I warned you on Draco's thread about the police presence on 16, including the blue Mazda 6. Lucky you listened, obviously the Gixxer 1000 rider didnt.
No it was a 600 done for 215 kph and he wasn't a kber or on draco's ride. But he now has 6 month to think about it and 28 days storage to pay for. Cop was also telling him about the six he got the other night while he was bring him to the gas station.

what we should do is setup an underground section on the forum and you can only access it if your known to squirt it open a bit and dont want the fuzzy muff to know. stuff like ride meets and thursday night stuff should only be available to people that you know and that are not cops and enjoy a good ride not worring about the cops knowing your exact route. it would be almost another little club . you have to be nominated by some one that knows your not a cop and likes a bit of action. just a suggestion for the moderators.

My opinion is that it IS dangerous to be doing those speeds on an open road where innocent people are tootling along mind their own business, never mind the capabilities of the rider - they have nothing to do with it. It puts other road users at unnecessary risk. Keep it for the track IMHO.

i've just been talking to a HP cop - he said that most of the time he doesn't worry about bikes cause he knows the riders are usually concentrating harder, and if they crash they usually only kill themselves.

Even if my bike could do that, I wouldn't. I didn't actually whinge about my kid getting a ticket, but since you brought it up, yes he did, and the telling off he got from the cop was minor in comparison to what he got from his mother. 65 kph is quite different to 215 tho, wouldn't you say?
Not all of us have to speed like the devil is on our arse. Not all of us have to "prove" ourselves, some of us can just ride at a reasonable pace and enjoy what we are doing. It can be about enjoying the journey and it has the added benefits of no road side tax and no demerits too... can't be all bad.

Rather partial to curried sausages. And I always carry a few beers in the BMW saddlebags.
Auckland to Napier, 400+ km. And some slow bits to get through, plus a fuel stop. I'd reckon a good 4 hours. And allow a bit for finding the house. Say 10pm I reckon.
But I'm not coming if that greedy little hXc fella's gonna eat all the sausages before I get there.

Maybe we should just make the site unviewable to unregistered users and put a large easy to read clause before signing up where it says you can't sign up if you are affiliated with the police and are wanting to use our site as a method of targeting organised rides.
Not that it would stop the cops, they would probably sign up despite the clause and use the info to help them source more revenue gathering events. They would then just lie and claim they had never heard of KB.

The last few times I've ridden SH16 there have been more livestock on the roads than there are Highway Patrol units. There are some lovely straights where I am sure someone could do 250 kmp/h + safely.
The fact that the Cop was gloating about catching 6 bikers on the Thursday night is a bit fucked up. Andy Caird was his name wasn't it? Utter lying scummy filth, he deserves some special attention.

Went Coatesville/Riverhead then Farmers onto Peak to Helensville before heading up 16 to Wellsford yesterday. Not one Cop on the whole trip until coming back down SH1 from Wellsford when I saw one only.
(The Coatesville Rd is boring at 80km/h but too many "tractors" driven by incompetents, anyway).:stupid:
My concern with these kind of speeds is the public that use the roads. I came across two actual tractors, one on Peak Rd. and one on SH16 just plodding along minding their own business at about 30km/h. Had I been doing anywhere near the speeds on this thread, I could be a statistic now. I posted months ago that I knew a biker back in the 70's who died crashing into the back of a tractor as he came around the corner at about 130km/h. Had no chance!:bye:
I've had people pull out from driveways in front of me. Even in my truck which is far easier to see than my bike! I tend to agree with the sentiments of those who advocate the track as the best place to "see what she'll do", (That's the bike, by the way... )

The thing is, the cops have no proof. Without physical evidence, they don't know the truth from a fucking banana. Even with evidence they seem to fuck things up. You cannot be arrested or charged with anything from claims of stuff you've done on the internet.

"The thought police would get him just the same. He had committed—would have committed, even if he had never set pen to paper—the essential crime that contained all others in itself. Thoughtcrime, they called it. Thoughtcrime was not a thing that could be concealed forever. You might dodge successfully for a while, even for years, but sooner or later they were bound to get you."

Yep, go flying around a corner at big speeds and there they are, right in your lane, no where to go for you... Darwin awards.
Doesn't sound like the Andy I know... hard worker, good bloke... not a biker tho...

Like we do now? Yep, we sign in, see where you're going and get out there to catch ya... :zzzz:
Nah, I make myself cruise on the other side of town...:innocent:
Then you're a good one.
I'm just a bit pissed off with the double standards of our police force - seeing mufti cops blatantly exceed the speed limit in both a 60 zone and a 50 zone by over 20kph has just left me a bit sour. I really wouldn't care but I do because I've heard of mates who have been pinged going 15kph over the speed limit on the motorway where the conditions were perfect with little traffic.
Maybe you or another can answer me, why are there so many mufti cops?
Do the mufti cops have radar?

