Guys N Gals
In New Zealand We live in a world that is on the whole not anti biker .
Actually its worse--they are indifferent to us --they dont care !!!
We can beat our chests and make all the wuffing noises we want to --they still dont care.
Heres a lil bit of reality for ya
Trucks are gonna dump lil diesel trails and sometimes little trails of bark/dirt/sand
,Road workers are gonna leave tar snakes and use the slippery kind of paint when they can get away with it-
Cars are going to open doors, change lanes ans pull out in front of ya.
Dogs are gonna chase ya.
The wind and rain affects us more than cars.
Road riding is dangerous.
Thats life as a biker
the important bit is that you are able to ride knowing that -
Folks this isn't intended to put anyone off riding a bike. Far from it BUT rather than haveing rose tinted glasses on lets go out on the road with our eves n ears wide open

I agree Frosty - but without beating our chests and huffing to the right people at the right time (Safaes workshops for example), we can only expect more of the same.
If European countries can look at the stupidity of placing more hazards on the road such as cheescutter wire, and banning them or making them safer, then so can/should we.

sorry deano--Mate not trying to be a prick. But could, should, would doesn't cut it. The reality of today is they don't give a shit. Given that kiwibiker is representitive of nz bikers, we can't even get 100 of us to present a united front at a sodding track day if you get my drift. Unless we are prepared to unite, then we will never get in to the eyes and heads of those that make the rules. We are too small and splintered a minority for them to bother listening unless we show solidarity. Reality tells me that is unlikely to happen.

Ride, be aware and remember it is your life the lowest common denominator is playing with.
It's still more than fun.

As long as I can still bitch and whinge about it I'll be a happy boy...
Sort of...
The plebes don’t see trucks and busses, we don’t have a chance!
The road crews get bugger all per hour and so don’t give a rats!
The councils that have to fix the roads have a tight budget so keep it cheep and nasty!
Dogs chase bikes, as I found to my detriment a little while ago...
You can see diesel, oil, gravel and cow shit on the road 90% of the time, and the other 10% will wake you up very quickly!
Riding in the rain keeps you smooth, and wind keeps it exciting!
Still beats sitting in a little metal box!
If we want to have a cry about something then get them to drop the ACC crap which we pay because of others (cars) stupidity!
Its only dangerous a lot of the time because of what WE do, (doubled any corner speeds lately?) but that’s humans for you.
Danger can be fun and can be found anywhere if you look hard enough.
For example; approximately 13 people are killed every year by vending machines!

You're not wrong. Its nice to vent on here though. I spose we should all be gratefull they haven't tried to ban bikes completely - or some fuckwit try to sue a manufacturer for letting him be able to buy something so outrageously fast for so little money and little to no training.

And won, that’s why we have "Caution! Do not stop moving chain with hands or genitals!" stickers on chainsaws...
Okay, maybe we dont but they are coming!

If recent sales of motorbikes are anything to go by the number of bikers is growing - we should welcome these buggers with open arms - unfortunately there are purist individuals who try to belittle the newbies but won't go into that just now.
Point is, with the right promotion we won't be a monority too much longer - and as the votes for motorbikes increase the govt will have to watch it's arse that it doesn't piss off the electorate!
C'mon - encourage lots of people onto bikes.

Seriously guys, you need a voice to make your Gov'ment be aware that you at least exist, don't know what you have already?.... if any?
Some interesting reading here and yes these originally started off as peaceful protest rides.

I hate Michael Jackson but 'the man in the mirror' song is apt, and is where it all starts.
Or should we just keep sticking our heads in the sand ?
Safeas workshops were well attended by KBers. It's easy to be cynical (I can be very cynical too), but the only way to change a culture is to stand up and be counted. (Or is the purpose of this thread to instill a bit of millitance (sp), kinda like reverse psychology.
What do you reckon our ACC levies would be without the parliament protest rides that occurred in the past ?

I resent that last comment - I am not a hairy biker - mind you when you are as folically challenged as I am it is sort of nice to be thought of as one - a hairy biker that is (not a school girl):scooter:

I agree they don't give a shit about us, BUT
1) It is way more fun than taking the bus.
2) Statistically it is more dangerous to change a lightbulb than ride a bike
