There should be a big KB turnout as well, judging from the talk at Glenorchy. Should be good.

Don't worry GB.
Balclutha isn't so much a community as one great big family.
The gene pool developed a leak years ago and all that's left are a couple of damp patches on the bottom.

Yeah,lol, ya just bitten!

BTW Kaitangata ('Kai') USE to be big - pubs, picture theatre, grand Post Office, banks, Police station, large bus company, railway line going to it, massive coal mine etc.
Now it has a pub, 4-Square, fish&chip shop, panel-beater/garage, heaps of empty houses (and a lot of the used ones are run-down), empty sections everywhere and that's about it....

Oh wot a place, went there for the first time on a bike back around 2000, boootiful!!! Though no tankers to worry about, it was late at night dark, and very dense fog....and BUGS, well the fog and bugs screwed me visor, opened that... and then me glasses were stuffed, I ended up moving along at about 20kph, and my eyelids were working overtime trying to keep my eyes clear...

I rang up the Woodstock Tavern today and made a few enquiries - it turns out (as I suspected) that they have a dining room and a menu. So as its Mrs S and mine wedding anniversay on Sunday we're off to the pub for a feed on the Saturday night. What could be more romantic than a bike rally, a pub, and a bunch of bikers?

Who's keen to join us? Scumdog and Chrissie-bimbo are in, as is Dangerous (when I talked to him last week), who else? The more the merrier.

Before anybody asks, No, I am not shouting anybody anything.

One has to be prepared to read words that have been totally mutilated to understand Dangerese, as in moa camp = motor camp etc.

Of course Dangerese can be very alarming, especially at times when the originator says thing like "we'll stop at Coromandel for lunch" - mental image of a ferkin long ride before lunch, hunger pangs, ferry crossing etc..

But no, Coromandel is Dangerese for Crom'ill, en rout to Q'town...

Hey chaps,

Will see you on the dance grass at the Hoki, this has to be one of my favourite rallies, I had a ripping time there last year.

Am blagging a lift, as my bike is in for some tender loving care, so wont have to put a blanket around it at night and kiss it goodnight, alas.

Some harley drivers took the michael out of me last time, for doing that but I told them I could stop immediately but they would always come from Gore.....ha ha, but they were seriously top chaps, so the banter went down well, at least the bike was still there in the morning and the tent didnt have tyre marks through it.!! Hope they will be at the Hoky run.

Bonus of begging a lift though is the beer that one can drink on the way down and back, Ahar........................

Mr. Sensible, so its your wedding annivesary eh, will be there to at least drink with you at the pub, congrates mate, think your wife is tops, and your a fine chap yourself, (and thats the first and last time I tell ya!) and I look forward to drinking and chatting with you both again.

Right then back to the matter in hand. See you at the rally, old friends and new ones to be made.

"Thats all folks" :done:  :Punk: :stupid:

OK, can someone (different) explain where youall were located last year. We will probably get there in good time and can mark out the spot to aim for. Spose we could wait for the rubble to roll thru Reefton but it is not known for a heap of attractions to fill the day.

If memory serves me there were photos of "the spot" from last year - the grass is probably still dead (goes away to check).

I have a cunning plan.
The weather forecast for Sunday is a bit shitty so I contacted a mate who flies for the helicopter line - he needs to clock some hours in the ex army Iriquouis chapper they use for rescues and heavy lifting.
He has mounts in the back that can take 3 decent sized motorcycles sideways in the chopper with their riders and gear sitting up front.
The plan is to take off from Hokitika and then head to the Franz Joseph glacier, fly up there, around the side of Mt Cook and then drop us down to the Hermitage on the other side - from there we have a great ride home in the dry on those fantastic MacKenzie Country roads.
Anyone interested?? Need 2 more takers - cost a hugely mates rates deal of only $80/head ( the bloody thing costs about $1500/hr to run) because he has to get over to Cook sometime to do a practise with some of the rescue crews there.
Anyone keen?????
Actually, this is my 500th post and to mark it I'd thought I'd just rabbit on with some slightly more creative bullshit than what I usually put down here!!

