howdy... im meant to be picking up a '92 fireblade in a short while, i took a look on www.bikez.com and it says that the '92 cbr's were reduced effect :(
that simply will not do! lol
does anyone know how to liberate said fireblade? i think theres just a butterfly or throttle restrictor in the carb but i havent had a decent look at the bike so i dont know. Anyone done something like this before?

I thought lack of horsepower was a standard feature on honda's?
Ask WINJA, he'll know.

heh, too true. but im getting brotherly rates seeing as im buying of my brother... that and it only has 15000k on the clock... so im pretty stoked. That and because hes my big brother... i can give him the cash and then use the "i bought your bike" line to get out of the daily beatings :Pokey:
besides! lack of hp can be fixed... kinda... you cant fix honda badge though :P

Why do you think you are getting a reduced effect CBR900? I thought they were only sold in countries with HP limits for learners etc?

i saw reduced effect on bikez and asked my dear brother, he replied that he believed it was restricted (its an aussie market bike i think) and that i should find out how its limited and then take a look and see if his bike has a limiter on it.

I've never heard the term "reduced effect" in relation to motorcycles. Bikez.com defines it as follows:
In some countries certain motorcycle models are sold with less horse power to comply with legal or insurance regulations in that country. For instance, a country might allow 16-year-olds to drive 125 ccm bikes with no more than 15 hp. The bike would then have to be modified to output no more than 15 hp. In another example insurance companies may not want to insure bikes with more than 100 hp, or may increase insurance rates for these bikes to the extent that most people would want to buy a reduced-effect version of their bike instead.
It may pay you to phone up a Honda dealer and ask them what they were restricted to if no-one on KB has the answer, either way I reckon the power will be plenty for you to begin with if you're upgrading from a Ginny. The 92 Fireblade is still considered to be one of the best Blades ever made. Enjoy the increased power and stay upright!

my cousin had a 92 blade, it was nice but bloody heavy, i only rode it down the motorway but it made my 250 feel like a broom stick after riding it, i'd be carefull moving from the GN to that

From Ginny to Fireblade.....and you think your not going to have enough power? I went from an RF900 and GSXR750 to a blade, and have yet to have reason to complain about its HP output

A great bike and definitely the pick of the early 90s sports bikes. If it is reduced power it must be an import from some weird country (France perhaps). The local ones and most overseas one are full power (about 115 rwhp). If I remember rightly most of the NZ new 92s were destined for the UK market and had mph speedos on them.

nah, km/h speedo on this one.

When they bought them out they were the ultimate hooligans bike and had a fairly mental power delivery, A bit tame by todays standard maybe but tread carefully dude. Big bikes can bite hard.

i aint complaining dude. Im a greasemonkey wannabe, so if theirs something i can do on a bike to make it go or handle better (even if its completely uneccesarry) ill try to do it, assuming funds are available. teh blade is plenty powerful as it is, it doesnt NEED more horsepower, but if i was going on what i NEED, why would i ever want anything above a gsxr400...

If Its Got A Kmh Speedo Itll Be Ok , Those Bikes Will Always Be Down On Power Cause The Engine Is Based On A Japanese Domestic Market 750 Aero , To Liven It Up Put A Free Flowing Can On It And Go Up 1 Jet Size , If It Dont Run Right You May Need To Open Your Muffler And Tap The Perf In With A Ball Peen Hammer Just A Bit At Opposite Ends And 180 Deg Apart , Good Luck With That Heapo Shit

I've never heard of any restriction from factory on a 92 blade... :Pokey: u dont need to fit a 17" rim for a good tyre, there is plenty about that will fit them... also you'll loose ya speedo drive.

unlikely.....I think it was the Swiss market?? that was (and is???) restricted to 100hp...poor bastards. The only HP restriction that bike should have is how far you twist the throttle grip.
So lock wire the grip on so it can't rotate on the throttle tube and ring it's fucking neck!

Just as a matter of interest, how much are you/did you pay for the 'blade?

Compared to a GN it will be bloody potent & heavy. Spend all your money into making sure the tyres are good & not flattened off & good condition - would be time on a 14yr old bike to arbitrarily replace the steering head bearings & re oil the forks & shock.
This bike will have over 6 times the power of the GN & frankly is a crazy step up. But no wait, I’m man enough. . .
-- Ahh, old post & still sez GN250 so good call.

errm, im buyin the thing next year.... gettin brothely rates ($5500) so im happy the bike has been maintained religously by my bro, so i have a good idea of where its worn and torn. the tyres still have like 8mm of tread on them though :)
As for a crazy step up, im sure ill learn after a couple un intentional powerstands.... honest :P :done:

5.5k is pretty good for a 92, if its in original condition... i've seen a few sell on trademe for 7k upwards. i just like them cause of what they are... a 14 year old bike that u can still have a lot of fun, they look quite good considering the age and not many people have one, unlike some other bikes!
