Hello fellow, Hb-ites
Now that the weather is warming up and the evenings are getting longer it is time to get out and see the country side. We are thinking of a regular Wednesday ride, meeting at 6pm and riding for an hour or so, finishing up with a feed at one of our locals, fish and chips on the beach or whatever. It will be open to all regardless of ability but nutters need not show up, as they won't be welcome.
Is anyone keen to join us? Got suggestions for routes?
Post your feedback in here and lets get ridiing

Sadly, I see no point in attending this if it ever happens, only because I won't be there.

Cheers! For a while there, I thought it would just be MSTRS and me riding the highways and byways alone. Does that day and time suit ok? Any ideas of routes?

Who needs maps? The saying, "Well I did this road 20/30 years ago and it was fine" works well. Except where that road has been demolished, eh Dad?

Hi G4E
Wednesday suits us (read me), better at this stage - but hey no reason why people who want to, can't do 2 midweek rides.
If weather permits we will meet at BP Taradale Rd at 5.45ish ready to leave at 6pm this Wed Oct 4. I have the route worked out for the first ride, but feel free to offer suggestions guys.
After about 3 mths without the bike I am dead keen to be out there again... hope I'm not too rusty...
Lets all hope that the latest forecast is incorrect
C ya Wed peeps:woohoo:

Had a chat to Speights-Bud and he thinks he will come along. Depends on work. He was a bit grumpy at 6 this morning as he went out in the van. Hahaha I told him it was going to be a wet day so he left da bike at home. hahahahah :-)

So we could have a few bikes. It could grow.

Why don't you call Craig at Twin City and let him know you are putting a slower group together and he can put an add in the shop window?

Thanks for that. Good safe riding.Very good lead John. Compared to some of the group rides Ive been on, it was awesome. The only signs of excess testostrone was in some of the bikes, not the riders.Love the sound of that Z1 on song down Dartmoor. Looking forward to next Wednesday. Cheers W

Yes, i counted my own bike, but I may not have counted the guy who is doing the 1000 miler, Steve.
Prolly won't stop at the Puketap for a feed again tho, after an hour we were still waiting for our food!!!
Got our $$ back and went home to bacon and eggs - but it did mean I had tio ride in the dark - first time for everything!
Thanks for all turning up, guys. I have to admit that I organised this for purely selfish reasons - I need the saddle time - and it is so much easier to turn up if others are counting on you to do so.
Good to put faces to names and what a variety of bikes we had.. er, and, ah, riding skills...

I was not at all worried about finding some gravel, that is what weekends are for :2thumbsup
I was stoked to be allowed to ride with Road bikes ( I did feel a bit out of place though), and it is just nice to ride with people with the same likes and that enjoy the same thing.
Also a big thanks to you both for organising it, and keeping the speed down so I could actually ride as part of the group :2thumbsup

See you all next time

You are welcome, Zukin. They have to keep their speed down because I don't do fast.....
As for being out of place, what rot! Your bike has the same number of wheels as mine, unless I didn't see it properly - quite on the cards actually, as my new glasses won't fit on under my helmet:whistle:
The ride is designed for less experienced riders and those that don't want to travel at warp speed! If you fit that criteria, you are in the right place.
I look forward to next weeks outing, maybe I can get a ride or two in in the week end, so i don't hold you guys up so much on the twisties..

:shit:

So where did you go??? lol
Full report please

In many directions - seperately, it would appear, silly man!
The destination was the road, you, hXc and Mstrs did the other day. Original plan was ...
HW2, turn off at whateveritis Rd, do that, come off on HW 50 at Maraekakaho and head home. MSTRS changed the plan to Middle Rd, via Pakipaki, Te Aute Trust Rd, HW2, Whateveritis Rd, HW 50, then home....got it? Then neglected to tell all of us his new plan and so the fun begins....

Grumpy and I only got half the story, did Middle Rd (from Havelock Nth), Otane Rd, HW 2 as per instructions, got too cold so headed home
Mstrs and G4E did extra miles looking for us,as they thought we were lost, broken down or worse... not even, mate, we just followed instructions, but were wondering all the while where the f*** everyone else was:innocent:
finally met up with Mstrs and hXc back at home ... so much for a nice family outing

Oh well, it was a nice ride and no harm was done (to me, anyway, although I'm sure that my dearly beloved's blood pressure was pretty high by the time I got home)
We could do it all again next week, just so you don't feel left out:dodge:

So you don't stick together in a group then Yungatart? Heck you should ride with Ulysses then I always found them a bit like that never much of a common bond everyone doing their own thing and not completing rides together. I said I thought you'd be a Ulyssian and now I know you are young enough to be only a junior member.

yungatart
27th October 2006, 07:10
I don't think I'll be joining Ulysses any time soon..
Our group rides have always been group rides before, it was just a temporary glitch
We'll ride together again next Wed, wanna come and join us?