Unfortunately I won't be at the Hoki rally but hope to catch up with you at the March Hare which everyone says is a great one, and see a few on our Sth Island Passes safari. Safe riding and that weather forecast is looking a lot better even for Sunday than it did on yesterdays forecast, especially for those riders heading South.

Well part of it anyhow. Drove Springs Junction to Chch on Tuesday. Only things to report are a bit of light grit for soft tar in the area of Lewis Pass and road works with traffic lights just north of Culverden (or was that Coromandill??).

Ahhh it was nothing, anoying all the same.

Well then, yet another freaking awesome weekend thanks to you lot.
Headed out of Chch towards the Lewis pass with 10 other bikes and encountered some misty drizzle but thats as bad as the weekend went weather wise. There were some shitty road works on the way talk about mess the bikes up... ahh well it wasn't like I was not going to wash the bikes when I got home anyway.

Lunch was Reefton and my very own pub “Dawsons saloon” it was an great wee spot nice tucker and cold coke... then idb rocked up on the newly refurnished SD Darmah so I took it for a spin, very smooth and for the size/weight of the thing it felt very light to ride... I loved it cheers idb.

The ride into Woodstock was a minter, man the west coast is just sweet on a fine day, just something about it aye.
At the Rally things were reorganised compaired to other years with the back paddock being out of service and the bar, band & food stalls over the rd and up the bank, great idea.

Tea time was at the Woodstock pub, where I had the hugest white bait pattie I have seen... and it even had white bait in it.
Lemans was looking rather cheerful for him and wandered out side, well thats the last most of us saw of him for the day as he promptly fell on his arse and crashed out under a tree... piss head.

Back at the rally and the usual rally shit was going down. The tank display was a flop compaired to last year, not sure what went wrong there. I had a awesome time and even out lasted Scumdog... he wandered back to the camp, hanged his southern donger out in a rather embarressing display for a man of his stature, slashed on the nearest Harley (LOL his) and carked it for the night.

Sunday morn... yip theres that rally morning feeling, packed up buggered off to Hokie for breakie and headed home over Arthurs.
The roads were in the shittiest state I have ever seen them in with some rather bad shingle being used and somewhat deap, worst part was Porters, but it proberly didnt help that it was blowing a gale aswell. But I didnt bother me all adds to the experance of riding.

Now, Im looking forward to some rather revealing photos but for the mean time heres mine.

:Punk: Great time people  as per usual a awesome bunch to be with:rockon: .

After a late start on Saturday & the hills looking a bit dubious weather wise I rocked up towards Arthur's, passing Lemans & SDU on their new MGs :bye: leaving them to tinker along at their own pace.
The roadworks were interesting, Porter's pass in heavy fog & fresh seal wasn't the fun in usually is. Arthur's to Otira wasn't much better. Though both sections of road were much better coming home today.

Got passed by some crazy Ginga waving his arm like helicopter just out of Hoki ( was that to make the Guz go faster D ??) and melted into the motley crew that were following along.

The rally was a goodie, bloody hot to start with (tents were like instant ovens) but ended up a awesome night (pics will tell the story). Rain at 4am was a concern but by the time activity got rolling again things didn't look to bad.
As the Latee' set :bleh: headed into Hoki for brekkie, I shot the gap & headed for the hills nursing a slightly furry head for a nice dry uneventful ride home.

