.....fell off his bike today :shit:

A d!ckhe@d in a 4wd pulled out infront of him without indicating or looking and forced him to brake hard. Back wheel locked up and slid sideways (very wet road) and off he came :( Thank God the traffic was only doing about 30kph at the time.

The tosser in the 4wd didn't stop, didn't even know what he'd done :tugger:

Broken indicator, broken handbrake lever, bent handlebars, badly bruised hubby - but other than that, not too bad all things considered.

Many thanks to the guy in the car behind him who did actually stop and help him up. He said that if Dave hadn't been in the way, he would have hit him instead, that was how little space the 4wd had allowed for his move over. My second question to Dave (after 'oh hell, are you OK?') was 'were you lane splitting?' - but no, he was actually in his own lane at the time!! Bless him, he didn't tell me til this afternoon after I'd had my 6R test!

Why do some people think they are the only ones on the road??? Gets me so p!ssed off :angry2:

No, unfortunately - good job really cos I'd be finding out where the jerk lives and giving him what for right now....

Even if we did have a number plate and reported him for dangerous driving, there's nothing the cops will do, aside sending the guy a letter. It's not an insurance claim (not enough damage to warrant losing the no claims bonus).

I just thank heavens he's OK. His elbow is pretty knocked around but the doc says it's not broken, just bruised.

Suburban 4WD's - they are bought by people who can't drive so they don't need to learn but can safely roam the cities killing people indiscriminately.

4WD vehicles are for farmers and country people who need them for the work and travel they do - there is no justification for having them in cities - I vote we have barriers at the edge of city limits banning entry to off road tanks except where the driver can prove they are indeed a farmer and have no road going vehicles available.

Glad he's not seriously hurt.

I've calmed down a bit now.

Kinda good - only in that it wasn't me... dropped my hilux off for some work and it's hard to get back into the flow sometimes (I feel all guilty...:nono: )

McJim I use mine for offroading and trips. We have a little car for around town.

Nah m8, I'd be surprised if it was a biker - I don't know about anyone else, but I've found that since learning to ride a bike, I've become a better driver. A lot more aware of what's going on around me and definitely aware of the need to do head checks.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes for him - it's a real minor off and he's a tough cookie, but it's still a shock. I've got to work late tonight too, so I'll not be happy til I can get home and see the damage for myself (hubby, not bike - not @rsed about the bike!!)

If you had his plate it would be insurance but HIS that was being sought after by your insurance company.

You dont pay excess when your not at fault and teh other party is known.

No, you're right - that's asuming the other party was insured.

But he was disorientated at the time and unfortunately he didn't even get the details of the witness. Bit annoying, but it's only an old GN so it's not going to be HUGELY expensive.

And the government is a great employer so if he has to take a few days off, we won't lose any pay.

Still a bugger tho. I'm just glad he's OK. It really makes you think.

Yeah, on my ride home tonight I was alongside a guy who was texting as he was driving - he was all over the road... I dropped back when I saw what he was up to, just to give myself some space if I needed it - then as soon as there was a gap, I got past him sharpish!!

Riding a bike really does sharpen your understanding of how alert you need to be with regard to the road and other road users - and that carries through when you get into the car. It does for me now anyway.

He's a bit sorry for himself tonight and his elbow is rather large and spongey - he'll be fine tho.

Now we're trying to source even more parts for his bike than we were before his accident (anyone got any straight GN250 handlebars they don't need?! LOL)

I’m sure some people out there just use rear vision mirrors just for checking there hair. My mother got dinged the other day the same way. This darned cowboy came over to her lane and dinged the side or her car, at least this guy stopped. Wished I’d been there, she beats people up just with her eyeballs….

Hope hubby gets well quickly.

If we had a list of all of these types of incidents where cagers etc just drive away oblivious of the damage they have caused to motorcyclists it would be pretty long and that's just the ones on KB!

This is perhaps the sort of information we should be gathering for the guys that are trying to revive "BRONZ" so that they can wake up the LTSA! :shit: John.

There's no way the 2 of us would fit on one piddly GN! I've seen it done, but only with those very very tiny people that do exist out there. We, sadly, are not that lucky!

No, he's off work today and probably tomorrow and then we'll be driving until the bike's fixed. Could be a while :( Getting 2nd hand parts is not as easy as it sounds, and new parts are sooooo expensive :(

Ah ha, I told you Asians (all Heinze 52 varieties) had a sense of humour!! Living proof!
Too many PC attitudes expressed in defence, are actually "patronising" toward the people they are trying to defend!
That is the way BNZ's comments to Motu came across as, to me! :shit:

That's just my opinion and everybody should be free to express their own.
I defend BNZ's right to his own perception for that is his reality but so too is Motu's.
gijo1313 typifies my perception of most of the Asians I have had anything to do with.
Now back to the Hubby theme of the thread, hope things are on the improve! Cheers John.

Perhaps the GC next year as it will be a worthy celebration of my 60th birthday which is within a couple of days of aforesaid event.

Yeah, tell me about it. I was adamant we were taking him to hospital the day after it happened cos the pain was so bad, but he was adamant I wasn't a doctor and he'd see how he went...**sigh** (menfolk.....they drive me mad at times!!!)

The medical centre the Navy have a contract with here in Wellington really isn't that crash hot and I definitely feel he gets lesser care under them than at the Navy hospital he's just been to in Auckland. They said he should have been xrayed right away too......

Ah well, not a lot we can do - the damage is done, the Navy will pick up the tab, ACC get off lightly, the medical centre get their fee for doing sweet fanny-adams and everyone's happy....'cept Dave who's having an op and me who's fuming even more than I was when the tosser in the 4wd caused him to come off!

dads just had knee surgery little over a week ago. he did the lawns in the weekend, was up and down off chairs putting stuff on the walls, and up and down off the floor going through his books. and then he wonders why it hurts?? yeesh...both me and mum nagging him to sit down, he refuses to listen.

but take heart...when i came off my bike, i was determined i was going to work. pity for me, they actually took an xray and chucked me in a cast...all cos of a hair on the lens. they ignored my other leg, which is giving me grief whenever i kneel for too long.

No, nobody got his number. He didn't actually hit him, just pulled out in front of him so close (and without indicating) that Dave had to brake really quickly, the back wheel locked up and on a wet road everything slid to the side and the bike threw him off.

:(

We'll know more about his op on Monday when he goes to see the doc down here. Altho given the care he's received up to this point I'd almost rather he went back North for the op - even if it means me driving up there to get him afterwards! (that's not a Welly bashing comment, just a total vote of no confidence in the doctors the Navy has their contract with)
