Peter Brock 'killed in crash'
08 September 2006
BREAKING NEWS - 5.25pm
Motor racing champion Peter Brock has reportedly been killed in an accident in Western Australia.
A car competing in the Targa West rally crashed into a tree at Gidgegannup about 30 kilometres north-east of Perth about 12pm, a Western Australia police spokesman told smh.com.au.
The car was carrying two people and one had died in the crash, he said.
The major crash investigation unit was at the scene, he said.
He said he could not confirm the driver was Mr Brock, although that he is being broadcast on Sky News.

Yup - ms beemers (no so whose quote is it?) 'better to be a tiger for a day' quote sums them up for me.
I said in another forum re Irwin - if I ever 'buy the farm' on a motorbike I hope people don't get too out of shape.
Just say he knew the risks - was doing what he wanted most - so it's 'a life well lived'.

Yeah - for what is there I agree - the final lay won't look much like that - that's only a 5 minute 'ruff' (one of 4) to show my client the type of thing I have in mind - have to add boots helmets as well before working out how it will all fit and remain legible.

Must've been before he left his wife for his good 'mate' and neighbours wife then eh?
I was in Melbourne when his 'mate' went to court and got charged for assault for giving Peter Perfect the bash.
A great driver for sure.
Hell, my father worked for the General for 38 years and was treated to a demo by Brock himself in an SLR5000, my mother nearly wet herself when in the same car.
But a true 'Gentleman' doesn't leave a wife of god knows how many years because he's got the 'hots' for his mates wife.

Last week I would have agreed. The more i read about Irwin, his work in conservation and the esteem he was held in by those that knew him...I dunno.
And remember the energy polarizer?
What is uncanny is the two direct hits that killed them - the only part of 05's car damaged is the drivers seat and door - same as if the ray had not got irwin directly in the heart.

the corner is on o'brien's road --- a public road yes, one of the few 'mental' roads we have here [narrow, twisted, bad surface, reputedly occasionally boobytrapped by locals, with honkey nuts and other crap on road, etc] the corner concerned has claimed 8 motorcyclists so far and is downhill, tightening and curiously-cambered partway through ....... also greasy from recent downpours after months of very little rain and above average temperature
all competitors were given the opportunity to view the course ---- Brocky got in late and didn't bother
i'm sure that 99 times out of 100 all the experience he had would have carried him through anyway --------- this time it didn't.

insofar as the remarks on here about his sexual wanderings are concerned, will someone please tell me what bearing his private life [no matter HOW remiss and lamentable] has on his skill as a driver?

Thanks for the local insight, I agree but I find most of the Aussie outback roads are horrendous! NArrow seal, broken shoulders, have to put two wheels, (car), over the edge to pass an oncoming car. We think NZ roads are second rate, but they're cream compared to Aus!

Relative - the national Hwy system is superior - there are 5 times as many taxpayers to fund it.
The outback is just what it is. Also the Aus roads themselves are less likely to betray you with looses seal and shiny tar because of the way they are hot-mixed rather than chip-sealed.

That's funny, cause Jimbo says that too but I disagree. I've seen nothing in the North Island to compare with the roads from South of Sydney down to Melbourne such as Kangaroo Valley, Clyde and Brown Mountains, Snowy Mountain Highway, Cann River to name but a few.
But then I haven't done the South Island yet so probably shouldn't comment.

Its all nasty quartz chip seal out here - pretty grippy actually, but the thought of coming off and sliding is not an option - I reckon leather would last about 3 meters! And yes - we have shiny tar. No loose metal as such, but, with the gravel verges and 4x4 s cutting corners, there is enough loose stuff to make it interesting......