Though for some reason I managed to attract Triumphs both on the way over & heading home  2 rocket3s (one each way) & a speedtriple (heading over), the Rockets were just bloody big nuisences but the Speedtrip was good company :Punk:

Well, Woodstock has done it again - fantastic weather and a great rally - for the 3rd year in a row! One thing that I missed this year and last was the lamb shanks - first one I went to 2 years ago had fantastic lamb shanks with mint sauce, but sadly haven't seen them since.
No one ahs mentioned the fireworks yet, so i will - glorious display, I LOVE FIREWORkS and these ones were pretty good.
The ride over was good, though i couldn't seem to get in the groove properly, but at least the weather and the company were great even if my riding wasn't. Coming home was a different storey - after a fab brekkie in Hoki, I ended up following Gav for a while - I was in the groove, keeping up and feeling good - which is surprising considering how little sleep I ahd! Thank GOD I didn't ahve a hangover! then we got to the road works, I slowed down more than Gav and lost him. What a bugger thse first roadworks were, just enought to put you out of step, then up past the Viaduct we had horrible shingle, I am getting more used to shingle, but I am happier when there is a tyre track to follow, I couldn't find one and got a bit freaked, then nearly ran chick n charge off the road 'cause for some reason she came up beside me just as I decided to get away from the middle of the road! Luckily she could read what i was going to do and got out of my way - sorry about that! The downhill into Arthurs was a nightmare as I was too freaked to ride with any semblance of dignity and knowledge of what I was supposed to be doing! Quick stop and got myself together and off we went, following Thunder this time and going werll untill Porters Pass. So what did we have, my 3 least favourite things all in one go - wind, shingle and down hill! I coped remarkably well, the wind got me a little but i didn't panic and am a little proud of myself - of course the car behind me was hating every second of the 300-40kms an hour I was going!!!! yes I ride like a Nana!
We got home OK, I am a little sunkissed and had a great weekend. early to bed tonight and back to work tomorrow - roll on the March Hare!

Well well well, great ride, people and rally. Don’t have something gone bad around this lot though… it is not quickly forgotten, Rashika russhin over to check my pannier… now why the hell would she think it be loose!!!!!!!
I realy did enjoy the ride, and looking at my bike I think it did to(bags were stuck rock solid to!!!), as the K’s get up the fuel economy is improving, 48.5mpg, which is pretty good up till now I have been only managing around mid to low 40’s.
Nice to get to Reefton to fill the belly, and smell the air of the home town, six fingers and all.
The ride from there to Grey was sweet, though that other Guzz rider, trying to pass/drag on the inside, I was forced to sucome due to the oncoming Big Bucket digger(I find the idea of bucket racing appealing but deff’ not big bucket), and well I did not need the win!!! Lol
The site was awesome…the atmosphere was great, weather was just a bonus.
CONGRATS to the Sensible couple on 23yrs…:first: and great to have that feed at the Woodstock to celebrate (yummy bait). I was at the table with T.W.R and Lemans, Lemans was talking :drinknsin some kinda “hsilgne” It has been a while since I have had cramp in me cheeks from smiling so hard, I still don’t know what shite come from his mouth, but bloody funny. All was explained when he was found under a tree not far from the pub:finger: (thats his finger not mine, you shall see), (vid clip to follow).
:ar15: mmm the tank, I think I missed somthing there.
Hellboy's man hug-lurvin was a worry???
I enjoyed the night fully, apart from some burger I ordered that was not a burger… just two bits of bread with whatever I ordered inside…those fireworks… when they began I thought they were the boombox from The Warehouse, I coulda almost done better smackin a couple of stones together…. But then they did improve pretty smartly, and a good show indeeeed.:Punk:
Lying down to sleep was guurd, waking up was bard. Breaky was gurd, and trip home was nice, even with the stony bits. Sittin at the back or behind someone was not cool, on a couple of the better stretches I had three stones flicked up from someone’s tire, they got one knee, one hand and one right in the middle of me visor (Got me thinking about a headlight protector now):dodge:
Goin across the road rail bridge just outa Hoki, sum fella behind gave the juice (not one of us) poped the wheeeel with partner on back, screamed past, dropped wheel, and instantly got a whollap on the head and a smack on the shoulder… I guess that was a telling off!!!:nono:

ENJOYED THE ENTIRE WEEKEND, LOOKING FORWARD TO THE M-HARE.

