View Full Version : Too cheap bikes for sale

Just a word of warning for KB members.
There are going to be a few chinese bikes being offered at insanely cheap prices over the next few months.
They aren't stolen or in any way dodgy. They just cant ever be registered in godzone.
Traileys and quads are fine but road bikes are a real problem.
These will be bikes bought in by private people who have found the red tape is IMPOSSIBLE to get through. They will not be registered.
Without going too deep in to it if you are offered a brand new bike for like a third of its value - just insist its registered first before you will take delivery

WHazzup? What brand and stuff? and how cheap? Will they be ok for trackdays?

dont get over excited its mostly 50-250cc stuff.
quality varies hugely from place to place.
The 4 stroke 250cc roadies seem to be like xv250's and VT250s and the likes.
If I could get it registered i would concider one -but Id rip it to bits and put it back together to be sure its ok

nope not forgeries just copies-- theyre called like Yeedow or hisong -chinease names -not yamaha etc

So why can't they be registered? Is it red tape or lack of safety?

Its a whole heap of things.
1) none of the lights meet international standards.
2) none of the welding of frames etc has a statement of compliance from the factory--In other words they could be soldered together for all we know.
3) brakes arent certified to international standards
construction of other components -possibly crutial to safety again isnt certified.
Its another case of -they might be safe but comeon prove it. and the factories arent willing to do it for a tiny country like godzone

Speak of the devil...there are a couple on Trademe that seem a little too good to be true, overseas listings of course, with wire transfer payments required.

There was a nice CBR900 which has been removed (was asking $4400), and now a 2002 MV Agusta for $7000. May or may not be NZD prices but the overseas location is a worry. Very sharp looking bikes though!
