BIKeFEST
14-15 OCTOBER 2006
hanmer springs

Press Release: Bikefest “The Bikers Rally” just keeps getting better with the introduction of a new party location. “The original location of the Hanmer Domain was good but too many restrictions were put on us by Police and local authorities” said event director Craig Douglas of Full Throttle Events. We have moved the evening function to a location just out of the township which in turn will allow us to start the party earlier and finish later. The venue situated outside the Hanmer Township and with 14 acres the team at Full Throttle plans to host the mother of all parties. Free courtesy buses will be put on from the township to the Bikefest compound and will return from the compound every hour.

The Bikefest Party will open its gates at 4pm (unless you are camping on-site) and to welcome all the Bikefest revelers will be Christchurch rock band Hefner, freestyle motoX riders will jump the 75 foot stage and dinner will be served between 6 and 7pm. After dinner will see some very beautiful women compete for the title of Miss Bikefest in a “Bikini Jam”, more freestyle motoX by the Jim Beam FMX team and more live music. A burnout pad will provide those with too much tread on their tyres a chance to wear them down a little and tyre changing facilities should be available for re-fits. The Bikefest Bar will provide beer, Jim Beam, wine and a range of non alcoholic beverages. Due to a total glass ban their will be no BYO and bar prices will be kept to a realistic minimum.

A secure 6foot high fenced compound will be built to house any motorcycles that need to be left overnight and a free bus will return you to your motorcycle in the morning. This compound will have overnight security.

Overnight camping will be available on Friday and Saturday inside the Bikefest compound for $10 per person but bookings are essential as limited room is available.

Trail ride: The trail ride loop is all but completed and we must say that it is a good one. The team at Full Throttle Bikefest has teamed up with trail ride expert Richie Morgan and the Hanmer Adventure Centre to access some of the best dirt bike land available. The High Country farmland and forestry circuit will stretch an impressive 42km and will include a children’s circuit, medium course and a gnarly expert loop. Something for everyone. Bikes do not have to be registered and standard safety equipment will be required. Lunch will be served to pre-registered riders between 12-1pm. You can do as many loops as you can handle. The same or a different trail will be available on Sunday.

Road Riders: Gathering in Christchurch’s’ Cathedral Square from 10am Saturday for all the public to view, riders will leave Christchurch at 12pm and after a lap around Christchurch’s Hagley Park you will weave your way up to the Hurunui Hotel where you will be fed, watered and entertained by live entertainer “The Blindstoned Cowboy”. Regrouping at 2.30pm to continue the convoy to Hanmer where you can relax and settle into your accommodation, or pitch a tent at the Bikefest compound, before enjoying the festivities of the evening. If you choose to bring your motorcycle to the Bikefest party we will have a secure overnight lockup with a strict in and out registration system.

Sunday: After you have recovered from the night before the trail riders may attack the dirt again while the road bikers take part in the Hanmer Bikefest Show ‘N’ Shine. A bike show for the whole family including entertainment, food, exhibitors, freestyle motoX and 800+ motorcycles in a carnival style atmosphere. Free exhibition space is available.

Special Guests at Bikefest: Yes the rumours have been true; the team here at Full Throttle has been in discussions with Orange County Choppers. We have been trying to secure a visit from the two brothers Mikey and Pauly Jr. from the TV hit series American Chopper, we have a verbal confirmation that they want to come to NZ for an all expenses paid trip and be our guests at Bikefest but the one issue surrounding their visitation is Daytona Bike Week that happens just 4 days after Bikefest in NZ - and it will depend entirely on their work schedule. Let’s not hold our breath as we have to make a decision on their flights very soon so we will keep you posted.

Camp Sites: You can book a camp site inside the BikeFest compound for only $10 per night. There are no shower blocks but toilets will be available. I have attached a copy of the site plan

To get a registration form or more info ask at any motorcycle shop or go to www.fullthrottle.biz If you are a motorcycle shop and want registration forms, poster or flyers e-mail us with your address at events@fullthrottle.biz

Love to go. Unfortunately grand-daughter number 1 is due to make her debut on the world stage (oh feck ... I mean she's scheduled to be born) on 12 October so I don't think I'll be making any plans for about then. Still. Could do the ride around Ch I suppose and pretend we're going.

Well just in case I gave the wrong idea.
I was just asking and letting people know about the event.

I don't think that we/I'm going as well, it sounds to commercial for me/us.
But should be a good weekend for anyone that is in to that sort of thing.
And I would just prefer to do a trail ride and go home for 1/2 the price as it's only 1 hour away.

And I would just prefer to do a trail ride and go home for 1/2 the price as it's only 1 hour away.Which is one of the reasons why I'm not going. The Canterbury Rides adventure ride is the following weekend at a fraction of the price, and the Nelson rally is 2 weeks after that, also at a fraction of the price and I get to create my own adventure ride there and back.

I'm not knocking it, I'm sure those that go will enjoy themselves, but I can get bigger bang for the buck in other ways.

