View Full Version : Metal shards on Harbour Bridge

This morning coming south over the bridge I saw new white metal shard spiky things sticking up on the central reservation part of the bridge very close to the road, every few meters or so.

WTF - are they to stop cars crossing over to the other side? If a car runs over one they'll instantly get a puncture and possibly go out of control, even crossing over to the opposite side. What moron put them there overnight? They are new - don't think they were there yesterday. Dread to think what'll happen if a bike hits one, or if you fall off and land on one.

thanks for letting us all know, I'll look out for it tonight. I've had the misfortune of having to stop right on the bridge (admitedly because I ran out of petrol).....

Yup I have broken down while heading up the bridge. I had a fair bit of speed and was just able to coast over the top and roll to a stop right outside the police coms center.... :shit:

Are they curved and about a foot to half a metre in height??

Think you will find they are plastic bendy things designed to make a metric fucktin of noise when you drive over them in a car

Are you sure there not plastic tags stapled to the road, Normally an inch or so in height. If so they normally use them as reference points for road marking after resealing

I think your refering to the plastic (yes it is plastic) markers that are about 150-200mm in height on the median which seperates the main bridge from the extensions.... they have been there for years... One: you should be riding/driving on that part unless in an emergency. Two: there is a possibility of a puncture, but it wont be an instant blow out so you wont smash into other cars etc...

No - not those plastic bent-over thingys. Those are still there and look different. These are new, vertical, white, about 25cm tall, and look nasty to a biker. If they are bendy and made of plastic then fair enough but without stopping you can't be certain. They kinda look like preparation to put something on top, like kerbstones for example, to keep them in place, except there are no kerbstones there yet. Take a look for yourself next time you cross. They are only on part of the bridge, not the whole way across.

Checked them out and they are in the same place as the old ones were (the plastic little noise maker things) but they are very solid looking plastic from the 100kmhr inspection with the base of the upright being about an inch thick and could see it hurting if you slid into a few of them!

Last Saturday I noticed that one of those shards had been knocked out of place - it was lying on the central reservation, intact. Someone must have hit it. Must be pretty tough. If it landed on the road it'd give you a nasty puncture - might even send a bus careering off the bridge. Whoever put them there must be a bloody idiot.
