Welcome to the site Bykey cop! :)

Btw: Marty is an ex :Police: as far as I know and a couple of others would be Mongoose and Nodman.

I got great respect for you guys out there for all the work that you do for the community. Some pricks within the force give you guys a bad name but you guys are just humans and there are always a few bad apples in a bag. Keep up the good work and I really appreciate the input on the site specially from Spud and Marty.

Thanks for the welcome guys... looking forward to being "around" for a while. Happy to help out with any advice if needed - have been doing traffic enforcement for the last 6 years so reasonably up with the play.

Hi and welcome to the site BC! :ride:

Question for you: what is the general attitude in the force towards motorcyclists filtering/lane-splitting traffic, especially on the motorway systems during heavy traffic?

Thanks,

Zed

I can really only speak for myself on this one as I don't work on the motorway. Personally, as long as the traffic was going reasonably slow, I wouldn't have a problem with it... I mean, whats the point in having a bike in peak hour traffic. However, if you use the emergency lane (red chip), and get caught, you are likely to get a ticket. Obviously, each individual must also way up the risks of lane splitting and the speed at which they do it... I've seen car drivers deliberately move over to close out bikes getting through and others just move over without looking.

Welcome, Bikey. It's a fun ol' world here, you'll enjoy the madness.

If you don't mind a question, what the hell is a trafic enforcer doing riding a CBR1100XX?

Is it a case of "Do as I say, not as I do."? :spudwhat:

It's a 1999 model.

That's almost vintage.

Probably struggles to reach the speed limit.

On the starter motor

Good on our police officer fellow riders for having fast bikes...just cause they're fast does'nt mean they need to be ridden fast every where. I'm sure these guys have a few excessive velocity moments when and where appropriate. Thing I've learnt about big grunters like these is that in top gear you can pretty much ride up Everest into a stiff wind while overtaking slower traffic and not risk your life on the wrong side of the road for too long without having to shift down 3 gears and ring their nuts off...

Good to see the :Police: riders here...

Yep, torques what it's all about, my H-D could (most of the time) get by with only three of its five gears.

Why some wise folk insist on living in the deep south, less of just about all bad things. Less traffic, less burgs, less people. More of the good things in life, more open roads, more twisty rides, more Bike rallys. Hell, makes you wunder why people live up North, dont t?

You can read read between lines eh spudchucka, well done!
However the coroner's conclusion could hardly be seen as objective given the amount of variables and therefor contributing factors in this particular accident. But I am sure his final explanation pleased the revenue hungry authorities :bleh:

A newspaper article published on the web hardly gives you the FULL story. You have no idea from what is written in either article why the coroner made his decision. Unless the full coroners report were published I don't think that any comment made here in relation to his decision could be "objective".

You last sentence proves this. :wavey:

But there are reasons for living in a place apart from liking living there.
Given enough time, and enough monkeys banging away on a very large number of typewriters, I could probably come up with one or two.
Eventually.

But I hope I would be back in Christchurch again by the time they'd finished.
