All a spark arrestor does is stop sparks coming out the tail pipe, simple as that!

Anything will do, i've seen bikes with (fine)wire mesh hose clipped around 2 stroke tailpipes.

The usual test for checking is by shoving a long screwdriver down the tail pipe & should not be a clear path.

Not sure you can buy one as such (for 2 stroke) unless you buy an aftermarket pipe. I know most 4 stroke pipes come with them, my Pro Circuit T4 did and is removable for MX etc

I've not found I get checked for it but summer could be different story, you won't need one on MX tracks.

Hope this helps.

I cant recall exactly when someone last checked my bike for a spark arrestor, but it was at least 10 years ago. No one checks anymore.

You can buy an fmf turbine core muffler, whick works by spinning the exhaust gases, causing any hot debris to be thrown to the sides of the muffler and captured in ridges. A length of wire can be poked straight up one of these as there is no restrictive mesh, but they are US Forestry Service approved. They are very solid, I like them and have had them on two of my old bikes (rm125 & cr250).

Around AK, both Waitemata Motorcycle Club and Greg Power Adventures have got noise meters to try to discourage loud bikes.

Just make sure your cr's standard muffler is well packed and you'll be fine.
If you havent repacked it, you should do so.
If you dunno how, just ask.

sweet cheers guys, ive been racing for years, so've got repacking etc sorted, just some mates have recently got bikes and are keen to go do some trail rides, but everything seems pretty unclear.

ive got a FMF gold series fatty up front with a powercore II at the rear, so theres no spark arresting going on there, and my mate with the XR got the bike with baffles removed, so im guessing theres no spark arresting there either,

my plan now - if we need them, is to get a bit of fly-screen type mesh, and a large hose clamp to clamp it over the tail pipe.

cheers for your help