Nah, before Sh16 got so popular and plod-ridden there were bits where 200 odd was reasonable enough.
But for the last couple of years its been overrun by Ethels and Plods.
yep have notice that.
SH 16, hot dry day, long staight, no cars, 235km, two up on a sv 1000. What a buzz!....but, sadly those days are gone.
They are trying to get more cars travelling that road and we bikers know what that means!!!!!!! more cops and less quick riding places for us.
As for alternative routes....yes well they just dont have the same combinations of twisties and straights now do they.
Best solution is a front runner with eagle eyes and a RADAR DETECTOR.
This has saved our arses heaps of times.

Nah there are two parts on SH16 which are big and open flats with farm on either side and you can see the road for 1 or 2 km. I personally wouldn't do over 140 - 160 up there in the straights as I've come around corners at 80 - 110 and had to dodge sheep and fresh road kill. Just ain't worth it for such a boring road (apart from a few places where its twisty).
But as I mentioned, lots of big long straights that are very safe to speed on, nice seal, wide road, paddocks either side, good flat view of the road for at least 1 KM. It's not unsafe. But its not legal. So its a risk. Just pointing out how 120 - 150 kmp/h on one of those long straights is perfectly safe for most motorcyclist but will often end up with you losing some valuable plastic.
There are still the gravel roads that go up between SH16 and SH1 which are even better and you can happily and safely do 100 kmp/h in some parts which is why I have a naked bike now, much more practical.

too fast.
somebody recently told me something about if it's over 200 or something that they lock you up.
O.K. you all need to know, Speeding is ok if it's a cop or priminister. its not the amount of how many ks over, it's speeding period. i persononally know the guy in question. he does not take part in forums, or go to bike clubs bragging on ability or how long he has been riding.
he got caught because he slowed for his mates and did not realise the cop car was in pursuit as he did not drive with the siren on.
he asses the situation of how heavy or light the traffic is, weather conditions, and road surface etc and what the dangers they present at the time. he is not proud of the speed he was caught at and will not not bitch or moan at the length of ban or fine he receives.
for those of you out there who choose to judge him either to fast, or dangerous etc dont do it until you know him, or ride with him. in his defence all i can say is this guy can ride better on one wheel at high speed than most people can on two.
oh and over 200 is not an instant lock up, it just makes the cops day.

True I wanted to hear 'yes' because it supports my current feelings.
But if I'm told otherwise and the information seems valid I won't argue it or just pretend I never heard it.
I personally don't understand why there are so many mufti cops other than to make it easier to ping people for speeding. I drive around Auckland for my job during the week and I often see more mufti cops than I do marked.
I guess having radar in a mufti car obviously proves it's purpose.
If mufti cops did not have radars then I would understand, there's no point wasting money on police markings and top lights if the car is being used by a detective or a senior officer (If they are provided cars, I don't know).

The 'mufti' cop you see may be a detective (the most likely one), a firearms instructor, a crash investigator, somebody taking it for servicing or a whole lot of other reason for being on the road other than doing traffic.

I was browsing through the 'management' chart for the Waitakere, North Shore and Rodney area and came across one fella I'm sure was the old dude who turned up in the second mufti on thursday night.
His title is Special Projects Manager or something along those lines.
I presume he would be the one who would instigate a "blitz" on speeding bikers in a specific area? Come up with the intelligence to hand out to traffic officers to go out and do the work and acheive the results he wants to make the project a success?
Just curious... if any of the Police can or want to elaborate on that and if its a common thing in most districts.

I'll be perfectly honest - I'm disgusted that the cops use these gas guzzling Commodores with Engines greater than 2 Litres. If they used sensible cars like Mondeos or Vectras they'd save enough money to pay police a decent wage hence getting a decent standard of officer and even have enough left over for some extra policemen.
I'm pleased they have diversified their fleet finally.
There are other countries in the world that fare perfectly well without big block engines.

Means that if you park in front of another parked car you dont have to send the radar signal through the car behind.

1:
You get caught speeding its an instant fine and demerit points, over +40 and its a 28 day licence suspension too, over +50 and its a court appearance on a fine only charge. A dangerous speed charge is possible if its +50 and the circumstances of the offence are particularly dangerous.
You get caught drink driving and its a court appearance, possible prison term, mandatory 6 months disqualification and a fine. The penalties increase for third and subsequent offences plus recidivists stand to have the vehicles confiscated and face likley indefinite disqualification.
2:
Murder is an offence that is investigated by trained Criminal Investigation Branch Detectives. There is no point assigning traffic cops to investigate murder.
Any more stupid questions?

My point is that this illustrates the narrow mindness , not of the cops, but the powers that be in thinking only terminal velocity effects the outcome/likelyness of an accident and therefor only charge for that rather than people who stray over their lane corner poorly etc.

It is one factor in road crashes, roads are another, drink driving, mechanical defaults are others. Police are only tasked with drink driving, sometimes mechanical defaults when we see cars that aren't up to standard and write them off the road, and speed enforcement.
They wont give us diggers and steam rollers to fix the roads :shifty:
You are also empowered to enforce the road rules!
Yet I seldom see people ticketed for U turning on symonds street even though this has resulted in death, people have no qualms with running red lights hell even a cop did it in front of me the other day. Through focussing on things like this other than speed the police could have a greater impact on road safety, I know bykey cop loves sitting at lights as he quickly gathers lots of "contacts" from all the red runners.