A great weekend to top off a great week!! :Punk:

The ride over Arthurs on Friday was rather damp, foggy & a tad too much gravel oriented for my liking... but the cheeky bloody keas at the observation point above the Viaduct made for a very amusing stopover!! Had 4 of the little shytes on my bike at one point!! Things greatly improved in the weather department nearing Kumara, & got to the site just in time for the sun to dissappear for the night..

The site was rather packed for a Fri nite, so scored a good corner pozzy to set up camp. Met up with FREE2B.. excellent to meet ya Glenys, & a couple of my Plains mates & proceeded to have a thoroughly enjoyable evening!!!

Sat saw the head in slightly worse for wear condition :shifty: & the sumwhat 'communal' shower was an interesting affair.. The day (& head) required a quiet cruise round the site checking out the bikes, & tents.. (shopping for a new one, as waking up to a shockingly BRIGHT yellow one isn't a good look the morning after the night before.. I now know how Gizmo feels when he recoils in horror from the .. "bright light.. bright light.. )

Then a leisurely cruise down to Hari Hari for lunch is in order, whereupon the irrefutable look that can only be our beloved SD & CB, pull up to join us for a pint. Back to the site to find that numbers had increased greatly, & the ChCh rabble had arrived. Great putting more faces to names too!

A very enjoyable evening was had catching up with many a familiar face, watching the fireworks display, the non-event that which was the 'tank wars' & dancing till 3am.. also thus being the very last KB'r to eventually hit the sack at 4.30am!!! :Punk: & go to sleep listening to the rain pattering on the tent!! XLNT!!!

Sunday dawned with the weather threatening to close in, & the big decision of which way to go home.. thus ensuring the LEAST amount of water accumulation.. chose to go up the coast, as it had been many a year since I travelled that way on a bike. Waved fairthewell to my Plains mates at Greymouth, & cruised on up to Punakaiki to play 'tourist' for a while. The blowholes weren't up to much, but the scenery was worth the stopover anyway! 1pm ish saw breakfast in Westport, & the fuel topup at the garage saw the wetweather gear unveiled! Rain hit not far out of Westport, & hung round through to The Owen River Pub area, where the roads were then 99% dry from there to home.

Got home to a VERY happy 4 year old  & just in time for the rain to really set in!!!

All in all.. an awesome trip away, & a great way to end the school holidays, in time for 'normality' to set in again...

