let me guess....SR250?

Whatever, the pricing is right. Competition for the GN250, and the 250 SOHC Yammy engine is a pretty solid beast. Anything that makes entry level motorcylcing more attractive is good.

yeah, the reason i got the GN over the yammy a few years ago was
1-the GN has a 4 valve head (i think)
2-the GN was much cheaper.
but the Gn is built out of scrap metal, by slaves in china, its not even made my suzuki!

I have heard that the GN250's are no longer being brought into the country for not meeting saftey critera. The new Yama 250 is brought in by Yamaha NZ and from what I heard will be in a similar price range (please be warned all goosip)

What engine is that? That's not the SR250 engine is it?

It looks good and should be nicely set up for a ride-to-work. I can see that being good business for yamaha at that price.

Where's the blurdy Honda then?

its the XT225 engine i think...the GNs are dangerous man, especially with standard tires in the wet!
mine stepped out at 90kph on SH1 once!

are you sure it's a 250, not a 225?? the only info i can find is on a yamaha scorpio 225

According to it's styling, my guess it's a Made in India bike.
This thread is missing spec sheet and model details.

The engine looks different to the XT225. Right hand cover is different and that big thing around the top of the cam tunnel isn't on the XT226. Starter motor mounting looks different as does the sump.

Hi Blackbird. That was me at Okoroire on Sunday with a customer who I sold the black FZ1-N to. The only two on the road in NZ at present except one that is doing the bike mag rounds at the moment.

WE don't have much info on them at the moment. The bikes will be here in a few days and we should have all the specs by then. I just wanted to get it known that they are arriving soon as we have had a lot of inquiries about them.

So your importing a bike that you don't know anything about, hmmm confidence inspiring, altho, knowing yama singles, it'll be reliable, and slow of course, really, really slow

"D" FZ1

Yamaha knows all about what they are importing, they just haven't released all the specs to us yet.

Y'reckon many owners will be braking often enough , hard enough, from high enough speeds for rear brake fade to be a problem ?

Might just get one for the missus - she's a very learner at the moment and finds the VTR a bit daunting.

So is Honda's VTR 250 still the best new 250 available in NZ? (yeah I know it's also the most expensive!)

Sorry - I thought that was going to be a parallel twin..i.e. gutless using 25 year old technology. If it's a 4 cyl then I stand corrected

since when is the vtr a 4 cyl? I don't think anyone is making a 4 cyl 250 anymore, I'd rather have a parallel twin over a heavy V config engine, even though a just bought a bloody heavy double V configured engine lol

V-Twin better than parallel twin
V4 better than inline 4
V6 better than inline 6
there's a pattern here if you look closely
V8 better than inline 8

I never said VTR was 4 cyl - just hinting that V-twin nicer than parallel twin.

As if you didn't bloody well know :)

ok i'm gonna take the serious line for once, cause i've ridden and owned both a honda vtwin and i've got a parallel twin now, and the parallel made up for the lack of torque, by being about 15kg lighter than the V and we're riding bikes so it's all about power to weight, I'm sure a gpx would be much quicker than a honda vte250 through a set of twisties, and your argument is flawed, do you really think a 2.5 litre V6 would be quicker than a 6 pot 2.5l nissan skyline?

Don't get serious when I'm taking the piss - I'll just get bored and wander off.

And I don't care how many ponies a Nissan has - it's still a Nissan - an old dude's beige car!

Dunedin weather getting you down or are you just descended from presbyterians?

Had to laugh at the weekend - 7 of us out on ouir bikes (6 on 250cc 1 on 600cc.)

Met a dude on a Rocket III - quick burst of mental arith. We had combined displacement 2100cc 7 bikes and he STILL had a 200cc advantage!

Cant use that as a point , theres so many variations of V6's and straight 6's
(turbo'd , VVT etc)

Also did some checking - there's only 2 kg difference in dry weight between the Honda and Kwak.....

is this the new honda and the new kwaka?? as I'm talking about the old honda V's and the old kwaka twins, cause there was definitely a big weight difference between those, but either way they don't make good 250's anymore, wish they'd make 4's like they used to, there would be a huge market for them in NZ

Yeah - comparison is based on what's available new - the GPX is 138kg Dry weight and the VTR is 140kg - course with the Kwak you get a full fairing and it's $1,000 cheaper - swings and roundabouts really - Personally I like the sound of the VTR and the torque coupled with the low weight means it punches above it's weight from a standing start. I've also put a little Givi fairing on the bike which makes a difference (for me) of about 10kph at the top end.

So is this new Yamaha a 250 or a 225? there seems to be a wee bit of conflict of opinion about that.

the only thing they've changed on the new GPX is the indicators (big out-in-the-air ones).. and they're charging about 7k for it too..

I think i'll choose the Suzuki Satria (In the philipines knowen as "Raider") F150

As it is around $500AUD cheaper than the Scorpio-Z and it has:

A twin-cam 4-stroke engine (DOHC)

Dry Weight: 95kg

Horse Power: 16bhp

Tourqe: 1.22 KGF.M

Brakes: Disc front and back

Cooling: Oil cooled

Top speed: Easily over 130kph many reports of the top speed being 140kph (On the flat straight) and some saying with minor modifications it can reach around 160-168kph

Suspension: Monoshock

Digital Speedo and a masive RPM meter

You can find pics at http://www.bikepics.com/suzuki/raider150/

New price over there is probally under $2,400AUD

Start a petition to suzuki to import some:P
