Rimutaka bike down (23 September)

Not sure who it was. By the time I went past the 2 Police, 1 fire truck and an ambo were there.

Looked like a silver kawasaki sports bike but I didn't see it clearly so I could be wrong. Bike was wedged under the armco barrier on the wellington side heading up the hill.

Hope he/she is OK.

Man, this is getting embarrassing, every single weekend without fail. How long before the cops station someone there every weekend and/or start escorting us over the hill.
We'll have no one to blame but ourselves.

Yeh I agree...... Its going to come down to having to go eslewhere to prove you have balls, or whatever, and want to see how far you can go whilst experiencing the ultimate challenge in danger and skill to survive etc etc ball waffle etc....

Yeh... I quess we will just have to risk using SH1 again for our thrills. EEK !

Two weekends ago. First time I seen those safety fences and I wasn't too keen on the wind trying to push me into them along the coast out of Pukerua Bay. Had to keep speeding up to get the bike and pillion back on the lefthand side of the road and its bloody narrow around the coast road. What I was concerned about was how low those fences are. If you hit them at any angle its odds on you would be thrown into oncoming traffic. Forget the cheescutter effect.

PS I hope the rider was OK. From local experience and feedback theres a lot of oil etc on the Takas even at the best of times. Have to be so careful.

The Silver Bike was an SV & the rider is ok, well pretty much. Not a KBer. He’s not sure what happened apparently, but I doubt he was ‘on a mission’.

He is a good rider so it does go to show how dangerous that road is even for a regular & how people just have to be cautious. We are all prone to not seeing oil or whatever if putting a pace on. More pace less room for the unexpected.

yep...even though it says 80k along there, if traffic allows, i usually sit between that and 100k. ive never had any wind strong enough to blow me towards them, but that could be different two-up. i dont really notice that cheese cutter along there unless i am trapped between two cars with not much room, and then i ride hard left where i can...totally opposite to my normal positioning. when im riding north [the water on my left] i notice them a bit more as then i get pushed towards them a bit.