Well, what a weekend! First time I've been to this rally but had heard how good it was. Left on time at 9.00am Saturday morning, weather overcast, but warm enough. Good cruise, hit a bit of rain around around Culverden we where we regrouped then carried on through the Lewis, roads OK, traffic not to bad apart from a milk tanker and two cars towing friggin sail boats in convoy. Fueled up at Springs Junction and then a short blat to Reefton, first thing I noticed was "Dawsons Saloon" as the name of the bar, Dangerous insisted it was the first time he noticed even though they'd stopped there last year. By now the sun was out and it was certainly warming up. After a great lunch we carried on, including a detour through Greymouth township :innocent: . I was starting to figure out there was a secret code in place, whenever Dangerous pulled over to check on progress and play tail end charlie it really meant pin that throttle! Seemed every time he stopped the group would try out some top end runs, even the girls were getting into the spirit of things as I sat behind chic'n'charge and watched my speedo climb to 180ish and she was still in front, nice!
When we eventually reached the rally site, was suprised how small the paddock seemed, apparently they had charged the setup from previous years, by closing off a lower area, but using a bigger area up further for the bands and bar. We just sorta cruised through the main gate, saw their looked to be a shortage of decent areas so just made camp KB right where we were.
Gotta say this rally seems to be pretty organised, there was a decent ablutions block that still had flushing toilets the following morning, at least half a dozen different caterers on site who provided a good range of food at reasonable prices, and the bar prices of $10 for a half dozen beer was pretty reasonable too. Had a band that started about 4.00 in the afternoon and overall a pretty good atmosphere. The tank display was talked up but turned into a bit of a fizzer. The fireworks display that was put on was bloody impressive, god knows how much that little lot cost!
The weather forecast for Sunday promised thunder, hail, and all sorts of crap, so when I first heard the rain start about 4.15ish on Sunday morning it didnt seem a good sign. Luckily it didnt seem to come to too much, and after getting up 6.30 it seemed we might have struck it lucky.
Of more concern was that everyone we spoke to who had come over the Arthurs Pass warned us about the diabolical road conditions , some even suggesting that we should go home the way we came, ie via the Lewis Pass.
Think Dangerous muttered something about "character building" so over Arthurs Pass it was then...after we had a great feed in Hoki.
First time I'd ridden that road, and its a great ride, just the thought about these dreaded roadworks were always in the back of my mind.
After a while I'd tagged onto the back of a TL1000S, saw SuziQ coming along and as she mentioned it was a nice comfortable pace, and I was quite content to follow someone else as a warning for the dreaded road works. Eventually the warning road sign came up and the 2 bikes in front ducked straight off to park up at a pub! Bugger... oh well just carried on and didnt seem to bad, the VFR two up and loaded to the gunnels is a bit of a handful but seemd to cope alright. More was come though at the top of the Viaduc, now this was different, real think chunky pea gravel and big solid stones etc.
I'd just caught this guy on trike thingy towing a trailer and he waved me pass, just as I pulled out we hit this stuff, managed to brake just enough and get back in behind him. Then had the dilemma, do I keep my dark, bug splattered visor down and try and pick out the best "line" or lift my visor and get dusted out? Seeing as I would need to lift one hand off the bar to lift visor just sort of ploughed on through. Wasnt that bad to be honest :innocent:
The next testing section where we had a couple of kms of newly sealed road with thickish pea gravel on a twisting downhill section with numerous hair pins etc and a strong wind howling through the hills. Ended up just leaving the bike in second gear and using engine braking to help, I'm sure Mr Honda had a great idea in mind when he fitted the DCS combined braking system to the VFR, but when I was using that rear pedal during our descent, none actually sprang to mind.
Think we eventually regrouped in Springfield where those that needed to could fuel up. By now it was tempting just to get home as it was probably only about 40 minutes away, I quick wave and I cruised off on my own. A nice car flashed his lights at me just out of Sheffield, hmmm, must be cop around here....argghh, fark, he's behind the wheel of the car that just flashed his lights! Quick speedo check, 120km, you got to be joking, back it off to 110, which with the tail wind NorWester blowing was not that easy, after checking my mirrors for abit, decide he must have bigger fish to fry than me!
No other dramas invloved and get home no worries!
Thanks to all the guys and girls I rode with and good effort everyone in keeping it rubberside down in at times some trying situations. Good to meet a few new faces too!
So whens the next one? March Hare is it?

It was the Whitebait patties that did it  that got swooped on by the vultures mmm squadron leader Buell :wait:

I tried to stop them taking the whitebait, but after hunting around the grounds of the pub for LeMans, carrying his dinner of a delectable plate of whitebait pattie in my hand, I just couldn't hold them all off and had to try it myself as well ...damn nice feed at the pub!

Well as all the others have said it was a good trip, tho the trip home was not the best, going down porters was particularly bad, kept having to chop and change gears, 1st was too low and 2nd was just about too high, damn it. The wind did take me across the road a few times thru the deep shit, but made it down, somehow. Hmm, sometimes having a light bike is NOT the best thing.
Apart from that had a bloody fantastic trip. Lewis pass from Springs to reefton was just marvelous...I would have to say it is one of my fav peices of road this year. Last year we had 10kms of gravel, with a cop on our tail...50kms hour all the way. This year the road was superb! Sun shining thru the trees, nice smooth corners, and a good pace behind Dangerous, with I think Thunder behind me? I seemed to end up either following Thunder or him following me all the way, handy cos of the radar detector on board his bike. Interesting when we compared fuel comsumption; 11litre compared to 15 (chch to springs)...and NO the HD was NOT the big guzzler ;)

The fireworks at the rally were excellant, the view from the beer tent was grand, nice to be able to see the incoming bikes... esp when waiting for 'special friends' to arrive...eh Chic'n'charge

ah well, roll on next weekend...off to auckland for the HOG rally for me and a adventure for Dangerous in the big wilds of the North Island. The rest of ya can go to the Vincent, I will get back to that rally one year! Its a good'un too!

