Well for a start riding down the coast from CHCH would be boring and heaps of traffic. Inland through Geraldine, Fairly, Tekapo is fun. Long stretch of straighties from Tekapo to Omarama, but Lindis Pass (?) through to Tarras is fun. Tarras to Cromwell, Clyde, Alexandra is fast, not sure about the road south of there but assume it would be a bit boring. Jantar or any of the Dunners KB'ers could help there.
Where you doing CHCH to Invergiggle in one day?

From Alexandra head south via Roxburgh to Beaumont, turn right and follow the Clutha River to Clydevale, then south to the Riviera of the South (aka Balclutha). Watch out for the cops here, there is one local cop who is more likely to shout you a beer than to give a ticket. Then take the Scenic Southern Route through the Catlins to Invercargill.
The only straight sections of road are through Alexandra, approaching Roxburgh, and a section about 4km long through Ettrick.
I can assure you that this route is far from boring. :ride:
If you come through on one of my day's off I'll ride through to Balclutha with you.

Fark you spotted that quick J.
Reckon on the way back, eading to the west coast, you'll want to come up through Kingston, Queenstown, Crown Range (yummy), Wanaka, Haast (W-Haast bloody brilliant), Greymouth, Buller Gorge, Nelson, Queen Charlotte Drive, Picton, Home.
Can I come? :)
