up.

However, I've now got a set of arrow cans on, it sounds fantastic, and has given a nice little boost in power across the range as well. Unfortunately I dont seem to have a good side-on photo of the cans here at work, but if you can see them in my profile pic. Give me a yell if you want to meet up sometime to have a listen to them as well.

hey I have been looking all over the place for exhausts recently and am sure I saw a pair of aftermarket ones on trade me or ebay in the last week, might still be there, can't remember the make but am positive they are for RSV

It is an easy job done heaps of mufflers , but with RSV's they will need to be tuned after . Guy here with a Factory gutted his then took it to get PowerComander fitted & tuned as was told not to ride it until done, Aprilia dealer told him this so keep inmind before doing any cutting . As sound sometime doesn't mean more power or corret fueling !!.

No, they went straight on. If you do decide to go for a PC as well, there is a map available for the RSVR with Arrow cans (with standard filter and another one if you have a K&N fitted if I remember rightly) which would be a good base point to start tuning from. I would like to do this at some stage, when I have some spare cash.

I havent been on the Aprilia Forums (other than researching the SVX's) so not sure about their guide to gutting the original cans, however the word back from the dealership I got my bike from was that it was a difficult job and would make the bike run like shit. The "runs like shit" bit of it sounds right from what Sensei is saying, but if it just takes a PC and a few dyno runs to sort it then it might be a better option than an after market pipe as it retains the "stock" look - less hassle from cops with these new decibel limits? Who knows.

One good thing about the arrows is that the come with removable baffles (takes just a minute to fit them), so you have the choice of two noise levels.

I reckon with the new noise regs, that you should keep your standard pipes standard and just fit cans. Expect a clamp down on this quite soon.

Last time I took my 03 Edwards for a WOF, a bike-riding wof inspector said to me to expect to get some shit in the future about the Akrapovics. These are fitted to the bike as I purchased it, with the standard can, its relevant computer, and other associated ballast being in the spares kit.

I will be pissed right off if I have to spend hours changing the pipes and the chip and the exhaust hangers every time I want a WOF!

Points to consider.

Are the Akropovics a ripoff - depends on your income. I'm skint at the moment so I reckon they are :angry:

Do they sound good - fuck yes! Aural Viagra...

If I munted the pipes and had to replace them, would I look for a cheaper alternative - probably would...

Auckland and goes by the handle Scott2ride and has done this on his 04 Factory,tell him Darren fm Taranaki on the Super Duke sent you his way and he'll be more than helpful and point you in the right direction. The Arrows have a baffle that just slots in the end, held in place with a circlip. I have held them in by hand long enough to realise I dont want them in there, but I'm picking I could fit them both in less than a minute, and about the same to remove them again should the be needed for warrant. Makes a joke of it all really.

Anyway, ArcherWC - keep us posted on how you get on with gutting the standard exhuasts, what they sound like and whether the bike runs better or worse as a result.

Your not bloody wrong there ! I know they're different pipes but my Akropovics came with a reduction in the end that is held in by an allen bolt, five minute job when the filth start hounding me. I was gutted, the Arrow can I had on my 2000R only lasted 45000k's (fitted @ zerok's),bloody piece of shit !:dodge:

Yea true dude but if it needs shims I don't have them so Jason can play with it , plus I don't do these everyday like my job so will leave it to those that do .