After a late start on Saturday & the hills looking a bit dubious weather wise I rocked up towards Arthur's, passing Lemans & SDU on their new MGs leaving them to tinker along at their own pace.
Told ya I rode like a nana!

The roadworks were interesting, Porter's pass in heavy fog & fresh seal wasn't the fun in usually is. Arthur's to Otira wasn't much better.
What an understatement! Glad they had improved heaps for those that took that route home.

The site was awesome…the atmosphere was great, weather was just a bonus.
CONGRATS to the Sensible couple on 23yrs…:first: and great to have that feed at the Woodstock to celebrate.
Ditto to all that!

Have a good trip north guys.

Well I survived my biggest ride yet. The weather was awesome most of the trip. A bit of fog on porters (on Sat) & a bit of light rain for a few km's halfway between Reefton & Springs Junction (we went through the Lewis home) other than that it was sunny & hot as. It was a good rally, even if I missed the tank as Lemans :drinknsin decided he had to take a nap under a tree next to the pub. Shit happens if ya drink lots on an empty stomach. We staggered weaved back to the site just on dark. I left him to guard the tent:thud: & went back to the party. Lemans showed up sometime after 1am. It was good to see ya all & meet those I haven't met before. I look forward to seeing ya all at the vincent

I guess have to make a honourable mention to Jesus aka Lemans for his ressurection. Top marks.

1) Someone had to hold up the bar
2) The hot cage and tent city
3) Mmmm fireworks

My first time to a Woodstock also. Cal, Brent (first rally ever) and I cruised to Reefton Friday avo and stayed in the Old Nurses Hostel Accommodation. Excellent place to kip. Leasurely start on Saturday - coffee in Greymouth, lunch at Hoki and to the rally by about 2:30. Jantar showed us a good spot as the place was filling up.

Overall the rally was well organised with a live band much of the time and the tank etc and no Harley bozo decided to light up at 4am as seems mandatory at other rallies. Good to meet a number of new KB faces and it was a bit special to help the Sensibles celebrate :2thumbsup

Have to say however that I didn't really enjoy some of the riding. The weather leaving Chch was wet but clear patches up to the Lewis and then all clear. But when the front wheel let go on a wet bit of smoothe tar near the Hanmer turn off I was definitely ungrooved and nana'd thru the Lewis. Glad the weather was dry on the way home!! The Arthurs roadworks didn't cause me any probs tho cos I took it quietly. Stuck to the 30kph limit down Porters (lowered the idle speed a spot) but it would have been quite a challenge to get up to the 70kph limit on the roadworks/scree above the viaduct.

Time for a new tyre I suspect.

Well I did have a good weekend as well.

Nice sleep under a tree until all in sundry came looking for me.

A good ride home the long way around with very little rain and traffic.
And a road in better condition than Arthurs Pass, we did warn you it was bad.

There was a lot of bikes going home the same way to miss that crappie road.

SDU did well on her longest and furthest ride in a day so far.
She was not happy to ride over two more railway bridges though.

And for me it has been a long time since I have been in that part of the country and seen more than a few old places that brought back some old memories from when I use to stay there, every school holidays.

See you all at the Vincent and I'm eating before Bourbon this time.