Sorry if this contains repeated stuff, but this is the email they sent KB (just in case there is any aditional info):

Take 800 motorcycles, 1500 party goers, a live band, Freestyle MotoX, a bikini and burn-out comp, put them into Hanmer Springs for 2 days and you have the first ever Bikefest festival.

Held annually Full Throttle Events is in the planning stages of one of the South Island’s largest biker gatherings and expects it to be an instant sell-out. Four separate events over 2 days will attract thousands of party and bike lovers from all over the country. Depending on what type of bike you have, choose from:

A Trail Ride: On Saturday 14th October, a 5 hour ride for the dirt bikers will take them into the hills of Hanmer with lunch provided in a surprise location before remounting their beasts and returning to Hanmer Springs. Another 3-hour trail ride will be offered on the Sunday taking riders to never ridden before locations and some of the best dirt bike country in the world.

A Road Ride: On Saturday 14th October, depart from Christchurch’s Cathedral Square where Harley Davidsons, classics, exotics and Japas will gather before leaving on a 3 hour journey to Hanmer with a lunch stop at the Hurunui Hotel. A separate marketing campaign will encourage the public to come see the gathering of bikes before they leave Cathedral Square at 12pm.

The Party: For everyone after they complete their respective rides, the location is the Hanmer Springs Domain from 6-late and the Bikefest party will be one to remember and will include a live band, Freestyle MotoX, bikini comp, burn-out comp and a fully licenced Bikefest Bar.

Bikefest Show: Sunday from 9am – 3pm will see a gathering of 700+ Harley Davidsons, classic and exotic motorcycles displayed in the main street of Hanmer. A proposed road closure will ensure the public can get up close and personal to both the bikes and the riders who ride them. The Bikefest Show will have a carnival style atmosphere with more freestyle motoX from the Full Throttle FMX team, trade displays, apparel and plenty for the whole family. The Bikefest show will be backed up with a hard hitting marketing campaign to ensure the Bikefest show has all the spectators Hanmer can handle.

Initial discussions with both the Hurunui District Council and business community of Hanmer have been very successful said Full Throttle Events managing director Craig Douglas. “I am very excited with the response I got from the council and different business owners”. I think everyone will benefit from bringing Bikefest to Hanmer.

Tickets to Bikefest 14-15 October 2006 will cost $90 and be limited to 1000. Ticket cost will include lunches, dinner, entry into all rides and party tickets. Enquires and registrations for Bikefest can be e-mailed to events@fullthrottle.biz or visit www.fullthrottle.biz. Further enquires can be made to Full Throttle Events on 03-338-1955.

$90 !!!!!!! to ride to hanmer, get lunch and dinner, and a ticket to the party? Even still have to pay for accomodation on top of that?!
Gee sounds like a bloody ripoff...no offense to those who organised it but honestly $90?
I was looking for details after seeing a poster recently, was thinking of tagging along for the ride and not stay the night....but I think $90 is way OTT.

Will be doing the nelson one a few weeks later tho ;)

I'm just going up for the ride. Closer to time maybe those here might like to meet prior to going to the square. Could be difficult in meeting up otherwise. If this is going to be a formation ride then I'm not realy interested and will stay with the sportsbikes.

Here is the latest that was sent through to KB:

Hello Bikers.

The Bikefest trailride loop is all finished and what a beauty. Richie Morgan has done a superb job of building one of the best trail rides I have ever ridden. The 42km loop will take you into the hills of Hanmer with brand new graded tracks. Hill climbs galore and you’ll also get to see some of the most awesome dirtbike country possible.

Attached are the details of the ride and you can choose to do one day or stay the night and do both days. Many riders have requested just to ride on the Sunday so we have given you the options. The loop will open from 9.30am and we must close it at 2.30pm so we can get all the riders off the hills safely. There is a children’s loop, Intermediate and Enduro loop.

Bikefest is also a complete weekend of motorcycle activity and the Bikefest party starts from 4pm just down the road where you can expect to see 2 of the best Freestyle MotoX riders from Europe and Australia performing throughout the night. The Bikefest party also has live bands, food, a bikini jam, bar, Burn-out pad, and if you feel like stay’n the night you can set up a tent and stay the night.

The next day will be more trail riding and a Show ‘n’ Shine bike show in the main street of Hanmer. The Hot pools will be open and we are trying to get a free pass for every Bikefester. Loads for the whole family.

edit from Joni - The attachment he mentions does not work so I cant post it... but Im sure you can contact them if you are interested.

I think your right in thinking it's the same people and for heavens sake don't give them your email address. They are bombarding one of my addresses with their Adds and/or flyers almost every day now. It's been getting worse the closer to the event we get.

More to the point.

DON'T GIVE THEM ANYONE ELSES ADDRESS.

Just because you could possibly win some gear ain't know excuse to sign other people up for SPAM.

Not sure who did it. But it says a lot about the belief this company has in their "product" that they feel the need to spam people in order to try and get tickets sold.
