Hi all -

A friend of mine just sent me a text telling me to be careful if I was going over to the Waiarapa today because there's been an oil spill on the hill overnight.

I haven't been able to confirm this (perhaps someone else knows more) but it's probably something to be aware of if you're heading over that way today or tomorrow (Oct 1 ride)!

Ride safe, everyone!

PS - might see some of y'all on the ride tomorrow (unless it's wet, then I'm gonna wuss out like a newbie who's only been over the Takas once...which is what I am!)

Short mention in today's paper. "Diesel tanker spill at 9pm caused chaos as cars slid near the summit.."
Police were amazed there were no crashed as it was very slippery.
So just how much did this Sod spill?

And any investigation into the cause or consequences for any negligence ?

I've fallen off on a spill caused by a diesel tanker. They DON'T press charges, believe me.

Yea but you can sue them for negligence and get money for your bike and gear :Pokey:

The council could sue them for the clean up costs but its probably not worth it for them.

The council isn't interested aand my lawyer didn't want to take $10k off me for something I'd likely lose, particularly when the insurance paid out happily.

I think you'll find it was just an Austin Allegro that parked up for 5 minutes.

rode over there gingerly today at 2pm from North to South... didn't see any rainbow colour patches... but then again I wasn't going quick.