Hey guys,

What a special rally, ride up there on the back of IDB's bike was fab, it was just breathtaking to get on the west coast and see the hills wearing their overcoats of ferns and trees, they just go up and up, had a few beers in the Fox thursday and then headed on up to the rally site, the weather was good, but not as stinking hot as last year, man that was a great temperature then:yes:

Friday night was fab with the bank rocking and managed to catch some guys and girls I met at Nelson there, who come from Westport, thank you craig for rugby tacling me, but again like the straw bail fight in Glenorchy, I tackled him right back to the ground, did a few rolls around and got my foot on his chest in triumph. Am going to have to stop this behaviour at rallies or else people will thing I am not the :innocent: that I really am.

Saturday was groovy, rumbling arond the coastline on the ducatti, its jst so fab being a pillion sometimes, my head was spinning around like an owl and then was a surprise to catch up with the Christchuch KBers at that pub in ? Reefton, guys a special bond grows around us everytime we meet, think your all great, having said that though the more beer that gets drunk, then the sillyness and talking totally bollocks start which is always great fun.

Mark, the rocking and rolling was great, now have grass stains on my favourite jeans which havent come out in the wash :shit:

The meal at the pub for the sensibles wedding anniversary was grand, and what mad me laugh till I was nearly on my knees, was the cute little kitten with no tail that was the friendliest cat ever introduced itself to our crowd, and nearly got kittynapped, so look out for those pictures when I have located my camera, currently have activated my locate trace through the debris which is in my away bag, looks a ittle like Beirut on a bad day.

Anyway, the cat piccys will follow shortly, and you can see for yourself what a frigging laugh that was, and the frames will be suitably named.

We had the mightyest of rain falls on the way back home, so had to overnight in Fox again, but needed the rest, jumping around, singing shouting at the bike rally until the point of exhaustion always occurs on the ride home, so to hang the boots up again for an impromptu rest, was absolutely fantastic

Footnote.......

Ha Ha Ha, by the way, after the Satuday, when Jen Ian and I found we were the only KBers up (bunch of lightweights.) when I hit the sack there were some dudes I have met at previous rallies, who were giggling like a coupld of girls, so we all started sining, Kenny Rogers theGamblers even in our sleeping bags, and got told to shut the fuck up, so I shouted back "Oye, you harley rider, you bloody set off at 4am and wake us all up, so have some back, or words similar, and by fuck that felt good.

What is it with these dudes, and why do they always have to part at the back of the sight and warm their bikes up for hours, engage in the loudest conversation between themselves before the tear arse out of the sight.

God it felt good to vent a bit of singing at the top of my voice for a few morebars of dear Kenny, Ha Ha Ha:Punk:

Part of my reason for going to Hoki was to give the Darmah a shake-down run before it gets crated up this weekend and onto the boat to England.

I'd only got it running the previous weekend so I wanted to make sure nothing was going to fall off in Blighty and beyond.

There doesn't seem to be anything too major.
I've got an irritating oil-leak somewhere up around the valve covers, a slight leak in the rear caliper (new O-ring needed I think) and a little bit of exhaust gas escaping from the join of one muffler onto the header pipe.

The trip home was a good test because we hit the full force of the southerly storm with bucketing rain and blustery wind.
The bike had to sit outside in it all night and wouldn't start on the button the next morning, I'm not sure what the problem could be there but it started on the kickstart with no effort at all and all the other electrics seemed to work.

And that's about it so an oil & filter change and those few things shouldn't be too much effort to have it ready for boxing.
It then disappears from my garage for 12 weeks.....it'll be the longest we've been apart!

Got 58pmg from the Tequila Sunrise (our Hogly) for most of the trip (23 litres from Whataroa to Geraldine with running around thrown in).

Yeah, CB was having a "Oh my lord, what's he doing and who the hell does he belong to?" moment.
But she loves me!

Had a great cruise home via Springfield, night at Geraldine (put new bulbs in my spot-lights there) then onto Twizel for lunch, Monday night at Quail Rise near Queenstown (if ya have to ask where it is then you're some kinda poor person) and then home via Alexandra today, I think it was around the 1,600km mark for the round trip.

