First off, welcome to KB nickchilli.....2nd, Mrs Maha thinks that Buell's are really sexy, you have good taste in your pending bike, they both have my vote but i would lean towards..........ah dunno, you have to ride them both and go from there really, Buell?? by a whisker....:done:

I test rode a Buell 900 I loved the motor but found the short wheel base
and high seat not right ergonomically although the around town flickability
was excellent. I also found the mirrors blurred with vibration. My main serious
concern was in the case of emergency braking whether or not being thrown
over the bars was likely.

wow... you have just discribed my bucket!!!
apart from the falling over the handle bars, as when i put my front brakes on, it's like squezing a brick... but if i shut my eyes and try real hard i think i can get the back wheel off the ground. i dream of brakes that would work like that..

Welcome to Kb nickchilli ;)
guess someone with some knowledge of the buell should really reply huh?

Not so sure about the lightning as i have a firebolt, which is the 'R' model with a bit more of fairing...but I luv the damn bike! It is not the easiest to ride, take a bit of acclimatising esp after a jappa, but it is just an awesome bike to ride. Sounds amazing, has pretty damn good pickup, and even comfy for me after a few hours of riding it. Have riden it over most of the country now, 13000kms later, still luving it. Rode it at Have a go days and even raced it in BEARS 2 months ago.. that was hard work but fun!
Never had any issues with the brakes at all...surprising really cos they work rather well at times. I stand about 5ft 8 and it fits me nicely, meet a bloke the other day who must be at least 6 ft 2 or taller and he loves his as well.
I'll see what i can find in regards to what other people on Kb have thought about them
heres a few...

first thanks guys ,looks like a good community on here,

well the buell i went to go for a test ride in wellington buut they dont have a demonstrator so there going to 'try' to get one for me, would you spend 20 k on a bike without trying it first?

the 2 (ktm and xb12ss) compare buell has slightly more torque( but ktm has more power ,
buell seem to have small probs and getting them fixed is a tricky buisness but its fuel tank attracts me , i want to explore south island this summer and having a small tank would be a pain ktm 15 litres buell 16.7,

i dont know.. going to take my time and test both of em first though ,

nice to meet you all..:2thumbsup

nope, always try first, absolutely! I spent 5 hours on one from Amps before deciding it was what i wanted, tho i didn't buy from there cos I live in chch.

I'm curious, what sort of small problems with the Buell? Have pretty ok service people down here so getting things fixed shouldn't be a problem... not that I have needed them yet.

Fuelwise on the firebolt (14 and a bit litre tank)... anywhere between 200 and 250kms, I have yet to run out. The biggest amount put in so far was 12 litres, so I'm guessing it has a HUGE reserve. The guys in the states reckon they can get about 30 miles on reserve. Not really come close to running out anywhere away from a city down here, they aren't that far apart ;)