MSTRS
27th October 2006, 07:45
So you don't stick together in a group then Yungatart?

We try to....but some people let themselves drop back out of sight & then take the wrong access road to Middle Rd......
I did the ride on my own in reverse direction just in case the two lost riders got the cover instruction the wrong way round. Strange, but I never caught up to them:bye:

Grumpy
27th October 2006, 14:36
I used to do a lot of group riding with a club I was in a while ago and these hicups would happen from time to time until we found a way around it.

Basically, if you knew you weren't the last in the group and you had lost sight of the headlight behind you, you stopped when reaching the next turn and waited until you were sure the next rider along was aware of the next direction. Generally if everyone did this there was never anyone left behind with no idea of the route. It also meant that you didn't have to have the whole group stopped at an intersection. The ride flowed nicely and everybody would get to their destination and the slower riders wouldn't feel like they were holding the whole group up.

That's kind of what happened here. We got to the next intersection with no idea on where everyone had gone. Have to admit though it was a bloody nice ride but I can imagine the worry for those looking for us. Sorry about that guys. I hope it didn't stuff your ride up too much. Maybe next time I go tail end charlie I'll take more notice of the instructions instead of :zzzz:

Gixxer 4 ever
27th October 2006, 15:04
Yep that's how it is suppose to work. however make sure you only glance from time to time cos I find it hard to concentrate when looking in the mirror a lot. Not so bad at slow speed but when it gets up there it turns to custard fast.
Also the second rider stops at the intersection and waves the rest along. Then picks up the tail and follows.
I didn't mind the blatt back to look for you Mark

It is great but I have a bit of research to do cos it is not handling like the other one. I need to get my manual back and start reading. I should do the lift for the rear shock but I think there is more than that. Love the power and now the rear tyre is on the right way round, long story and not my doing, I have a bit more confidence in it. I miss my gearbox in the other bike. It was like silk and this one is not. Will drop in and have a coffee over the weekend.

Too much compression dampening ?? perhaps

what tyre pressure do you run?

Take more preload out. I would take half the preload you have on, off. Yes it will be a bit soft but then you can start to wind it on again and you will find the sweet spot. Hard to find it from the hard setting but easy from soft. Let us know how it works out. Could catch up over the weekend and have a look. Cheers

Could be Dave but the preload is turned a long way down and I think the set-up will work once the bike is softer. It really is hard at the moment.

Think John uses 36. I am on 38 and not having the same problems. I have a lot less preload. Time will tell.

John has done a bit more work on it and we swapped bikes today. I found it hard to turn in at slow speed but once we cranked it up a bit it was fine. I think he has found good middle ground. We suspect the head stock bearings could be a bit suspect. Can't feel anything obvious but time will tell. And the front tyre has an agressive wear pattern so it could be that. Anyway it went well today. Aye MSTRS....:)...

They are fine, of course! But that was an education! I now know how far over I can lean my bike - not that I'm sure I want to repeat the process.

I knew I was too fast, so dropped it down a gear, then another, leaning more and more. I really thought I was going to bin. I buttoned off on the throttle and still the bloody thing kept going faster - well, that's how it seemed to me. The only gear left was first, and the back wheel locks up at that kinda speed. The only option I had was to lean more and focus on where I wanted to go!

Still, with superhuamn skill, I stayed upright and got through it.:woohoo: It kinda knocked my confidence tho, so I am off to ride HW50 as soon as time allows - familiar roads and all that.:scooter:
Felt sorry for poor old Mstrs and Wasp27 watching it all unfold in front of them, it didn't feel pretty, so it must have looked bloody awful!

Had a look at the road. Nice ride but a bit short. If I make it to the ride this week, and people are interested, I will lead. We will add some bits of road in from here and there to make the trip long enough. We will have to back track some of the road but that should work ok. Lets see what the week brings.

I should have the bike mid next week, The ship has docked today apparently. Its been a long wait. The 1st ETA was Nov 23rd, and that was after waiting 6 weeks, only to find that the ship had been delayed.I was expecting it to be here Thursday, but that changed also, but with the ship actually being in port this time ? so I am told, ...it should be sweet for next week.

Looks like the weather is going to be shit all weekend which is a bummer for anyone wanting to go riding, but makes me not feel so bummed out that bike has been delayed again, I would have been pineing if it was a beautiful weekend, still hope the weather is not as bad as forcast, it would be nice to get outside and do things.

