yeeh hah!

passed my Commercial Pilot's Licence today. I'm so happy :)

all those complaining about how hard the restricted or full bike licence is, try sitting a 90 minute practical after 30 minutes of written and oral, and you could fail at any time in that 2 hours....but you only find out at the end of it.

i'm exhausted.

Can you fly commercial immediately or do you have to put in 85 million hours to complete it?

He can charge ya for a flight instead of you paying him $180 for a newspaper. Otherwise theres things like multi engine rating, gas turbine rating, more than 25 seat rating, shag the airhostess in the spa bath rating, etc etc etc.....

Far as I know, you still can't charge for a flight unless you're flying for a registered air transport organisation.

Congratulations Marty.

I have my PPL flight test on Thursday, getting quite nervous now, although it won't be anywhere near as bad as a CPL flight test.

made 1 mistake - went down to 300ft indicated instead of 300ft agl when descending into the low flying area. other than that it was just serious concentration for the solid 2 hours.

back to flying the pitts now :)

What was the ground elevation?

Low flying area that we use is over water, so I won't have to worry about that.

marty
4th September 2006, 20:41
about 170-180ft. flying low over the ocean is a lot easier than low over the gound - crosswind has much more impression when you're 50' over a line of trees, plus there's thermals and rotor action and the ground to worry about. precautionary landings and glide approach/landings are a lot easier too :)
don't you guys use the pokeno paddocks?

I fly with the Aviation Sports Club (Power Section) at Whenuapai.

We use the Kaipara Harbour LFA.

Good stuff man! :)

How much did it all cost then?

marty
5th September 2006, 19:28
around $40k, but i've picked up a multi rating, pitts rating, cub rating, C152/172/180, archer, arrow, the new alpha, plus aeros rating, night rating, and plenty of x country hours.

terbang
5th September 2006, 19:40
Yes I have met him. Nice guy.

Here is some low flying at night that may interest you. Dunno what height it was there but we used to do it down to 200', AGL of course.. Mainly over the sea but when required, inshore as well..!

marty
5th September 2006, 20:06
cool flying that coastal patrol. FLIR is almost even cooler. i'd love to get into that for a few years.

Take it easy

I just passed my PPL flight test.

Marty: you recommend getting an aerobatics rating?

wildpudding
7th September 2006, 15:31
Good work Michealt, I would recommend getting an aerobatics rating if you have the chance, I've almost finished mine, been working on it over the last month or so in a c152 aerobat. You become heaps more confident flying fast/slow, in strange attitudes and in pushing the plane further than you would normally.

Now only if I can work out a way to get a cheap flight in something like a Pitts Special...(cough Marty cough...:))

yeah go for the aeros rating. do it somewhere intensive like north shore, or better, go to ardmore and track down the citabria flown by wombat35 from www.pprune.com - he instructs aeros and tailwheel in his areoplane, and from all accounts is a great guy.

awesome effort on the pass btw

We have an AESL AIRTOURER T6 with a 160hp Lycoming in it at Whenuapai , seems to be a fairly capable craft, and probably cheaper than anything at North Shore or Ardmore.

i was suggesting it's not the plane - more the instructor - that will make the difference.

Well there's a few aerobatic instructors at Whenuapai that seem to be quite good, I've flown with most of them as part of my PPL training (no aerobatics though). I'll try them and if that doesn't work too well I'll look around, don't think I'll need to though.

Also, there was, maybe still is, an agreement with North Shore for share of the airtourer, so I could probably use their instructors if I needed to.

Hmm, has it been there for quite a few years?
I might have done an aero's session in it quite some time back. The pilot claimed he had a maneuvre "guaranteed to make you puke"... Who could refuse?
What a LAME excuse for a bet. It was pathetic. A good flight experience however!

It's been there as long as I've been there, which is since July last year. Probably been there longer than that, but I wouldn't really know.

an inverted spin, or multiple snap rolls, or the worst of all, the forward tumble - they'll all make you pretty unwell, but numerous 5g pullouts and push over loops will do it pretty quickly too

Looks like I'm going to do it at North Shore as I can't get an aerobatics rating through Whenuapai.

Probably going to do it in the C152A, as it's cheaper, although I could use the airtourer and an instructor from North Shore.

Thinking about doing a tailwheel C150 rating down at Mercer as well.
