Anyone know where I can get a slipper clutch for a 2006 R1. I know the R1-SP has one in; is that a yamaha part or will any one do.

Some of the 'Merican sites have online parts catalogs... They should have the info you require for the reverse torque limiting device...
Here's one I found some info a while back...

On the site they say "In order to assemble the clutch kit you need the original friction material and basket ". What is that?....

Basket carries the plates as far as I know. Friction material is the plates ?
Why do you want, or need a slipper clutch mate ?

As you know have alot of trouble with my left hand . Find it hard to change gears down and when I do manage to do this I can't let the clutch go out slowly. I have to just drop it and this caused me to lock up the rear a few times.

Aha - all clear now. I didn't think you would be banging it down gears close to the limiter.
Have you tried keeping a few revs on it when changing down, so it doesn't drop to idle when the clutch disengages ? That might help.

I have ordered some new levers that can adjust quite closely to the handle bars. They might help..cause that means I can grip the bar and the clutch at the same time and let it out slowly. Will see how they go first before getting the slipper clutch.
Not reving the bike to the limiter...going up the takkas in second to about 9k. on the 35 corners I need to drop to 1rst and this is where it sometimes happens. Will try keeping revs up next time...it does drop to low cause it takes me about 3 seconds to change to 1rst.

You blipping the throttle? Not sure if you right hand is bad but thats just applying a little throttle to bring the engine revs up before dropping/releasing the clutch
I know you hand was damaged in an accident am I right? What have you used to rehabilitate it, I am currently using a powerball to get some strength in my hands and wrists as have been off the bike(longer rides) for a long time and after todays few hours in the saddle were a little sore.

aahh man..my left hand is pretty farked...had 70% 3rd degree burns..nearly lost my arm. All I can pritty much do is move my thumb and index a bit.Have about 85% function in my right arm, so is good.
I normally blip the throttle when gearing down..but only that moment as I am pushing it down..once pushed into first, it still takes a bit of time 1-2 seconds to position my hand to let go of the clutch..in that time the revs has dropped again I'm sure.

try one and you will love it:banana:
have a look www.suterracing.com
I guess you won't find many dealers in OZ or NZ, so try to google for anti hopping kupplung (german for slipper clutch).
if you got the money go for one, otherwise you can increase the idlee speed (if possible) as well!! :2thumbsup
good luck

Hey Darkman,
Just an off the wall thought.
Have you considered trying a set up like one arm bandit and shifting your clutch to the right clip on to be thumb operated?
You still have the advantage that you can steer with two arms but it would take away the clutching duties that are causing you issues without needing to spend huge wad on a slipper clutch.
I don't find the slipper clutch to be a huge benefit on the road to be honest, in the tight low speed, low gear, high rev stuff it can still lock up a bit and the bikes I've ridden without one (CBR600RR, SV's, Fireyawn etc) are no more difficult to ride.
A slipper clutch is easily worth a few sets of tyres.
Edit: I note that you say your left thumb is a-ok. You could have a left side thumb clutch.

not a bad idea, couple of blokes up here are running thumb rear brakes :2thumbsup but I have doubts you will go cheaper. Brembo for example charge you an arm and a leg for a thumb brake pump (daumen bremspumpe)
http://www.zupin.de/ka_brembo.html
click on kupplungspumpen
btw:
here the STM/zupin link http://www.zupin.de/ka_stm.html and if you hit road you find also a clutch for your R1.
have fun

I have heard people talk about thumb operated clutches, but never seen them. I have ordered some new adjustable levers that I hope will help me with the problem. The slipper clutch is just that little bit of extra help..heard some guys say you can bang it down, without using the clutch at all.
My left thumb does work(50%), but not very strong. Will see how I go with the new levers and then give onearmbandit a PM.

OAB operates his clutch on the right grip, rather than your 50% left thumb.
Is the R1 cable or hydro clutch?