I hear ya, and I agree with what you're saying, but I'm willing to bet he doesn't get to decide where or when he is to be deployed, or even given full access to all the stats in an attempt to make him better informed to make those decisions (because he ca't make them...)

Like I said, straying over the centre line is prima facie careless driving, people get charged for it, ask Swan Tiger.
Driver behaviour is what causes crashes, speeding is just one of those behaviours, if you saw the traffic charge precedent book and the huge range of offences you can be charged with you would be stunned.

U turns arent illegal in New Zealand and if your referring to the yellow cbr600f4i that was taken out on symonds street and the rider killed, the driver of that vehicle WAS prosetcuted. I had the task to clean the rider up so i do know that case reasonably well :( The u turn wasnt illegal, but not checking both ways before doing it and as a result hitting another vehicle is.
Most cops will stop a red light runner however if we are preoccupied with finding an offender and doing areas, trying to stealth to a job or conducting urgent enquries i wont.
STU units in town man the intersections around town every morning and afternoon so as far as the Symonds Street area you dont think is policed for light runners - it is.
Yellow lines on Symonds St mate, is it not illegal to U turn across no crossing lines?? Not sure of the bike but this was before your time I think.
Every morning and afternoon?!? Seen them once, well actually two bike cops getting all the red runners at the bottom of Queen.

The Cop who issued me the ticket was a biker and was extremely good about it, even let me off on a lot of other things. He was just concerned as a biker that if a car turned in unexpectedly and cut the corner or ran wide while coming through the intersection I would of been fucked.
That was a awesome display of discretion in my opinion and I learnt my lesson, ride faster than the other bikes so you can get a better spot at the intersection :innocent:
:dodge: P/T
How come Police do not proactively enforce this 'charge' upon more drivers?
Also I have a question. The places of which traffic officers park their vehicles, such as on State Highway 16, is there a requirement by law that it be public or part of the road? I'm just curious as I have seen HP's parked in gravel pits and private drive ways.

Police are allowed to park anywhere in the excecution of their duty .
By whom?
It's this sort of comment that riles me up - states "we're better than you" + "we have more rights than you" in my eyes - when did the police force in New Zealand forget that they're public servants FFS?
Sorry but I've been shutting up for ages and couldn't hold it in any more.
(edit) I've calmed down a bit now - maybe that's not what you intend to mean but it's how it sounded to me - I'd find it a bit more refreshing if the police posted as themselves with their own opinions rather than always posting the official position as seems to be the case and if they didn't brag about "waving a Glock" at some P head. C'mon - you don't catch me talking about Advertising all day do you?

No.
I was pulled over by a blue mufti vehicle on Old North Road when I organised a 250cc ride up to Mangawhai.
He had followed the group of bikes from State Highway 16 and stated he was just "making sure we were behaving", which we were.
I had my license suspended for doing (a disputed) 132 kmp/h in the 80 kmp/h zone along Old North Road while on a ride.
I wasn't approached by a Police officer until approximately 1 hour and 20 kilometers later, who took my license.
The careless charge was justified, but considering it was my first traffic related offence I would of hoped for just a telling off. Instead I got both :shit:

Ah cool, curiosity satisfied.
EDIT: One thing people seem to confuse is that I wasn't on my GTR at the time, I was on my Girl friends GV 250 cruiser when I lost my license. If I was on my GTR I wouldn't of been stuck at the back of the ride and wouldn't be in this predicament. Lesson learnt, remove number plate and ride faster and don't stop when you see flashing blue lights :nya:

What poppy cock, if it was dangerous he should of pulled you then and there as this is how the justify ticketing etc (speed is dangerous), he should of stopped you straight away for your careless driving incase you had gone on to cause injury to other members of the public.
Would the cop be liable , morally or legally , if you had gone on to kill a bus load or little kiddies cause he was trying to catch you doing something else?!

Now-now McJim, you wouldn't want to give the nay-sayers MORE ammo by having cops say "Sorry love, woulda been here about 20 minutes earlier but I couldn't find a park that wasn't on the grass/on a yellow line/near an intersection etc etc" would you?? :innocent:

In the lawful execution of their duty police can park their vehicles anywhere they need to.
Part of the definition of "road" in the land transport act says "anywhere that the public has access to whether by right or not". Driveways, vehicle access lanes, gravel pits etc are all roads under the act.

brag about "waving a Glock" at some P head.Pretty much all the talk of police use of firearms has been as a result of site cops correcting misleading, ill-informed bullshit posts on that subject, I don't recall ever reading a site cop boasting about waving a glock at anybody, (we might joke about it but we aren't unique in doing that on this site). I've only ever had to aim a firearm at one person and I hope like hell that I never have to do it again.
