Honda Bros 650 (NT650)

Hey guys, long time no see... I've not been on the site for ages. Last post in May according to my page, but better late than never I guess!

Anyway, been offered a 1988 Honda NT650 (Bros) by a mate for $2k. Done just under 50,000 km, in black, good nick, but in Palmy North. Anyway, anyone on here got or had one? What do you think of it? Still on my restricted, but I'll keep the NZ250 anyway until I can use it to get my full. Also some pics of similar bikes would be nice. :)

Advice? Notable bad stuff that happens to them? Good stuff about them? Thanks guys :cool:

I have the 400 cc version of this bike which basicly the same bike except its sleved down and rejetted

Ive had no trouble with my bike the only moan I have is the 13ltr tank
They are very fussy about servicing espically oil and filter

google hawk gt and you'll find heaps of sites with photos there is even an on line parts fiche

The bros/hawk gt has big following overseas.

Got one as a loaner from a shop,and was pleasantly surprised ,looked like a 250 sounded like a 250 , but it did very well with my fat arse on it ( does this bike make my arse look fat). Only complaint is the the tanks too small , quite nimble in traffic too. But otherwise heaps of fun.2K sounds pretty good.

From what I've seen riding with one the 400 is fast for its size and I presume the 650 is better. I'd say buy it. Has anyone tried Econohonda for parts for these - I presume Malcolm can get what any one needs for them.

Bros 650's are great bikes, talk to Ducatilover, I think he's got (or had one).

I rode a 400 once as well, lovely bike to ride with reasonable grunt too.
They look nice with the s/s/ swingarm.

I had the NTV650M Revere shaft drive. Had it for 14 years and it never put a tyre wrong (119k clicks). A work mate bought it off me and he loves it.

It's a good bike. Handles well, is very thrashable, quite comfy etc.

As said earlier, the small tank is about the biggest flaw of the bike...

If you feel like modifying and fettling, you won't find a more versatile bike to play with either...

Thanks for the responses, all sounds pretty positive. Surprised noone's spouted something about Hondas being gay yet though - unless there's been a major change of heart on the site? :dodge:

Hey Chris, how's things? Good to see you're still here. Yeah the NZ's humming along nicely, I've been taking good care of her. Got me through my restricted test (flew through it comfortably), it's registered, warranted, and still shiny to boot! It fell off its stand the other day due to soft ground. The only damage was the clutch lever which broke clean in two at the base, but before the end of the day I'd sourced a replacement ($20) and fitted it, good as new! :cool:

The smallish petrol tank isn't going to be too much of an issue, as I'm used to only getting 8 litres worth out of my NZ, which usually means 170 - 200km depending on whether I'm mainly commuting or not. But then, most of what I've used the bike for lately is commuting...

Thanks for the response Hawk, if you're not doing much we could catch up and go for a cruise if you're keen. I'd also like a play on your bike, but I'm well aware that not many people are keen on that kind of thing... that and you don't know me from a bar of soap at this stage... :innocent:

All in all though sounds pretty good to me. Now, how the hell do I get past it being in Palmy North... :pinch:

Good bikes IMHO. Honda or not, they are pretty bullet proof. I would have it checked out dude regardless of it being a mates bike or not.
