Ok I have a mighty GN-250 does me well for its purpose. After buying the bike I ditched the stock standard Ginny front for something with some grip.

Recently I have noticed an occassional knock being transmitted through the handle bars. Took it to a mechanic today as I suspected it was a warped disc to my horror only to be told that it appears that both the rim and disc are bent!

The only time I can think where anything could have happened to this rim was when the shop took the old tyre off and put on the new one. But how can one prove it.

Priced a Ginny rim today and was gobsmacked when I was told they are $660 new!

Now my question is:

Can a rim be straightened? If so where can I take it

or

Where can I find a good secondhand one?

While you're waiting for someone who knows what they're talking about to come along...

A rim can be straightened by someone with the right skills and equipment. I paid to have my NC35 front rim jigged after a crash, put 1000s of Ks on it afterwards with no problem. But it does depend on the nature of the damage done. Sounds like yours might be repairable. Discs, AFAIK, "should not" be straightened. You might save money buying a pattern one.

Rims are easy, just find a shop that specialises in alloy wheel repairs. The disc is FUBR though.

Might take you up on that offer

Its really weird as mechanic that looked at it took off the caliper etc and you can see a slight scratch which appears to be where the disc is hitting the caliper. Since then the knock is worse.

I can't see how this is possible as the caliper is fixed and cant be moved?

Its definelty not damage from the previous owner as I have had the bike a few months now and knock has only just developed.

Thanks for the help guys.

Took my bike to Kerry at Motohaus today who checked it over for me. Took the caliper apart and found that the gide pins were a bit dry and put a little bit of grease on them...........and what do you know there is no more knocking!

Didn't even charge me for it either although I will drop in a King Size Milky Bar for helping me out
