Curious as to why the club scene is so big, ( Fantastic that it is) yet not a lot of these riders do the nationals when they are on, even in your own Island location?

Mate, I get bugger all chances to ride let alone race, due to work and as a result I'm pretty slow. I've only recently got back in the country so I'm not sure of what the "lay of the land" is at club meetings let alone nationals meetings. I'll take any opportunty to race if I'm home but I'm kinda guessing they don't have a class for slow riders on fast-ish bikes.
Serious question: is there a clubmans type class at the nationals rounds?

Not really if you think about it, You race for FUN, so turn up on a Saturday morning, not Friday, do your 2 or 3 x Qualify sessions, there really is no cut off time here in NZ, and have fun and go racing.
It takes a first place and a last place to make a Race
Most of the people on here are spending the same or near enough on track days!

For 600cc SP, when I raced in the Natz, there weren't many other usual club racers there who I used to have battles with. Only the real serious bunch were there and they were too far out of sight.
After that experience, I figured club race was a fun race where I could have dices with a lot of people and aim for the podium for real. In the Natz, I was just having a battle or two with one or two of the club racers. Yes I sorta had fun but I used to have more fun in Clubraces.
But if heaps of people were in the Natz, then yes, it could be fun like you are saying. More than a few have to take this step though.

Sorry Shaun, I know you are after some serious competitors in the Chamionship classes, but going by the MNZ Supplementary regs and race programs it looks like they'll be running Clubmans at all rounds except Pukekohe. Someone PLEEEEAASE correct me if I'm wrong.
I've checked my roster and I'm gonna be home for three rounds...I can't believe it. I'm thinking it would be a great way to crash in some new places and see some new hospitals.

Motoracer+ Slowpoke MotoR, do you think that maybe you limited your own amout of fun at the Nats by potentually setting your target results a little to high?
As you say some there are very serious ( Me when I ride the nats) but you must have also noticed all the good will to each other as per the Club Scene, and mate, you may not have been racing up the front, but from the races that I watched, you were doing a dam fine job.
And I am sure if you were to do it again, you would climb another step in your riding skills, and is that not what it is all about anyway, being as good as you can on what you have?
Slowpoke- Brilliant news! And No mate, just want to see our sport stay healthy, I do not give a toss who rides where, the clubs have the classes catered for they are the ones that set the schedules, and I am sure if it was going to interfare with the Main classes, 600+Superbike+F3 they would not run them, but on a side note there,
The clubs need our entry money to put the show on and stay in buisness, so any non serious racer that just wants to come along and watch some faster people do there thing, and have a SKID or two themself is actually a Sponsor of the main classes by putting up there entry fees
I would love to see all the Club scene riders in the nats, The Vic club is having massive turn outs this year, I think the club scene is the healthiest I have seen since I started 20 years ago, and I think they are doing a Brilliant job catering for all comers.
See ya

I think the $$$$$$$$$ do come into it, the entry fee is considerably higher than a club day and you spend a lot of time sitting around over 2 days to do three races so it is considered that what you get for your money isn't as good as a club day
A few also seem to think that if you're not going to do them all then why bother doing any of them
Re clubmans, my understanding is that it is up to each individual club as to what support class they run

I had my day from 70 to 83 . I have seen it on here time and time again , Nationals this and Nationals that ! I treated it all the same and wanted to win every bit as much at each. Travelling down south could have been done more I guess but I was never one to chase titles . (although I have won points races)
In those days we had heaps of street circuits to choose from as well.
I was always in the top bunch somewhere and the difference for me, between club and Nats, (as they put it) was that there were just more in the front bunch going for it. My lap times were no different. Points races were just another race ! Gaz.

Thank you for the kind an encouraging words Shaun. ATM every thing is dependent on funds but I will definetly reconsider my thoughts about the Nationals when I am ready to race again.
I do understand where you are coming from though. Good on ya for trying to uplift the sport by spreading the word.
Later.

they dont Run a Nats for the class i race.
Which is kinda shit. Even though StreetStock is a beginners class, there is alot of talent out there. There is also some great dicing between us. I had 4 postition changes in one lap. All mid corner stuff. Surely that sort of stuff is worth watching?
Once i get into the 600s and i can run (IF i can) at a deacent pace, I -might- do them.
cheers,
Glen

well you need to get your arse down to the south island rounds. there is a streetstock class for every south island round. think they had about 40 riders (the most for any class in the whole nationals) for the ruapuna round earlier this year.

Im doing the full nats this year and all going to plan next year.
But it is a heck of a commitment.
3 days per meeting and the travel time between meetings.
I must say Im not in agreement with the extra cost grumble--but Im seeing it more as a case of cost broken down into laps of the track availabble to me not number of races --And at national level theres a heck of a lot more laps available in practice than at any club meeting.
I think the extra $75 odd dollars to enter a national meeting is a drop in the bucket to the other costs of racing

Is there Pre 89 Jnr class at the Nats ?
Otherwise I could be keen for F3, even on my old dunger...haha
I want to get three meetings below my belt so I can race at Wangas this coming boxing day. They say street racing is much more dangerous, but at least there are no cars, everyone is going in the same direction and there are hay bales in front of lamp posts.....not like back in the day when I was a bit younger and had no worries.

yer there were 32 riders on the grid for streetstock last year, the next biggest class had only 17!!! They run streetstock at Ruapuna, Levels and Teretonga (thats all the rounds) for the nats
RG100!! - just go in F3, ya wont get last...

YODA and his buddies are doing a fantastic job with that scene down there.
I watched all those races last year, and there were riders that stood out like bogs balls to me
was fantastic to see

You seen this year's entry fees yet? All up gonna cost $970 for five rounds. Definately alot more than $75 a meeting, closer to $150 more than a club meeting. Yeah you do get that more laps than a club meeting, but not a heap more, you've got to remember its over 2 days aswell (or 3 if you use the friday practice day).
The best thing about the nationals is that everyone seems to step up their game. Even though at the previous club meeting they thought they were going at 110%, everyone seems to find an extra second or two which makes the competition so much more fierce. At this stage I will be doing all the south island rounds. But due to the recent change in date of the manfeild round I'm not sure if I will be able to justify the extra week off work to stay up in the NI. Will have to see closer to the time.

I would LOVE to come race down south. But work+lack of money are too great ATM. I'll get there oneday

SHIT 32 riders!! that would be great to race in. I race F3 at the club rounds already. Yeah I about mid - back of the pack on the 150.
But for all the time and money, racing F3 on a 150 doesn't work. I race to Win. If I raced purely for fun i wouldn't ever do nationals. Maybe we should try get a 150 national class??

I find it fun carving up all the newbie riders on their 400s and SVs in F3, and sure i race to win too, but i can't expect that to happen anytime soon as of lack of experience....
i spose i cant talk though, i brought my bikes and dad pays all the entry fees and petrol, etc.

I always had figured it would be exclusive in terms of entry, obviously I am not the fastest out there, but I am planning on doing it, where else will you get so much talent and experience in one place??
