i took the Flying Pig up to get some gas at the Mobile on Dominion & Mt. Albert today ( since i couldnt make it to Kumeu..).. mmmmm 98 octane...
anyhoo...all i needed was a pack of smokes and pay for my gas and i was outie.. i didnt bother to remove my helmet and one glove .. i walked in and there was this black ghost in a Burka and her pack of kids in the store.. full face Burka mind you...
i walked up to the counter and asked for a pack of smokes and the minimum wage drone behind the counter (quoting now ..) said..
" i will not serve you unless you remove your helmet.."
"say what????"
"please remove your helmet.."
"theres no signs anywhere that say i have to remove my helmet..."
"remove your helmet sir, or i will not serve you"
"great.. free gas!!!"
" if you drive away without paying, i will call the police.."
" but you wont serve me.."
" not unless you remove your helmet.."
at the same time .. the lovely bedsheet was paying for her rolling papers and studded condoms at the cashier next to mine ..
"how come SHE can do it???"
"its a religious matter sir"
"so's my bike fuckwit!" (i was getting annoyed at this time and wanted to seize the opportunity to stir some shit anyway..)
"dont talk to me like that sir.. i do not have to take it"
well then take my money and i'll leave"
"not until you remove your helmet"
back home we call this a Mexican Standoff.....only this Mexican came from Pakistan or India or some other shithole..
i got tired of his shit finally and tossed a $20 on the counter and fucked off...leaving a bit of smoke off the rear tire on the way out..
can anyone explain to me how this is fair?

And how often are helmets used in robberies compared to trousers? So why do they not demand that we remove our trousers? Has anyone experienced this with an open face helmet? (Which would knock out the picture thing completely). But I don't accept the picture excuse anyway, with a clear visor. A full face helmet with clear visor will give a better view of the face that someone wearing sunglasses.

Fuggin' good point Sarge.
Why does religion deserve special treatment? Religion is an integral part of some losers lives, just as motorcycling is an integral part of the lives of more elevated life forms. (Religious motorcyclists are a sub-species of the more elevated lifeforms).
Surely in an enlightened society the rights of the society should outweigh the rights of the individual. If society as a whole is better off for a certain action then the rights of the individual assume less importance. Meaning that if motorcyclists are obliged to remove their helmets for identification purposes then EVERYONE should have to remove face coverings for identification purposes.
Hey I know, how about women in burkha, chador etc be made to reveal their faces on the proviso that WE WON"T LOOK. You know, like when your MUM pestered you as a young 'un for your new phone number and you only gave it to her on the proviso that she never, EVER rang it.

This isn't the first example of different treatment towards woman that wear a burkha.
Early last year?there was a guy on trial and his wife was a witness and there was a big stink made about her wearing a burkha in court as "you can't see your accuser"
Also I'm pretty sure that they do your drivers license photo whilst wearing a burkha........which defeats the purpose of a photo in the first place and also how do you know that the person standing in the burkha is the one that is actually the person specified on the license.

You're right, but someone in front of you with a helmet on, fuel in their tank and cash in their hand offering it to you is a strange time to pull rank.
I'm personally a fan of natural justice, (or outcomes)... and if Sarge was unable to be served until he took his lid off, the only outcome would have to be to take the fuel back out of his tank.
Pain in the arse of a job... but if that's what the guy wanted then I'd be more than happy to let him arrange it. He'd need to prove to me there was just as much fuel left in the tank at the end too.
But ... it's his call.

Not entirely. That would be true if they elected not to supply fuel to motorcyclists at all, unless they removed their helmets
But in this case Mr Sarge had fuelled up , and was endeavouring to pay. They made acceptance of his payment subject to a condition that had not been advised at the time of the contract.
Mr Sarge proferred payment for the goods . They refused to take it. I'd have ridden off.
Put the subject into a non biker context. How about a chick goes in and the guy says he won't serve her unless she takes her top off? Does it being private property oblige her to take it off? Same thing I reckon.
Squeak the Rat
19th September 2006, 09:53
Depends if there was a no-helmet sign on the forecourt, and likewise a no-blouse sign. Such a sign would constitute a condition of contract (assuming it was in a visible place).
A lot of petrol stations have no-helmet signs, most people don't pay any attention to them. If there was such a sign I don't think the cops would be too lenient on someone riding away without paying.

Perhaps he figured that Sarge wearing a helmet and the aforementioned lady not wearing a bourka are equally scary. May it be that he decided not to enforce the anti-face-cover regulation out of pure humanism?
