I FUCKING HATE WINDOWS

Right, here's the score.

I have my PC connected to Jetstream thru a D-LINK 302G DSL modem using the ethernet port.

I have a D-Link Wireless Hesp o shite card in my PC

She with no brains has a craptop with a wireless mini heap o shite in it.

I got the fuckers talking to each other but I'll be dressed in pink and called Mary-Sue if I can browse the net thru her craptop. I have tried the usual Windows for fuckwits internet connection sharing, which I figured was a waste of time cos I'm basically connecting to two different LAN's.

I have bridged the network connections and disabled the fucking uselss windows firewall yet I can't get the craptop to connect to the interwank.

I want to hurl abuse at you lot while I sit on the shitter drinking lion red and smoking crack so someone tell me what I need to do before all this expensive electronic shite ends up in the pond or fed to the spaniel.

Thanks muchly.

Easy limey. I think you'll need to connect the laptop directly to the hub first, set it up, then try wireless. Failing that, I'll fix it on the weekend you technomoron.

There is no fucking hub. It's a queer to queer network.

The computers are talking the same lingo but her's can't leave the cuntry.

I'm not splashing out for a hub. That's 6 boxes of piss.

You know a whole heap of technical computer terms! Are you really sure you are NOT a computer nerd yourself???

WTF is a D-link or a LAN?

If you cannot hammer and chisel the bugger then put a nice coat of polish on top it ain't proper materials to be working with...

Go ahead. Bill Gates has been asking for it for quite some time...:ar15: :ar15: :ar15:

You set up the Dlink with the right username and password and also have you made sure that the wireless doohicky isnt trying to provide its own mac address?

If it's any consolation Steve Jobs isn't much better - I have G3, G4 and G5 macs with different OS's on a hub and they barely talk to each other either.

D-Lin 302G is a piece of $hite. Xtra are crooks and robbers.

You must have a D-Link PCI card in your PC yes?

HARD OPTION
The Windows bridging and internet connection sharing generally is a PITA to get working correctly. You can get it going with changing the routing tables and using static IP's but I wouldn't bother. You've indicated the desktop and laptop are "talking" to one another over the wireless link so It sounds like you've got the subnet mask etc setup properly. You've also indicated your desktop PC connects to the internet properly.

On the desktop PC your easiest bet is to download (free) 602Lansuite (there are others like Osiris WinProxy). The 602Lansuite software pretty much just installs and works. On the laptop, you just go to your internet connection settings and put in the IP address of your desktop (the 602Lansuite software tells you this) as the Proxy server. You don't even need to change the gateway to point to your desktop.

http://www.software602.com/products/ls/download.html

Can help you more if you PM me.
If you click on the nice start menu and hit run followed by "CMD" then [enter]
In the nice shiny black box that appears type "ipconfig /all"
Do this on both and tell me the IP's, subnet masks and gateways.

EASIEST OPTION
Better still...don't be such a kiwi...sorry...tightarse. Piggy backing the laptop thru the desktop PC is more bother than it's worth. Been there, done that (I'm Scotch so just as tightarsed). If the desktop PC @$cks up or loses it's settings it's start from scratch time again. Buy a D-Link 604T (wifi modem/router) for a measly 180 bucks and sell the 302 on Trademe. Hell, you'll also be able to sell the PCI wifi card you've put in your desktop PC too!
Other advantages like proper wifi security, easier pigeonholing, better signal, etc etc.

SLIGHTLY CHEAPER BUT STILL EASY OPTION
Alternatively, piggy back a sub 100 dollar TP-LINK wireless router (not a modem) onto your 302G...you'll have to use wireless internet on the PC and the laptop if you choose this option (unless you spend an extra 25 bucks on a 5 port switched router). You'll end up with 2 or 3 boxes tho..

connect the laptop directly to the dlink modem, if that works then maybe something to do with the network key setup.

i hate wireless

How many beers did you drink last night before trying to get computers to talk to each other? Have you tried fixing the problem when sober?

I find that helps

Fuck that... just get a wireless access point and hook it up to the D-Link. You can get a Belkin one for like $100 tops. Much easier, and takes a lot of load off of the laptop that would otherwise have to route all your internet traffic as well.

I'm not running an internet cafe bro, I just want to be able to share the internet connection from my desktop (or floor top as it is) with the craptop.

Not rocket science and not worth 4 tanks of gas or 5 boxes of piss and more electronic crap that will end up in a box in a year or two.

Get one of those... plug the ethernet cable from the 302G into that, as well as the ethernet cables from both machines. Presto. Done.

Sed it already. He's trying to piggyback his laptop through the desktop. Routing internet traffic creates almost zero load BTW (and if it's used as a proxy server it'll make repeat downloads quicker and save some bandwidth usage)

Wonder how he got on?

Hmm...

What about power consumption and general ease of use.

Having to have two computers on just to connect to the net seems a bit weird.

And also, if she's getting suspicious she can cut off your porn supply easy as anything :gob:

Read my original post will yer, I suggested he gets a wifi adsl modem. And while you're at it, read my 2nd post. She can't cut off his porn supply as she's going through his computer not the other way around.
