I drove through Foxton yesterday and noticed that the 70kph speed limit sign at the southern end was now 50. I thought perhaps I'd misread it but when I got to the second 50 sign (about opposite the John Deere shop) I checked in my rear view mirror and it said 50 on the other side too. Looks like it has been quietly changed, so if like me you are used to doing 70 along there, watch out you don't get a ticket.

It looks as though they may be planning to remove the 70kph one at the northern end by the Mobil staion too. The signs are still up but I noticed the painted signs on the road had been blacked out. You can still read them but not clearly.

Funny how they do this and don't put up signs warning that the speed limit has been changed. I drove through there last Wednesday and I didn't notice the 50kph signs then.

I think it's getting to the stage where there will be two main speed limits - 100kph (if we're lucky) on the open road and 50kph anywhere else.

Had to go to Wanganui for an army exercise yesterday and must confess I didn't see many cops - on patrolling the road between Bulls and Wanganui about 10pm and that was pretty much it. But I bet there will be a strategically placed speed camera van in Foxton in the near future!
