Hi there,
FXR is a nice bike, but you might also want to consider either an RG150 or KR150. It really depends on your budget

RGV150 but you'd be looking at maybe $300-$400 to bring it up
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports/auction-71938918.htm

FXR150, but again a couple of hundred dollars to get down
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports/auction-71513320.htm

FXR's are generally more expensive (a quick search on trademe will prove it), they are four stroke so are more reliable, but RG and KR area two stroke so you gotta watch the oil. Try ringing a few of the motorcycle dealers around Wellington. TwinCam in Pram is good for service, but they don't have many if anysmall road bikes.
Are you after a sports or a crusier and what is the price range?
Good Luck with the hunt,
Matt

with up to $2500 you got a huge lot of bikes you can choose from. You could afford pretty much any of the 150cc bikes, or you could get a 250cc for around $2300. Are you after a sports or cruiser? and if a sport bike, full fairings and dont care?
Matt.
P.S. Are you a student or a grown-up?

i'm not too bothered about cruiser or sports, i prefer the sports bikes personally but it is not a huge issue for me.

i'm 14, will be 15 next month so looking for one fairly soon. trying not to get something not to small either as i am 6ft

welcome alex.

Remember that you'll need to spend a fair bit (say $700-$1000 depending on what you get) on protective gear as well, so figure that into your budget.

I'd say go for the fxr.

I see you also need an avatar... ;)

Ya, already got my HJC helmet and gloves, just need a jacket now, looking at some of the coruda jackets on trademe, suppose to be excellent buys (can anybody comment?).

Am definitley keen on the FXR but its trying to find one in wellington region that is a problem, was bidding on one a few days back only to have the guy withdraw the auction with an our to run...incredibly annoying

can anybody also comment in regards to the FXR about if they are comfortable to ride and how big/small they are?

A friend has also told me to keep an eye out for GN250's i believe he said, had a quick check on trademe and they seem to be about $3000. any assistance would be greatly appreciated

thanks guys

alex

Cordura will be fine for you (although leather is best in a spill)
GN250's are about $3300 brand new - personally I don't like them but they are an excellent beginner's bike. They do hold their price well but don't be paying more than $2000 for a newish one

go to twin cam. Do you know where that is, they got a nice cordua jacket for $260 and it fit me perfect for my height, but i'm quite skinny.

Or,

If twin cam hasn't got what you need,

Stop in at " Hi Torque Cycles "

2-4 Ihakara St Paraparaumu. Its right next to the southern mobil petrol station.

Pays to do some looking around first :)

FXR 150. great bike. would suit you perfect. as long as you don't mind the mountain bike looks it has!

Hahah.
Matt, why aren't you at school? have you got computer class at the moment?

Hi - I was looking at jackets and things on trademe a month ago. Then I went into Cycle Treads adn they had several $300+ jackets at 50% price as end of line (big choice of sizes, styles and colours too - armourtek general ones and italian racing style). Even new an offer for the dririder aspen was only $170 - I've seen some people after that kind of cash on trademe. Some boots were down from $150 to only 49 bucks - although only in size 9.
So I would definitely look in the shops first.
Both Mt Eden cycels and Haldanes here also offered me great deals on gear if I bought a 2nd hand bike - either free kit with a CB250 or 1/2 with cheaper bikes - worth a think.
Also they had 94 GN250s for $2700 - with the security of buying from a dealer. Pays not to write off the shops too early and rush to trademe, although I have also seen many overpriced bikes in the shops too.

... having said that I got me a trademe bike and boots in the end anyway

Thanks for the Advice 90's, i recently checked out a couple of shops and some of the gear was a fair bit cheaper than i had originally expected, however these shops seemed to be very bare bones when it camer to <250cc Bikes...a little dissapointing, the only place i have seen any really was about a month ago in Lower Hutt at TSS and they seemed to only stock Hyosung Bikes @ $5000+ and a Yamaha Scorpio(i think) at $3750+ Onroad Costs. Both of these far out of my price range. finding a low CC bike in the wellington region for under 2500 bux seems to be a mission!!

90s may i ask how much your Rg150 cost??

My RG cost $1500 but I consider it a real bargain. The previous owner had paid $1900 a few months before, but dropped it, although the damage was minimal (wing mirrors smashed etc). It was out of brake fluid and needed little things but after I spent a two hundred bucks was A1 (OK - B1).
I have seen loads on Trademe recently (one on at the mo for $2400 - bit high that one) but I reckon at the moment around <2k is OK.
Certainly better (for me - comfort, style, speed) than a 250 cruiser.
And 250 sports are 3.5k - too rich for my blood yet.
Good luck finding a decent cheap bike!
