Stancombe Road - there seems to be a bit of a track there....anyone here know anything about it?

I ride past it all the time so was just idly wondering if I should stop and say hi to any KB'ers....cos god forbid I stop and talk to some NON KB'ers! (p/t)

i too have noticed on more than one ocassion that there have been plenty of riders out there, quite a large area to ride in, the area they are riding on is part of the new Barry Curtis park that the Manukau City Council are establishing, they have completed the earthworks there yet as the ARC don't allow earthworks over the winter months, earthworks there are due to commence October again so it's likely tobe a no go area soon

I knew there would be a reason......so make the most of it while you can i suppose!

I always get a friendly wave when i go past.....might be something to do with that particular road and the kneedown right hander just past the track....

Yeah the other day i saw a van that had a bike in the back and had a trailor with more bikes parked up along there. It looks like a bit of fun. Are you legally allowed to ride there? I'd been keen as to have a blat through there!

Cool - I'm planning to explore that way a little soon. I's using Google local to check for open spaces near Howick and drove by the temple the other day on Stancombe rd and the area looks to have easy access and tracks leading off the road nearby so bikes have been about.

May be an ideal spot for the kids :chase: or the road legal trailbiker

Well I don't know about the legality but if anyone wants to go for a look saturdays and/or sundays - just make sure to wave to the yellow CBR that goes past every day :wari:

Hey I made that Map!! Glad to see others using it!! :)

the onehunga track is alot of fun. It's quite tight and tricky, but good fun. if it's been raining it's shit though. but it's been pretty dry lately, so it should be fine. Hopefully they will be doing some extensions soon as the summer brings more riders in and stuff.

In all honesty I think that the track is ok, It does need some work, but to get the money to do that they need people to go ride there. kind of like how fat bastard put it, I eat cause I'm fat adn I'm fat cause I eat......

Good fun to dick around there. Only $20 and they do groom it every so often.

Yeah went today and there were a few kids there having a good day. Wouldnt mind looking into geting a key but then id av to be able to get days off. The track is rough alrite a few ruts tht should be removed but its all good. Big table tops but looks like its more about length than height. The freestyle seems a bit dodge from wat the kids told me, didnt actually look myself. A few tight corners and esses seems lik good potential to me although the base isnt as nice as ardmore. Id rather the loamy soil than a clay base. But in sayin that many different types of tracks are good for experience.

Not sure if the tracks wide enough for the sort of competition the owners looking at but widing aint hard

I would say that this tracks days are numbered as it won't be long before people complain about the noise.

I aint no expert but isnt it in an industrial area that is heavy industry and the like. So noise isnt a problem. The fact that pikes point is just up the road operating those lovely volvo loaders that i get to work on. And the constant passing of laden trucks. Botany mite be but i dont thnk Waterford is

I tried botany the other day. It was pretty good, a few big table tops and massive jumps. Bottomed out my bike a few times, i should stiffen her up a bit and move away from the winter trail settings it has at the moment. Good for open blasts and a few tricky sections with a couple of berms in places. Its hard to ride quickly over the ruts that the diggers and stuff have made when it was wet. There are even a few pretty cool creek crossings and water hazards. It got a bit boring during the day by myself, i thought i would get in trouble from some people working near the play ground but they were just labourers and obviously didnt care. I then saw a guy drive in on a little suzuki 4wd lifting the front wheels off the ground and then started doing high speed donuts in the middle field. A guy in a newish Mitsubishi ute raced over from southern side and started chasing him down as the guy in the suzuki tried to escape. I then decided that now was a good time to get out so blasted up the road and down some side streets where i parked the van :).

I will try get out again some time before this weekend. It was great fun!

anything is better then mutha F______ woodhill! I got stuck in a freakin rain rut that literally consumed most of my bike last time and filled her with water. wodhill is a shithole, all wodhill rides are off my calender. thundercross, farm rides, ardmore and will have a go at this track.

27th September 2006, 21:59
yeah I kinda like woodhill, but only every so often. It apparently going to get a good going over with all teh grading going on.

IronicCapers
28th September 2006, 13:36
SHHWEEEEET. woodhill is alright but its n ot a place you wantto go all the time but its like any track. If you know all the old trails then woodhill is good. Sorta get sick of those whoops especially out the back along the fenceline. And the trees sometimes seem a bit close. But Like i said before any experience is good experience.

Yeah, real shame about this spot being fenced off now. Was so close to home [Howick].
Looking forward to the organised summer rides coming up.

Yes Botany is now fenced off. The FUN POLICE worked out that people were in there enjoying themselves so they rushed in to put a stop to that sort of malarky. I mean its not like its a park or anything is it, where Manukowers can go to enjoy life. Cant have people enjoying themselves can we now? People might get the wrong idea and start thinking that maybe everyone can enjoy doing something that does no harm to anyone else

i heard it got fenced off because some idiot rode backwards and ended up having a head on with another rider, if any one remembers a track down at whatawhata half hour from huntly got shut down from the same thing-execpt one of the riders died.
