I can't believe you racing fans haven't been raving about this last week. I'm talking about the new God of cornering at the MotoGP. I was watching the highlights on TV1 yesterday and couldn't believe what I saw as Melandri came around the last corner seconds before he wins. It wasn't the shear speed as he came around the bend that blew me away, it wasn't the awesome clouds of smokin rubber coming off both tyres IN THE WET, it wasn't that he was still well leaned over. No, No this man set a new standard. I had to replay the tape half a dozen times to take it in. He was riding one handed all the way round the bend! What the ... his left arm raised in victory to the crowd (one finger up as in; I'm coming in number one).
Sorry I can't attach any picture. It would make an amazing poster. Most impression shot from racing I've seen.
Buy that man a beer someone. I have a new racing idol to replace that Rosie bloke.

No one seems to be interested in getting sideways here,it's always been my biggest thrill.Wheelstands and stoppies,it's all they can do.

Apologies this is a crap way to do it but it's all I can manage. Atleast it gives an ideal of what he was doing but you wont appreciate the tyre smoking and that he is moving more sideways than forward. Cheers to MattRSK for finding a clear pic. of the same guy at it again.

I can just imagine it, awesome stuff. Getting it on bittorrent at the moment so I will be able to see the race soon.

Ok. My bad, I did have a look first under racing. So what, it deserves more mention.

It was great. Brilliant in fact.

If you see the footage about Gary McCoy in the movie "Faster" this ain't unique and Milandri wasn't first.

Mind you that one-handed flourish was a show stopper :first:

Sort of puts the efforts of the "fast" guys on KB into some sort of perspective:scooter:

I meant the slide Melandri did was a damn good effort.

I think it qualifies for a thread of its own

Milandre is my new God!!! Loved that bit for sure but was it wet? He's the man! Rossi pfft.... He doesn't even back it into turns anymore.. So much for my biggest hero.

I am, I am!!! Though I've got no or very miniscuel skill in this department, it's one of the things that excites me the most and one of the skills I would really like to get good at..

Here is a screenie of the moment. If someone could be naffed it'd be easy enough to grab some frames and turn them into an animated gif.

I think Garry McCoy has been the most spectacular slider of recent years. That one was good but he was the master.

Sorry MR, but I'm not sure which season you've been watching but Rossi gets it sideway lots.

Here's the first example I could think of. Last lap at Catalunya. Didn't wait til the last corner either, this was closer to the start of the last lap.

Not taking away from Melandri's sweet display, just making sure credit where credit is due.

Nah. He spent too much time on his arse. A master would entail being able to do it without falling off all the time and ruining your career.

Yeah,I was really impressed with those slides of Rossi, smoking it sideways on the last lap.Just goes to show how much power those bikes have really got - do they have a switch to turn the traction control off....or is that just a myth?

yeah it is switchable, so they can use it for wet tracks, when their tyre are going off etc...also they have different fuel maps and they can choose which one to use, like choosing a more conservative fuel map if their fuel level is a concern

watching that slide had me squeeling like an excited school girl haha. I couldnt figure why his tyres were smoking so much and he was celebrating early then I realised he was on a 200kmh corner, not bad at all. for some reason the 250 will just not slide like that...

I think it might have something to do with the 900s having about 260 horses and weighing maybe 150kgs ( all from memory, I'm at work).

I will need to decided soon if I really will go ahead and sell the R6 right now. It's the most perfect bike for me but I can't have best of all worlds from just one bike... ATM I am not taking too many chances but to get that good, I will have to.. Can't have the best of all worlds with just one bike and I can't afford 2.
