... Backways, Byways & Beyond - to the - Burt Munro ...

You may be aware the INAUGURAL Burt Munro challenge is on in Invercargill over the weekend 24-26 of November.

Not only is it a rally with all the usual trimmings, it's been sprinkled with a unique Southland flavour in the form of a full weekend celebrating all things motorcycle racing.

There is beach racing Saturday morning - circuit racing @ Teretonga in the afternoon & speedway in the evening - all with in walking distance of the rally site.

But Wait There's MORE
A full days street racing @ Wyndham on the Sunday

For me, it's an event not to be missed. Did I mention it's the INAUGURAL event.

I have a bit of a idea/plan that involves getting there & back by more shingle roads & tracks than blacktop. It will probably be a 6 day round trip from Ch-ch.

I'm fishing to see if any KBers out there might be keen to do something like this & travel the roads less used to the (did I mention it's the) inaugural Burt Munro Challenge.

I'm halfway between Milton and Lawrence in Sth Otago.Let me know if you want a place to camp on the way there or back - some great back road trips around here which could be worked in with your trip and I could ride with you. The weekend itself won't suit me.
Good luck pulling this together

Had thought of going down but Farkin hell its expensive...a mate worked out that if you went to all the main events over the weekend you are looking at shitloads just for entry fees.....think i will just go up to the winchester rally instead.

Awesome idea. I'm coming south in dec so not this year but maybe next.

Is there a prize for competing in all the events on the bike you ride there? Better brush up on my speedway technique :Punk:

Cheers

Likewise, I know the Invers rally is closer but I'm already set for Winchester, bummer they're on the same weekend.

Apparently Musclecar Madness is same weekend as Woodstock Rally next year so will have to toss a coin for that too.

Anybody have a date for the Glenorchy rally?

That's last years Glenorchy stuff still on that site... guess you'll have to stay tuned for the update when they find out themselves.

And back to the BBBBM...

A nice dream but don't expect to be able to go myself

Rally entry fee ... Pre $35 - on the day $40 ... this get you free entry to Teretonga & the Speedway ... $5 for the beach racing viewing ... road racing T.B.A. - suspect it would be what you would pay for Paeroa-Wanganui-Nelson-Greymouth entry ... yes ... if you are racing entry/registration fees apply & suspect it was these that he seen.

Bring ya plans forward ... it'll be a hoot & you know it.

Only Speedway/Sidechair bike can race in the speedway events ... bugger ... as I can see an orange blurr bouncing around the track ... every other event can be entered ... perhaps we could glue a speedway bike cut out to the LC4 & THEN you could get the prize.

Was he still racing when you meet him ??? ... have you read George Beggs Book ??? ... Burt loved free stuff & attention - on his terms ... fun for non Burts ??? ... there was only one Burt & he is a genuine piece of Kiwiana ... it's about his spirit.

I see a market for a hydraulic centre stand - a lone ranger run up and dive aboard, start her up , and then cruise away as the undercarriage gently retracts - and then theres something for the bike as well!!!

Heads up guys. A wee way ahead but thought you should all know. 24 - 26 November. Beach racing followed by track racing at Teretonga Raceway, finishing with speedway. Some of my mates are already organising to come down so it would be good if some Kiwibikers turned up too.

This has the potential to be a big event because it will be embraced by the local community as well as bikers.

There is a few of us from the North Shore looking to head off on the 22nd to Wgton ferry over that night and head to Invercargill on the next day (Thursday). Looking to head back on Sunday night to Hamner and then wander back north on Mon/Tue. Unsure of numbers at the moment possibly a couple of Guzzi's a BMW and the odd Triumph and of course the Bandit.
Hope the HP are a little more liberal in the South than up our way at the moment as it might end up a long slow trip.:(

Myself and a few workmates will be heading down from just north of Christchurch for this. Probably head down inland and then come back up the coast. Sounds like a great weekend planned.

cheaper boat tickets for bikers & thier machines too.
$35 for bike each way + $35 per person each way.
there is a number you must quote to get the discount, i think it's on the southland website.
theres also a link from the radio hauraki web site.

Looking forward to meeting some of you at the Rally. We need a flag or agreed place to bump into each other and I'm not sure what to suggest. Any ideas?

I've got three mates coming down from various places and we are planning on visiting the Truck Museum on Friday afternoon. Despite living here, I've never seen it. Details on the Venture Southland website.

This Press release came through to KB from Jared Loves' team. :scooter:

JARED LOVE READY FOR BURT MUNRO CHALLENGE

Street Champion, Jared Love is all set to light up the streets of Invercargill on the big Ducati 996R this weekend. With a bag fill of wins and a new BEARS lap record set at Phillip Island, Australia in August, this is the combination to watch for as Jared streaks down the streets of Wyndham at speeds in excess of 250km per hour.

This weekend is the first time the Burt Munro Challenge has been held and its all in the name of Burt Munro, the man who holds the land-speed record on a Indian Scout. His feat was so great it has made the big screens with the block buster The World's Fastest Indian. This weekend is a tribute to the great Kiwi from Invercargill, NZ.

Invercargill have put together "one hell of a weekend" with the Burt Munro Challenge Rally, Beach Race, Memorial Endurance Race, Speedway Spectacular and Wyndham Street Race. It will be the place to be however if you can't make it, SKY TV have confirmed they will be filming a two hour special.

LOVE will race the Fast by Marcus Ducati at the Endurance Race Saturday 24th November at Teretonga Raceway and the Wyndham Street Race on Sunday the 25th November in both Formula 1 and BEARS classes. With competition coming from as far as the UK and US, the racing should be fast paced and exciting, but with 6 wins from 6 starts at the Greymouth Street races fresh in his mind from four weeks ago, Jared is very confident.

We hope to see you all in Invercargill.

Lots & lots of bikes heading past my place on the way to the Burt Munro.

Wind is REALLY going for it and I would say a wet ride from Clinton to Invercargill (about 100km of travel)for those going.

Me? I'm heading north, wind will be behind me and so (with a bit of luck) will the rain.

Yeah the wind is getting up a bit but it'll blow out. Might make for an interesting night in the tent!
