Im having trouble tracking an engine down. Does anyone have, or know anyone that has one for sale?

Check out turners crashed bike auctions. TLS get written off all the time. Should be able to pick up a well crashed one for $2000-3000

Thanks guys. Have checked out turners online but there is bugger all there. Do they not list everything?

Sadly, when i contacted corsa yesterday i was told they had only just recently sold the tls, and a tlr motor. I had asked gphonda about a tls motor, but didnt ask about a tlr motor, so just emailed them.

Ask corsa if he can get one imported, if you bike still goes it wont matter if you gotta wait a month.

Got your PM but have no leads.I buy all my parts direct out of the U.S.It would probably be cheaper to find a incomplete bike and break it for the engine,parting the rest out.I would think here you will get little change out of $2500 for an engine.

If you find one here at some dealer/wrecker..get a 1999 and up TLS or TLR for the reasons mentioned in your other thread.They have the upgraded parts...I would not touch one from a wrecker/importer without a minimum 3 month guarantee.

Either way, the engine is heading over to masterton tomorrow to be checked out, who knows, maybe its not that bad :sick:

I hope is is something simple.The posts i put in your other thread were TL only related.I think if you have read enough about the crank problems on the Internet most have said..knocking and partial seizure,game over,an all or nothing type of thing.There have been posts where folk have simply been hammering down the highway at speed and lost a conrod bearing.
I think part of the problem might be oil getting into the airbox from the vent, it then goes down the front throttlebody,the cylinder starts to detonate and hammers the bearing.I think Suzuki were aware of the problem,they tried a bandaid repair in 1999 on the TLS by reducing the bearing clearance to the same as the TLR.I think Speedmedic might have lost an engine on his TLR when he had it so it is not just a TLS thing.The flipside is there are other folk who have done big mileages on TLS's/TLR's with no problems,one other cause besides the gearbox airrating the oil might be inconsistent bearing shell thickness's so the colour coding is out.If you were to rebuild,measure the clearances,do not take the colour codes and crank journal letter markings as gospel.

The chap im taking the engine to tomorrow has experience with the tl engines, so hopefully he will be able to sort something out.
I will keep you posted. I should know mid next week what the internals are like.

I had read about the possibility of oil running into the front cylinder, but there is no trace of anything in the throttle bodies, they are as clean as a whistle.

You won't see any in the throttlebody,It is normally noticable if you have the airbox lid off and look to the front or you look up into the front hole of the airbox,the oil will normally be on the inner roof.As a rule that is why most people run the oil level midway on the site glass,run it full and anything much above cruising will start to put it in the airbox.From 98 the TLS had the hose off the rear valve cover down to a small plastic oil seperator with one hose hooking to the case for a drain (The point the 97 uses to go up to the airbox) and another going up to the airbox.

The 97 TLS has a simple hose coming off the centre of the Vee running up to the airbox...When i asked 97 TLS owners on TLZone which way the flow was out of curiosity,some said flowing out,others said flow going in ???..So it got a little confusing including if they had the reedvalve inside the case as a checkvalve.

I would like to get atleast one spare crankshaft for spares at some stage to go with my three spare TLR gearbox's.

Hopefully the news will not be all bad.
