View Full Version : Anyone - Nero 7 Premium Upgrade Nightmare

Does anyone have any info or tips on how I can get my Nero 7 Premium working? It was working perfectly until I upgraded to the latest version, Nero 7 Premium Reloaded. Below is a description of the issue, a copy of what I e-mailed them. I've made a little dent into the problem since sending the e-mail, but I still don't have a full working version! (I installed the Trial version off the nero site, and entered my serial number in place of the trial one). I am able to see it in the program menus, and run some of the programs of Nero 7, but I am missing alot of the included programs and I still can't run the ProductSetup utility.

I am having serious problems with Nero 7 Premium, and I wondered if you could supply me with a full Nero 7 Premium Reloaded installation file (and anything else to make up the full program). I have used the VIP support form to submit 2 help requests - I only sent them yesterday and today, so I'm not expecting a reply for a day or 2, but I had 2 problems, the second a more serious version of the first. Nero 7 Premium was working perfectly until I updated to the latest versions (using the upgrade file I downloaded from the Nero site). After the upgrade the Nero ProductSetup utility stopped working, accessing it through the start menu or the StartSmart utility had no effect (I clicked the launch icon/shortcut and there was some HDD activity, then nothing). I then sent my first VIP support request. I then removed Nero 7, and reinstalled it using the latest upgrade downloaded file off the site, and after this installation there were no program groups in the programs section, and there were no shortcuts on the desktop. It had installed Nero 7 Premium but made no links or program entries, almost like it wasn't there (I could see it if I used Windows Explorer and browsed to c:\ Program Files).

I uninstalled the program (using "Add or Remove Programs", in the "Control Panel"), and then reinstalled it from scratch using the downloaded upgrade of the latest version from the Nero site, but still the same thing - No shortcuts or program menus/links. I repeated this process quite a few times. Then as a last attempt, I uninstalled the whole program, cleaned up all temporary installation files, internet cache, etc (using Norton CleanUp) so to have a "clean" platform to install on. I then installed the FIRST version I downloaded when I purchased the program, but that still installed leaving NO shortcuts or program groups/menus (no visible links anywhere in windows for Nero). I then ran the latest upgrade version of Nero 7 Premium while that first version was still "installed", hoping to upgrade, but STILL no shortcuts, menus or links...

If the only solution is for me to download the files, please tell me which ones to get first and which to install first. How do I go about installing it, do I install the upgrade available on the site, or do I install a base version and then install the upgrade on top of that? I have tried this though, as well as all other possibilities I can think of...

Please help me, I have spent at least 10 hours installing, uninstalling, typing help requests and trying to get Nero working again, like it was before my update, but I can't get anything going. I have NO part of Nero installed, and I really want and need it to be installed properly again, it is very frustrating having paid for something that now isn't working.

Tried a system restore to the time before you installed the update?

I can't really help you out, but I upgraded to Nero 7 and then went back to Nero 6 very quickly as it crashed my system and caused all sorts of bugger ups.

Hope you come right soon.

I had heaps of issues with Nero 7 and ended up going back to 6.

Edit: Just read Outlawtorn's post.. I see a trend here!

Use "convertXtoDVD" far better to use for making dvd's.

Thanks for the comments.

I had Nero 7 Premium running perfectly, and I liked the software even though I didn't use it much. It was just an update that screwed it.

I e-mailed Nero tech support, not really expecting a solution. I received an answer in less than a day (and equally as fast each subsequent time I contacted them), and it actually sorted out the issue. I don't know why after the update I couldn't run one of the essential parts of Nero (Nero ProductSetup), but the solution was to run Nero CleanTool, then reinstall. For some reason the update died, and even after removing Nero using Windows' "Add or Remove Programs", there was some residual part left in the registry and possible the hard drive as well. I even ran Norton CleanUp and Norton WinDoctor to remove any erroneous links or data from the registry and file system, but it never found any problem with the Nero info left behind. Nero CleanTool gets rid of everything Nero related, so you can install from a clean slate. I'd suggest running Nero CleanTool if you are reinstalling, or even if you just want to remove nero permanently. I'd choose CleanTool over even the Uninstall option in Nero ProductSetup (the obvious way to uninstall Nero), if you want it removed for good.

PS: The great Nero customer service / tech support relates ONLY to VIP Support, available to paid Nero customers only. Sorry bro ;)
