Slightly more of a rant than anything & the delete button is in over use mode due to the drunken blur of the screen :drinknsin

Anyhow spent most of this morning chasing a bug/gremlin out of the ZXR that had been biting at me for ages
As a rule ZXRs are pigs at idle and my old girls more so since being rebuilt with what I chucked into it :innocent:
Well recently it's gracefully adorned the hair-trigger choke & an idle that if said boo to, crapped itself & either died or visited the 3k mark. This didn't bother me much as 200m any direction from my gate is 100kmh zone.

This morning I had planned out to attack everything & sort the bitch out, so wheeled her out, stripped off panels etc & got to it. popped the carbs off for a strip & clean, gapped the plugs, checked/cleaned the air filter, checked all the connections & so on.

did the carbs and refitted them, just for curiousity checked the spark on the plugs, then slammed on the balancer to dial the carbs in. Got her running sweet as a nut then all turned to shit! :slap:
had her idling nice n sweet stopped her to remove the balancer pipes & fit the tower caps, grabbed a handful of the main wiring harness (tape wrapped & inside concertina sheath) and gave it a wriggle.

Went to fire her up again & farkin nothing!:angry2: the starter motor is spinning things over per the norm, but no bang into life :argh: , popped each lead off & checked with a tester & absolutely no juice!

Chucked the cover over it in disgust and walked away, otherwise I'd have taken to it with my boot:brick:
been at the pub tonight to drown the agression, but got to strip the wiring back tomorrow/later today to trace the friggin problem:brick:

Lesson: Don't fiddle with whats working:nono: , passive thought at least it happened at home & not out in the wop wops!

Still frigging annoying though :weep: bugger it all!

rant over

If all it took was a wiggle then you're right - could have been out in the middle of butt-f**k nowhere. I guess you're lucky.
No theme from deliverance this time...

Those bloody gremlin's.

It's just as bad when you do a rebuild and strip the last bolt or drop a tool to break or scratch some thing.

Just think on the bright side, at least now you can track down that problem that has more than likely been there for awhile now.
And is not an intermitting fault anymore and your bike may go even better than ever.

I hate intermitting faults, I would prefer that broke down completely some it's something that you can find the first time and keep thinking that you have fixed, to find that it comes back to haunt you.

Thats bad luck after going to all that effort mate. I'm sure a man of your caliber will have it sorted in no time.

Mine does exactly the same thing! Turn key on, push start button....nothing! Wriggle wiring....turns over but wont fire. It will go with a bumpstart but not off the starter.

Let us know when you suss it out eh?

Mine decided it was tired in Otrahonga, and without a multi meter there was no way I could find the fault on the side of the road!

Thankfully a guy who had been on the sheep ride the day before stopped and gave me a ride the 200k back t aucks!

Imagine if it had of happen in a bike shop while they were giving it a service - what a bunch of arseholes they would of been then!

Found the offending wire after stripping back the whole harness  it was one from the 6 pin plug for the IC igniter through to the coils. plumb in a new one over the course of the week & a few new connectors, take the IC igniter into work tomorrow to accurately check the resistance across the terminals & hopefully all will be good.

True! been planning on doing some rides through some dubious areas, that have reputations of don't get caught there after dark & the locals are all related

I'd been procrastinating about fixing the problem but at least now it's solved properly & barring a major issue everything is is in tip top condition. Chasing electrical bugs would have to be the most frustrating piece of problem solving

 lucky it happened where it did though :sweatdrop

check your wiring connections, from the right switch block to the main harness then through to under the seat

It ain't a nice feeling when it happens out on the road, think the bikes try to test us sometimes. At least there's some good people out there still who'll help in situations like that instead of just eyeballing you as they drive by.

Why ??? if they're honest about finding the fault & don't feed you a bullshit story about the cause of it, then where's the problem? At least in the shop enviroment we've got the resources to be able to diagnose the fault quickly and remedy it easily