Awesome ride tonight!!
Good to see some new faces/bikes.
I'm sure we have the friendliest ride /crew in the country.
Thanks heaps Wasp27 for leading me home...I was so relaxed and loving it that I actually caught myself singing!!
Can we do that again, please?

For those that are wondering about xmas rides.... We do intend to carry on with our scheduled Mid Week rides (I know that some of us will no doubt be going away for holidays etc) If you want to ride.... just turn up.... same place ... same time. Just to let you know I will be along tomorrow evening.Got my hands on the bike fri evening and rode 590km since then, so I shouldn't be to much of a menace mingling with you more eperienced riders.( that doesn"t sound right, its stuff all experience)
Will just get dropped if you put the pace on to much which is fine by me, I'll just cruise and do my own thing.I know tha back country roads quite well coming from a cycling background.
Looking forward to it, gotta be better than sittin on the back of MSTRS bike with that doggey suspension.(just givin u shit).Really I loved every minute of it.

I will leave the BP petrol station on Taradale Road at 7.30am on Boxing day. Will leave Wanganui around 3 ish to come home but that is up to you. Swap cell numbers and we can send txt to organise this on the day. If you want to go earlier or later just do so. Send me a note and I will know how many bikes we will have. Well i flew up to Whangarai last Tuesday to pick up the new bike. Had a great ride down to Auckland and stayed the night before i made for the Coromandel. This would have to be one of the best rides i have had. Great roads and great scenery. Parked up in Whitianga for a couple of days and thought it was great. Next part of the trip was gonna be a big one. As i left Whitianga and travelled down around the Bay of Plenty and up to East Cape and down to Gisborne. Gee if this was a way to get used to a bike this was it. Awesome The veiws were magnificent. Stayed the night before the final ride in to Napier.

If it was Sunday then it probly was me. ( I was on that road on Saturday as well ) I went for a ride with Speight_bud. He was leading on the 250. I was impressed with his corner speed. He is a good rider. Anyway we went out for a ride to blow the cobwebs away as it was his 18th birthday the night before. We both needed some air.

I needed the ride time. Starting to learn to ride this beast. Lost a bit of confidence after the drop in Taupo but think I am back on track. looking forward to the next track day.
Looking forward to seeing the new bike robertydog. Love it when new bikes arrive in the bay. I am going to make every effort to get to the ride this week. it has been 5 weeks since I got away from work for a ride mid week. Time to put my foot down.

What that man said.

What a great choice of roads Alice.

That R1 is the go Robertydog. Very nice. I loved the blast home. The detector went off around the prison hence the braking that was done. It was interference from something. I have trained myself to break hard when I hear anything, hence the panic. Anyway good training for us all to stay off set when riding with a good gap between bikes. It was nice to crank it up a bit on the road home.

I think tomorrow will be a better day for haveing the ride tonight.

C U all next week and thanks.

The poor wee 250 was going just about as fast as it could coming home, was fun thought, its cool how the cars move to the left to let us past. Actually it was full throttle. I wouldn't have been sitting on that speed for so long on my own, would have been worried about the instant loss of license, and I still just have a L license.(only meant to travel max 70) what a joke. Note to self. Wednesday rides are slow rides.

I think you would be safe in the middle of the group. The lead bike is the one they will go for. Mind you we were only a tad over the limit.

That sounds like the go. So MSTRS could you lead us to the place Dooly hangs out next week and then, maybe, Wasp27 could get the map out and do a recognisance look and put a ride together to fill the rest of the day.

Could them that have to cook for the plastered ones please prearrange food and or takeaways to be delivered. Also leave the bird life alone next week and make sure your nuts are done up. It is not good to have the slippery fluids all over your bike let alone everyone else's.

As this is a public forum I am sure you are making refrence to the lengh of the ride.

................Whatever else did you think I possibly meant................

As if I haven't said enough.....................Remember to come out and support Zukin on the 3rd. I am going as far as Gisborne. Then home.....maybe..........home or not........ Opotiki and home or stay the night, and then home or........... so come along.

Also I am going to Masterton to ride home with them on the 24th. Going down in the morning and ride home with them and the others. So get off your wallets and pay for a space and come along.

Wellllllllllll ................. you booked yet............... ..........

Thanks
If anyone is interested there is some free accommodation left if you prefer to ride down on Friday night.
But we dont leave Masterton until 10.30am so its not an early start, so it gives you plenty of time to get down there on Sat Am

Cheers Scott
