<sarcasm>
and of course there is no correlation whatsoever with light sentences handed to murderers
</sarcasm>
IMO light sentences to murderers diminishes the value of human life in the society.

I blame the cheap price of bullets, now poor people with poorer brains can afford to shoot.

What does wealth have to do with intelligence?

Smart people are much less likely to commit crime because you could get caught and locked up and have an unpleasant time in prison... hang on a minute... we're in new Zealand.... sorry, take that back...

Well if the bullets were too expensive only rich people with poor brains would be able to afford to shoot.:yes:

Given the appearance of the 'target' buildings I got the impression that they were not likely to be used by multi-millionaires - ergo the shooters were likely to be of the same ilk.:wait:

Didn't that comedian Chris Tucker say that in one of his skits?

Easy tiger, Scum was making a funny.

But it is a fact that poor stupid people commit more crime than wealthy stupid people. With an inadequate justice system and one of the world’s lowest police / population ratios, naturally crime will increase. With some of the lowest sentencing in the world for violent crime, it's only a matter of time before Labour introduces instant fines for assault or murder. Another great revenue opportunity.

Various crime in my area has shot up too. One of my neighbours wants to introduce a Spook Watch where we have group's mobile numbers and text "ALERT" when "people" are acting suspiciously in our area. I think it's a great idea.

You might be onto something there!

Any demerit points attached as well?

Of course. Over 100 points and you loose your firearms license.

I tried to drive by shooting - trying to keep the accelerator pressed requires some kinda Uzi thang and the ricochets can get dangerously close to yer ba's.

I've since decided to drive by feet and hands - safer.

Call me a cynic but on the face of it, I'd say gang related shootings. If not then has it got that bad that there are carloads of scum just driving around randomly shooting at people. It's likely that they shot at the wrong house, (let's face it these people are probably not all that bright) so gang related - most likely.

Well well - now the facts emerge...

http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3817284a11,00.html

Mr Lafaiki, 44, has a 23 year old partner. After the shots are fired he grabs an 'ornamental' samurai sword and chases after the attackers (thinks - who the heck has a functional sword at hand and why didn't he look after his shot partner? Perhaps thats why she is 23, all his previous partners bled to death)

Mr Lafaiki continues...."I'm not scared –I've been shot before." (thinks - un huh) "I'm pretty irritated. This was a cowardly thing to do. What happened to fronting up and to talk about it?" (thinks - well the sword would put casual called off methinks) He said he had gang connections in the past ...

Ah.....

What about the missus?

Ms Paniora said she asked her partner if he knew why his house was targeted but he wouldn't say. "He won't tell me, and I'd rather not know."

Hmmm.....

Some days I think I live on a different planet

No you dont ,,if you do I share that same planet ... I love the thugs reply ,,,I ve been shot before ... ( Ummm am I suposed to be impressed/scared /in awe ?)

The ploblen stems from the reforms of the eightys ,and borrowing money from the IMF ... now NZ has a large underclass of ,,under educated ,,,( people) with a tendency towards violence...

can be fixed bt education, giving the person a sence of self worth . With a BIG /heavy boot up bum if the lazy sh%& backtracks

And a cultural move away from the getting wasted in the weekend mentality ,,,
