Do your bike a favour and fit a radiator guard to it like this.
I made this one for mine and I have a spare one left already cut and ready to fit.
Its available to the first taker for $25 and if yer in Auck I can probably give ya a hand to fit it too.

Is that a new bike for you? Congrats if it is, you'll have a total blast on that thing!
All the K5/K6 riders in Welly are well kitted already.
Wise words though, those Aluminium radiators are money traps without a guard. Repco and Supercheap sell good mesh for the job. A few cable ties and all sweet.
I'd say if anybody is buying a new Gixxer now, Wait for the K7. It must be only a couple of months from release and it will be a new shape too.
Don't forget to sign up for the Gixxer trackday!!!

Yeah this is my new bike, had to wait quite a while for it to come in as there were none left in this colour. Really like it so far, far nicer to ride than my old CBR1000RR.
I bought the mesh in a larger sheet from Ullrich and yeah it only took about 20mins to fit it. The thing that took the longest was the removal and refitting the side fairings.
Have been speaking with Colemans about the K7 model and they aren't expecting it to be released till around March/April 07.

I've had 2 CBR900RR's and a CBR1000RR and none of them had factory rad guards.

They must weigh too much for their little statistics wars that they have on who can make the lightest bike, not how user friendly or how they preform in the real world!
