I commute 15Ks on the MTB 5 days a week going to work and back. Its not much but I can't help it with the winter darkness covering the sky by 6:00PM :sneaky2:
For the weekends, I jump around the bike like a monkey when riding it in the twisties! :niceone: :ride:

I also do the mulisport thing when I'm not on the bike so I work out plenty. When you get a certain level of fitness you will start to really enjoy the pain. Liek I always say "train 'till you shit blood!"

Yes time is everything...
The trouble is that you probably wont find the time epically when its exercise. And this forum doesn’t help either.
FORUMS = The biggest time waster on the internet but also the most useful way to communicate. Well I say, have no facts , is for me anyway

Nice avatar Wkid - Ive been thinking about getting back into some semi serious training and that could just about be the required motivation.
Either that or some eager training partners - any takers in Wgtn area ?
Promise to get you bloody fit or kill you...... :kick:

I'm already at Les Mills on Taranaki, not as often as I'd like though. I try to do at least 3 times a week. Summer normally includes mountain biking at least once a week.

Nice wee gym that.
I used to train at Planet Health down in Henderson Valley Rd but it's a bit far to go now I'm living in tat norf, so I go to JustWorkout in Takapuna which is nice and close to work. I've always preferred training immediately after work instead of going home first.
In fact if any of the shore-boy KBers want to try it out I can likely get you a free training session there.

I have recently tried to get back into training, but the dojang lost its venue and renovations an all .... . But I will definately get back into it as soon as I can find one with child freindly training times. At the mo I am kicking and punching down in the garage if anyone want to join me it TAt P.

Come on Jimbo, 'chasing' skirt and 'lifting weights' (12oz at a time) does not constitute multisports.... :Pokey:

I fecking LIFT, matey. No prancing for me. Always hated it. Don't go for runs or nuffin', neither. 'Just lifting' drops the fat off me as much as I ever need to.
Now, a disclaimer: my life is all out of balance right now, I'm a fat bastard and my lifts are not at their best.
But when I'm training properly, I like to lift three times a week - upper body 'push', lower body 'push', upper body 'pull'. I've always used my powerlifting totals as training goals and benchmarks, kept my workouts simple with nothing but free weights and compound movements. I prefer to err on the side of undertraining after a whole year went past a while back in which I couldn't get over 85kg and didn't increase my lifts due to obsessive overtraining and an insufficient diet.
If anyone's interested in lifting, I'm happy to loan out my copy of Beyond Brawn. Great book for the beginner who's confused by all the crap and hype surrounding what goes on in the gym.

I think also it is muscle development - I have a very light upper body, and working on that is very very difficult. It seems like I am lifting no weight at all, then suddenly I cant lift anymore. With my lower body it is a different story, and I get the satisfying burn of my muscles saying they have been used.

Persevere, mate. Just keep plugging away at the training and remembering to drink your protein shakes, and in ten years time you'll be the chunky little bastard with the floppy hairdo that gets all the chicks. Promise. ;)

I found the Joe Wieder BodyBuilding System book easier to read and actually use the principals.
I was 'at one stage' training to compete on stage.....but fuck does it not half dominate your life.
In all honesty - if you are looking to start training get the Body For Life book and follow it to the letter. In all my years of training for competition - I am yet to find a simplier, more complete and more successful method of training naturally

I need to work on endurance and upper body strenth
Im thinking probably a good swimming program will help there

When it comes to the gym I enjoy circuits.
I have no interest:
in bulking up
being able to run marathons
being stronger than I already am.
If I ever need to be stronger I'll do what I need, until then.....WHY?
I only want to:
learn how to swim
get bike fit
lose enough weight to be able to buy non custom leather.
In my experience my weight has more to do with my state of mind than ANY amount of working out. If I'm happy, low stress, and am not facing repossession of anything then I lose weight rapidly. If I am unhappy stressed or in finacial shtick I balloon up.
I can't jog (dislocated knees in bike accident), I loathe team sports (they are so stressful I gain weight), I can't seem to find a Dojo I like ever since leaving school.
I like swimming, Martial arts, gym. Maybe when the bike is paid for for I can afford another membership.

There's no actual *bad* training information, per se, in that book, but don't believe all Bill Phillips' EAS bullshit. That guy is a slimeball.
History? He used to run a pretty hardcore mag called Muscle Media. Then they went all commercial and pandered to the masses with pictures of juiced-up freaks and articles implying that you, too, could do this if you only spent several hundred dollars a month on (their brand of) supplements (BP himself certainly used the juice plenty back in the day, he wasn't taking nothing but bloody protein shakes, that's for sure).
And suddenly steroids became Evil. That whole fscked-up hypocritical bodybuilding scene is part of the reason why those (very clinically useful) drugs are now Sched. III in the USA, just like marijuana, and GPs won't touch them with a ten-foot barge pole, not even for AIDS patients with severe muscle wasting.
If people like Mr Phillips had promoted honest discussion of pharmacological performance enhancement instead of pretending to demonise it while showing its results as what you could do with a 'healthy lifestyle', and thereby screwing up the entire public image of what was possible, and was was 'good for you', maybe things would be different today.

i've just taken up swimming again.
it's a fun way to increase stamina and burn some fat.
plus i get to have 2 rides in the morning.(1 to the pool & 1 to work) 8-)
when i get to work I am 'alert as' till 1pm when i need more coffee to break through the yawn barrier. hopefully if i get fitter things will come easier for me & i can fit my old leather pants.

I went from 60kg to 93kg in 18 months :shit:
Was training 5 days a week, all lifting and about 5 mins of cardio per session. Was also spending about $400/week on food.
All of a sudden I got bored and stopped, now I'm down to 85kg. I've realised that being a huge bastard is cool if you wanna be at the gym 30 hours a week for the rest of your life and be perpetually broke, but for the average joe who just wants to keep in shape and look at hotties for a few hours a week, a balanced diet and regular exersize should be enough.

I hate "training" for fitnness.. But hitting the "giyme" (Homer simpson quote) for muscle building is fun... IMO, as long as you have a good training partner...

Im the opposite - prefer aerobic (leading into anaerobic) workouts whilst learning some valuable self defence skills. But each to their own I guess. One thing that used to make me laugh was the 'poser type' weight lifters who would check the mirrors to see who was watching them - "oooh, look at my big muscles". Save the vanity for your bathroom mirror.

Well if anyone is interested in a training partner for Les Mills in town, drop me a line.
Currently do a 10 min cardo warmup, run or row, and then about an hour of weights, either upper or lower body. Looking to be a bit more defined, but really after endurance and streigth.

Yes, but then comes the inevitable awkward moment when you hit her in the chest or she kicks you in the groin. But perhaps not as bad as a friend of mine who accidently hit a little kid.
I haven't got the time to train at the moment (not so much time in total, but the same time as when everyone else trains). I have resorted to going downstairs and using a wingchun (sp.) dummy (chinese - wooden man). It is a block of pine with rimu pegs and padded bits. You smack it around a bit and it makes you feel better, until you use a closed hand technique on a solid piece of rimu then it gets its own back.