Bike never missed a beat, just a lot of scratching noises on the twisty bits:yes:

The bike had to sit outside in it all night and wouldn't start on the button the next morning, I'm not sure what the problem could be there but it started on the kickstart with no effort at all and all the other electrics seemed to work.

battery cold , slightly less smoke held in battery, lots of cold engine to turn over and a starter motor that Just adequate, make sure all components in the starting circuit are tip top. Run big ole wires in starter circuit as , the Italians wernt the best at electrikery ..( actually how did lucas get a bad name an Marelli weber spagaletti go untouched ??)

Well all, what can i say; thanks for coming to our rally. Good on ya's for dealing with the road conditions. Hope you enjoyed the sunshine we ended up putting on :)
Rally is always a busy time for the club members, so pity I didn't quite get the quality time to sink piss with the KB'ers.

Till next year

Partner and I rode down to Hokitika from Greymouth for an afternoon’s relaxing before visiting a friend or two from Christchurch who were already camped at the Rally – living so close and never having attended before, we thought it would also be an excellent opportunity to have a look around and check it out for ourselves with a view to making a serious effort to attend the whole deal next year. Yes, we should have checked before assuming that we could actually do that, ie, pay a reduced fee for being on site for a couple of hours before trundling off home again. Alas, this wasn’t to be. We weren’t allowed entry without paying $30 each for the couple of hours we intended to be there. (Arrived at 6pm, woulda been gone by 8pm). I offered to pay the price of a single ticket for both of us, but still no go (and the bike was going to be left outside the entry point). Cellphones are good things and friend arrived for quick catchup outside the gate so wasn't a complete waste of time. I'll admit to feeling pretty grumpy at this stage.

A note to the organisers who obviously do an excellent job judging by the happy feedback in this thread and good reports from previous years – consider providing an option for short term visitors (not everyone is able to attend the whole weekend, nor camp out for various reasons). You could have an area for visitors to leave their bikes and if they’re not off site by a certain time, nab them for the extra dollars when they come to collect their bikes. I’d be more than happy to wear a different coloured wrist tag to single me out as a rookie/visitor/lurker/tentless person. As the vast majority would be attending the whole event, I would be surprised if it was too much of a hassle.

Hmm, good idea tha MAY be able to be made workable, dunno how it would go as far as numbers attending goes though - there might be 100's of people who might just 'visit' instead of staying.

Another thought: How many other events (rock concerts, movies etc) can you get into for cheap just to 'visit'???

Vincent rally at Galloway do that, I always used to give them $20:00 bucks back just to help them with the rally because they are shit hot people.

The early March Hare organisers were just like the Woodstock organisers they did the same to me as you got only I could not be there because of work and could only visit as I was passing the rally.

Hence to date I have never attended a March Hare, I usually stay home and pray for rain!

Think I will go this year because it is under new management now and there will be lots of KBer's there. Cheers John.

Hi Shirl..

I understand your frustration at this dilemma.. :( but in 15 years & 45ish rallies under my belt, I have found that it is generally stock standard to charge the same entry fee for 'visitors' as it is for full rally goers.. sometimes, they actually charge more!! :shit: Their efforts taken, & the expense at putting a rally on, needs to be shared equally among the people attending.. for everyones enjoyment universally.. whether you are there for 2 hours, or 2 days. It still costs the same to run the event. And running rallies ain't cheap!!!

I am involved in a club that organises a yearly bike rally. This year will be number 5 (I think.. ) Each year we try to make an effort to improve on the year before's effort. This usually requires money, & I guess that if someone is coming in to enjoy our rally, then they need to pay to enjoy it, & not just enjoy it at other peoples expense.. ie: those who have paid full price to be there for the whole weekend.

Hopefully next year you might be able to go to the rally for the whole weekend, & enjoy it as much as we all did.. it was a great rally & very well organised.!! would be xlnt to have another member to add to the KB family too!!! :grouphug:
